      Inducing infinite pain

Many people have noticed that in a lucid dream your senses (especially sight) seem to be increased, or at least have the potential. I'm sure a lot of people here have noticed that you can make everything in your field of vision very vivid, detailed, and focused.

Your body in waking life can't do this, so we do it in dreams: the sight threshold is passed. Now imagine if you could pass the pain threshold in your dream body. Bodies can only feel a certain amount of pain before you pass out, but in a dream you could continue to increase the feeling, probably forever, and stay aware.

Now, this experience would be absolutely horrible, but I am incredibly curious as to what this feels like. Is anyone else tempted to try this, or has anyone ever felt an impossible amount of dream-pain before?

Well, actually what we have here is an instance of a absolutely horrible imagination.

Now, if we really wanted 'wishes to come true' we could approach pleasure instead of pain.

And as a matter of fact, it has been a very common pursuit in the Spiritual Communtity -- the Quest for Absolute Bliss is almost as common as the pursuit for Liberation and Enlightenment.

And this is where it gets interesting for those Lucid Dreamers who think they can do anything after a Weekend Seminar. Very few people, practicing the most intricate methods of autosuggestion and trance induction are able to get a sustainable or repeatable access to Ecstatic Experience. But there are some. But not as many as we would suppose if it were at all easy.

But maybe you will have more luck with pain.

Oh, try plunging a knife into your knee cap... I can guess that would hurt a lot.

I've never thought of that before, that's a really good question...I'm not really tempted to try it though, heh.

Damnit Leo, you got me. I guess I was just thinking about pain because I was just reading a thread about death in dreams, and it made me think about pain in dreams. I would much rather see how much pleasure it is possible to feel, but my original thought was to try it in dreams because there is no threat (or relief, you might say) of passing out when it becomes unbearable. Does the body do the same for pleasure? I've never heard of such a thing.

I think pain would be an interesting persuit. The only problem i can think of is the waking results. I know that some people feel the pain from their dreams as they wake up, and even for a little bit while they are awake. If one were to cause such immense pain to themselves, it would be ideal to make sure the pain has subsided before they allow themselves to awaken, which wouldn't be easy considering anything that was taken to such an extreme could likely cause an awakening anyway.

Having said that, i'd still be tempted to give it a go. I'm not adept enough at lucid dreaming by any stretch though.... unfortunately (???)

My dreamworld refuses to let me hurt myself, or anyone else, so I guess I'd have better luck trying the absolute bliss one!

Thats really interesting, especially since the human body creates natural morphine to counter ones pain, but when in a dream would your body do the same? It does with adrenaline when one is experiencing a nightmare so it would make sence.

also, how would it be like to have a 360 degree view?
my brains are once again commencing an all out idea attack on me now.

That's really strange that you talked about 360 vision, because I was going to mention that in my first post, but it slipped my mind I guess.

Well put! I think the whole thing may be some sort of self discovery adventure... or it will just hurt like hell. Ever cut your finger off and eaten it? I'm not a doctor, but I think that's probably not a good feeling.

Im known for stealing ideas .

But i'll rather stick with inducing infinite joy .
I think you would not be alble to do it, becouse lets face it, infinite pain woudnt be infinite pain if we could stand it.
