      Worst experience of my life...

      Hi there fellow dreamers,

This night I had one of the strangest experiences in my life. I'm still in kind of a chock, and still I doubt that I am really awake.
I just ended a dry spell thats been going on for almost half a year (because of stress, school, work and lack of ambition to dream). Yesterday was the first day of my summer vacation and I was really focused to finally go lucid again.

Late at night I went out for a walk, and when I got home I took 300 mg of vitamin b6 and went straight to bed. I don't usually use b6 to dream, but this night I was urgent to end the dry spell. I could feel myself start to dream only minutes after I turned the lights off.

      Now to the scary part:
In the middle of the night I thought I woke up because I heard a sound outside my door. I went up from bed to check, completely sure I was awake, and saw a monkey /alligator/ monster outside. Normally, I would have realized monkey-monsters dont exist in real life, and awoken myself from the dream, but this time the dream was so detailed and "real" I could not beleive it. After a while of panicking, i somehow managed to go lucid and wake myself. I found myself in bed, the world as detailed and real as ever, and went up.

But I was still in the dream! And now, strange people started to appear all around me. From now on, I was lucid all the time. The dream was very frightening and I was trying to wake myself . But every time instead of waking up, I had a false awakening and found myself in bed again.

This very scary man kept reappearing in every layer of the dream as well, he had a yellow hooded shirt, no hair (a bit like a buddhist monk) and fang-like teeth. He kept telling me in every dream layer, that I would never wake up again since I had died in my sleep. after maybe the 5-6th false awakening, I started to beleive him.

Note that this is both the most layered and detailed dream I have ever had. The details were what scared me the most, every fabric, every smell, everything looked and felt exactly as it did in "real" life. I could read a newspaper, every word of it. I found no pleasure in flying even though I could, since it made me feel like a ghost, or "un real" compared to the world around me. I felt as if I had left my body.

The whole dream was dark and awful. I really felt as if I had died. It was as if I was looking at the "real" world from the dream world, through a shaded glass or something. All I wanted to do was to wake up. But I couldn't!! And the creepy monk was there almost all the time, telling me I had died in my sleep.

I bet most of you dreamers at DV are familiar to the film "Waking Life". This dream had very much in common with it, exept it lacked dialouges and was a lot darker and scarier. While dreaming, I remembered what one of the charachters from the film had said, that you could always wake up if you just concentrated on it. So I concentrated and concentrated, and for the 18-20th time I "woke up".
This time I was so releived when I awoke. I was sure I had finally beat the dream. i went up from bed, upstairs to the kitchen. But when I got there I realized the balcony was gone, and instead of it there was a graveyard. My mom and sister sat on a bench there crying, saying that I had died. I tried to make contact with them, but they couldnt hear me or see me.

I was dead, I was a ghost stuck in a parallell universe, and now I was sure of it. When I came to that realization, I woke up. For real ( i think!).

Sweating, in the middle of the night and scared to death, I didnt even dare to turn the lights on. I didn't know If I was alive or dead for sure. I went back to sleep again and had some more "normal" dreams after that, but the dream still clinged to me.

In the morning I tried to explain it to my mom, I was exhausted and releived and happy to be alive, but she didn't understand anything. She even asked me, half-seriously, if i was on drugs!

So now I ask you guys, what do these weird, epic dreams mean? It feels as if I'll never experience anything remotely like this in my life again. It was so BIG. It was so REAL.
      And so unexplainable.
Anyone who has had a similar dream? I'm dying for explainations! Why couldn't I wake up? Am I dead? Who was that fanged monk?

