I almost had my first intended lucid dream last night! The reason why I didn't have one I think was rather stupid, anyway here it is:

I was in a dream, and I got the point where I thought "Hey, I might be dreaming! I'll check my reality!", and so I did. I looked briefly at my hands, and they were perfectly normal, and I thought to myself, "Yeah, I know (duh) it's real...whatever..". Then I went back to what I was doing before...

I woke up later on. I was disappointed.

How!? Lol why didn't it work?

Actually I think it's because that's the exact attitude to rc's I have in reality, so therefore I'd do it in a dream like that. Damn, I guess I'll have to think a little more in future...

Instead of looking at your hands, try to stick your finger through your hand. Or read some text. Do a check that can ensure you whether you are or arn't dreaming.

I really recommend looking at a clock or watch, or reading some text. It's good to use a range of checks, but I find that examining numbers/writing is probably most likely to work in a dream.

Yeah cool, has anyone actually had a similar experience?

I think I did a bad rc because that's how I always practice-check; with that attitude and thought not much will change for me in a dream!

So yeah thanks for the tips, I may need some variety.

Yep. First lucid experiences are always a little strange...
