what is the method that you all use to actually go into a lucid dream?

do you try to lucid dream as you are falling asleep? or fall into lucidity while dreaming?

i was just wondering what the most effective method was. i can never initiate lucid dreams while i am still awake. every lucid dream i've had happens while i'm in a really peculiar dream and i recognize that i'm only dreaming.

There isn't a better method, only are methods that are suitable for you and your sleepcycle and lifestyle , so it's really up to you , I prefer doing WBTB (that means waking up 5hours after you've slept and I have time for that) whereas I do alot of reality checks when Im not asleep so most of the time when I dream I do them, which means I can fall into lucidity while Im dreaming (and that happens most of the time). That would be DILD and thats great if you train yourself into doing RC's and recognizing the different traits of dreams you have eveyr night. Though I would say that WBTB would increase your chances of going lucid because you wake up during REM period which means when you sleep your going straight into dreaming.