It means that you shouldn't pop B6 without thinking about the consequences....

in my experiences b6 induced lucid's are often dark, scary and as real as life. so next time your thinking about making your dreams a little more vivid think about the side effects

another thing you could/ should have done is a nose reality check, that would have showed you every false awakening wasn't reality before you pulled the covers off your face.

the man with fangs was just a part of your nightmare, you were trying to find a reason why you were trapped in this state so your mind made one, the evil figure that told you that you were dead.

anyway I too have had dreams where the FAs just keep coming (like 15 in a row is my top) what you have to remember is that your the supreme being of your dream, without you everything you see, hear, touch, and smell wouldn't and couldn't exist. realize that, and you'll realize that there's nothing to fear (I know its pretty hard to realize that there's nothing to fear when you have demons breathing in your face but theres a way to fix that too) next time you have a nightmare LD and you find yourself facing your version of the embodiment of evil itself don't give in to it, think about the facts:

this is your lucid dream that you've worked your ass off to get.
He's not real no matter what your senses are telling you,
and lastly your God in this realm of consciousness.

Once you think about that you'll see that this figure your mind has created is taking away from all that you've worked so hard to attain, get angry at it, make your adrenalin pump into your false bodies veins and yell at the mother ***ker that he isn't real and he should just give up because your not giving in. Soon you'll notice the dream bending around you, you'll feel more powerful than you ever have in your entire life. with this new found strength just kill it in whatever fashion you desire, with a fireball, a bowling ball, a fuzzy bunny, or maybe just flick it with your pinkie. It wont stand a chance
this method of killing lucid nightmares has helped me to avoid many situations that could have turned into scarring memories, I'm sure it'll work for you too

anyway I hope this experience wont stop you from trying to have more LDs, what you experienced was a very rare occurrence, don't let it get you down

      hope that helped.
      .

i dunno if this helps, but I came across this site while I was pregnant becuase I suddenly started getting a bunch of wierd dreams - and alot more nightmares than usual. After searching around I realized that my prenatal vitamins have alot of B6 and I was taking them twice a day. All the pregnaancy articles say that nightmares during pregnancy are common do to "mothering anxiety" In my case I was very hapy to be pregnant so I always attributed the nightmares with the B6. Since I stopped taking it my dreams have been alot nicer.

I agree with BillyBob_001, lay off the B6 for awhile, but definatley don't give up lucid dreaming.

Definitely the b-6. It's known to cause cracked-out dreams like that. ...My journal is full of them.

      Thanks for your reply !
Yep, I guess I should (and I will!) think back on this dream before i drop the same amount of b6 again... It will probably keep me away from it for quite a while!

I think I could have handled the situation with the false awakenings better if I was used to them, but since i hadn't had a real LD in almost half a year I guess my brain was confused of something. I will definetly start doing reality checks more often too.

Your thoughts about the monk-figure were very interesting. I hope I won't meet him again.. although it would be kind of nice to get a chance to throw fireballs at him

But how can you carry on having b6-dreams so often? My mind is still a bit fuzzy after last nights dream!

Oh yeah... familiar feeling... my last lucid was, too, downright terrible. I had over 20 false awakenings and I was scared to death. The fact that you know that you're dreaming and you can't wake up... it's horrible. My dream was ... as Douglas Quaid ("Total Recall") would say - a real "mind f*ck". There was this skeleton (probably Death) inside me and he started controlling my dream and he actually started to rip his way out of me... It all happened a while ago so I have (luckilly) already forgotten most details about it. But I can still clearly recall the feeling I had while I was standing in the middle of my room, covered in cold sweat... shaking all over, but perfectly sure that at least it's all over... and then feeling a bony finger slowly making its way through my rib cage. When I finally woke up, I was a train wreck. Totally in panic, but unable to speak... not knowing what further horrors to expect.

Yeah... crap happens Lucid dreaming isn't all fun and games... It's serious stuff... serious stuff.

Wow hearing your experience kind of scares me...I am desperately trying to get a lucid dream but after hearing about people's 'false awakenings' I'm not sure anymore. For me, when I have my very low-intensity lucid dreams, when I have a false awakening I dont find myself in my bed, it's just another scene I guess. But always the same thing happens, I'm telling someone my dream I just had (the last scene) therefore forgetting that I am in fact still dreaming.
I heard that vitamin b6 gets you sound sleep and can even prevent nightmares. Well I'm not sure the right amount you're supposed to take, I guess you took too much, and that might be dangerous. Or maybe its because you arent used to it.

