      Don't wanna LD anymore.. :(

Ok, being a bit dramatic, but I just recently woke up from a nightmare. And you know how nightmares are, they're just filled with that crippling irrational fear. That's how this one was.

It all started with me trying out a new technique tonight to gain lucidity. I wrote down the part from the HILD technique that goes like:

"Knowledge doesn’t matter right now. It does when I’m dreaming and when I’m fully awake. However, all that matters right now is my goal to have long, vivid, highly lucid, realistic lucid dreams with full control every night with complete recall of the dreams every morning upon awakening. "

over and over again in a notebook. I wrote it down 6 times, I think, until my hand hurt.

This worked too well!! I start to sleep, and automatically become lucid, no buffer zone, just right from wakefulness to the lucidity. I could still hear the outside street noises, but I was floating above my bed. I hear a man call my name to the right, and this is where the crippling irrational fear begins. I start to rub my hands together to keep the dream together. This works, but the dream is sooo slow. The air is like water. I get one rub in, and try going to my door, to change the dream scene, but I'm too slow. I then wake up, just filled with that fear.

I start hating the whole fact of LD's, and myself for writing down all that stuff to trigger this. I'm so dreadfully scared to LD now. All of my previous LD's have been wonderful amazing experiences.

Have you guys gotten LD nightmares, and overcome them? It's so ridiculous that those 3 seconds of fear in the dream, and 10 minutes of lying in bed under the covers being scared just killed all my will to continue this. I don't ever wanna feel that fear again.

Nightmares are indeed a terrifying experience and I can see how they could seem even more so while lucid. But don't you dwell on that feeling, it won't bring to any good.
Any fear can be overcome by self-reflection, especially done after encountering such an "event".
Keep in mind, dreams can't hurt you, they're part of your own mind and they can neither cause you pain or harm you in any other way.

There's nothing to fear except fear itself. - A good saying and applies here well.
Since you've had other great lucid dreams that weren't full of fear then look back to them. Think about all the great things that can be done in lucid dreams and about the wonders of dreams all together. Giving it some thought and not dwelling on the fear, I'm sure, will bring you to the conclusion that there's much more potential for good than evil in dreams.

You are the master of your dreams and you like no one else can change them in any way you want. Remember that.

If I were you, I'd put this experience behind you. A couple of bad experiences shouldn't deter you from such a beautiful time. Everyone has a nightmare once in awhile, and it only means that you are more succeptable to them than some of us. I don't think it is the LD thing that is making your nightmares so bad....I mean, it could be a small factor, but the attitudes and emotions that play out in your everyday life are the things that will really determine your dreams. Don't be defeated. You will get it sooner or later, and giving up is really not the answer.

OK...I may only be a begginner but...when i'm in nightmares,i try to do these three things :

      1) point the palms of your hands towards the monster/zombie/demon in a room ect...Then..shout 'DISAPPEAR!' 9 times out of ten it will work! (that's for me...)

      2) I get mad Easily...so when a vampire bites me i'm not too happy about it I just get ready to fight, and the next thing you know, your busting out some crazy kung-fu action!

      3) I got really pissed in one dream...so..what did i do? the dream started to go scary! i was somewhat scared, but i was more pissed off...I shouted 'ROCKET LAUNCHER!' and guess what appeared in my hands . Then..once you have the rocket launcher...stop thinking real life, and start thinking play-station

      EDIT: These three things.

SubAudible, these high caliber nightmares are a thing that everyone experiences at least once in their life, hell, I know I have had a few. One way to combat that problem is to think of the nightmares as just another thing, just another hurdle to the goal of Lucidity.

I know how horrible this feels and the only way to get rid of it is to do what you don’t want I’m sorry to say. By working on your Lucidity skills, you minimize the risk of having that fear.

      I hope this helped.

Yes, absolutely. Had them. Got over them.

      And never had them again!

You'll discover that these experiences are motivated by curiosity and that there are few things so innocently powerful. Being conscious of this will remove any manifestations of danger motivated by fear or guilt.

I highly doubt you will encounter any dangerous situations after that, but, if you do, you'll already have the right tools and ability to face them.

Another thing that can be useful for any lucid dreamer is to go back and review past dreams. For an LDer who's not very experienced, it can help them recognize patterns that will help them become lucid later on, recognizing "I've done this before."

Af for the nightmare, I would go back and look at what happened during it, fixing the details firmly in your memory. Then, try to come up with a plan of action for what you would do if you encountered these problems again. Play the scenario out in your mind, especially before you go back to bed. I've done this before and I've found that for the most part the nightmare doesn't come back and there's nothing to worry about.

It's not a problem to take some time off from LDing, espeically after an event like that, but don't let it scare you away entirely. You are able to control what happens, so the biggest thing is just to be prepared.
