      Problem with Lucid Dreaming

This may have been addressed in other boards so sorry if I'm rehashing old topics but here it goes.

Let me make it very clear I've never tried to induce lucid dreaming, infact I've only just learned about it as a result of some google search on some strange dreams I've had.

For the past 3 months I've had maybe six lucid dreams, where in the dream I knew I was dreaming, the dreams are realistic but I have no control. I find myself yelling at myself to wake up or that this is just a dream only to have the dream simply change scenes but it always ends up with me having a series of false wake ups where I know I'm still dreaming yet I keep waking up again and again realizing that I didn't wake at all just started a new dream scene.

My problem is that the dream of awaking within a dream again and again invokes a serious terror in me that I start to think I may never really wake up. and the images grow increasingly strange not like a nightmare more like just this inner feeling of dread. When I finally do wake it takes me several minutes to come to really believe that I'm awake which is a little frighening.

Does anyone know how to stop lucid dreams, because when I dream normally I have little recall which I' d prefer. the Lucid dreams are so vivid that they linger in my mind for days, like tonight its 2am and I had a really long lucid dream and now I can't seem to will myself back to sleep.

      Thanks for listining

Just tell yourself it's a dream and know you can do anything you want, and try to enjoy the experience instead of dread it.

I've tried and for some brief moments its interesting its the false wakings that cause the most alarm.

maybe its time for sleeping pills.

so,you have some problems with fals awakenings...
next time when you have a lucid dream and you want it to end, just go to sleep in your dream.
it said for that to help...
but I still dont get why you would like to stop lucid dreaming.

For the most part it does sound like a lack of control, as you've said. An important thing to remember is that when you realize that you are dreaming, you are in charge. If you want, just freeze everything until you can figure out what you want to do. What'd I'd advise, though, is formulate a plan when you are awake for what you will do when you become lucid. Decide ahead of time so that you're prepared and you can act rather than have the time to become afraid of what might happen. Loose thoughts and fears tend to grow if they're not kept in check.

As for waking up from a lucid dream, you could also try laying down in the same position you're sleeping in and really focus on the feeling of that body. Feel yourself gradually coming awake, breathing heavier. Then open your eyes. Also, do a reality check when you wake up, such as plugging your nose and trying to breathe (if you can, you're still dreaming) to see whether or not you are still dreaming. If you are, just repeat the process until you do wake up.

But come up with a plan ahead of time of what you intend to do and stick to it. Put it into place as soon as you become lucid. And don't let these past experiences forever taint what could be a great experience for you! Give it another shot and know that you can in fact control what happens. Just be confident in that.

This is great advice. Write an outline of what you will do when you LD and then do it, or at least, have a strong intention to do so. I mean, it's your dream, right? So, do what you want! Anyway, I hope that your problem lessens soon. Good luck with everything.

      Thanks for the advice. everyone.

just to clarify the reason I wanted to stop was there was more terror than entertainment in those dreams which lingered into my daily life. Its easy to advise control and a much different thing to be able to do it , but I will try to keep those things in mind. I'd rather not have them but since they seem to come naturally I'll heed your advice.