I think you might be confusing B6 with melatonin, which is often taken with B6. B6 will definitely not help you sleep better, and actually stands a better chance of waking you up throughout the night. (in my own experience) Melatonin on the other hand helps to force your normal sleep cycles and gives you a deeper, more complete rest.
Taking B6 and melatonin together does the combined acts of giving you your deep, completely sleep, physically, while allowing your mind to race with B6 detail and intensity without having to worry too much about waking up.

I don't think you have to be scared, this is the first "bad" lucid dream I've ever had. Usually lucid dreams are wonderful, and annoying false awakenings like these are rare.
i think the reason this dream turned out the way it did was I had such a big "gap" in dream activity. I used to be lucid at least a couple of times a week, then barely dreamt at all for a few months, and then this came as a shock.

You're just a small step from getting lucid, you can't stop trying now! I had those low-intensity LD's too for a few weeks before I got my first "real" LD. Keep it up and don't let my freaky dreams stop you

      Woah.
Sounds almost exactly like the dream I had. I never really thought LD's could be awful! On the contrary, becoming lucid in a nightmare always helps me out of it. But this was so much worse than any nightmare I've ever had.
Is there even a name for bad LD's? 20 FA's in a row is not a pleasant experience!

Damn, if you were 100% confident wouldn't it be so much better to live a life free of the fear of uncertainty that comes with death? But thats off topic, I just don't get why you would kill yourself. Message me if you must

I take 200mg of b-6 on lucid nights, so far (knock on wood) although the dreams are vivid, they are not nightmares and crazy like. I think my body has really adjusted to it.

      I STAND UP FOR B-6

yea actualy I read that the body can take 200 mg just fine (except certain people for some reason) but 300-500 mg is too much and that can a little dangerous. Too much b6 I read can damage the nerves.
But vitamin b6 in itself and not in excess is good and u need it for your body and it actualy helps with recall. So definately dont avoid taking it.

Hmmm... Aside from the horror element, that dream sounds awesome! I think the best way to beat a nightmare like that might be to start singing your favorite song and imagine the dream characters singing along with you. I know that sounds very Sesame Street, but it would probably work. Instead of trying to wake yourself up, which I know first hand can be extremely difficult sometimes, try turning the dream into a happy event. Force yourself to keep singing your favorite song with strong focus on how good the song sounds while watching everything in the dream turn happy. Will happiness all over the environment. Maybe you should try getting the band that sings the song to sing it live in front of you, or at least hear the real version of the song in your dream. Anything that changes your thoughts will change the dream scenery. A dream is only what you are thinking about during a dream phase of sleep.

Although I am an atheist, I once in a while have nightmares about demons and Satan. In those dreams, I hold up a cross and will the power of Jesus against the evil forces. Due to my history of being a devout Christian, that technique has always turned nightmares into peaceful dreams immediately. My memories of feeling in touch with Jesus are still there for me to use to end a nightmare. You might want to try something like that. You could use some supernatural dream world power to smush the evil around you.

Also, the B6 plan might not be a good one. I had serious anxiety problems a while back from taking mega-supplements of B vitamins. I don't recommend them.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

yea actualy when I read your dream (at night) I was pretty stunned at such an experience but now I think it sounds pretty cool. I mean sure the first night is dreadful, but doesnt after a while its pretty amazing. You can write a story on that or somethin. And I think you can be determined to change a nightmare in the future and learn from such an experience. You can train your mind to change any unpleasant conditions.

And yea dont megadose on b6 but the right amount is good.

actually you have to have at least *mg to be at risk for nerve damage (if you only take it once every other day or so) the FDA has limited it to *mg a day to be the top you should ever take (that's a very dangerous amount)

yes well, I said the FDA limited it to that, but I was wrong, the FDA apparently limited it to 100mg a day (if taken every single day, although if you stop the symptoms go away if your taking more than 100mg) and I'm still searching for their toxic limit. I'll post here when i find it

PS: here's where i got that from:

Do you by any chance smoke pot? It can have that effect, and even make it impossible to have lucid dreams. I have to be six weeks past a binge to have lucid dreams that last more than a few seconds. Pot also makes it where I usually can't even recall my dreams.
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?
