      Talking Skeptic No Longer

I ran into the topic of Lucid Dreams while reading up the technical specs on a homemade LD inducing aid device . TBH I was very skeptical of the whole LD topic but being an explorer @ heart (truly I was born 400 yrs too late!)I decided to explore further. And so glad I did. The research into the subject is quite solid and not based on new age poppycock as I originally believed. So armed with the knowledge of how to induce and control I decided to go for a test run.

      My 1st Lucid Dream

I awoke several times throught the night and conducted reality checks and was dissapointed several times to discover I was awake. On my 5th awakening I experienced a false awakening and realized it was so because of equiptment failure during my reality check. I had been using my alarm clock for reality checks. My alarm clock has a very bright blue display that lights up @ the touch of a button . Said clock would not light, it was then I realized I was dreaming and became Lucid. Unfortunately I was so excited @ this realization, I awoke as I a attemted to rise from my dream bed. The whole Ld experience lasted perhaps 30 seconds.

      My 2nd Lucid Dream

The night following my first experience I convinced myself I could remain calm enough to prolong the experience. Againg I awakened several times before I actually entered the Lucid state. I also experienced several dreams in which I did not become Lucid. This false awakening I did not reach for my clock as i done the previous times but actually reached for my bedside lamp so I could jot down the dream i just had and was surprised to discover my lamp would not turn on...dead giveaway. I controlled my excitement through breathing and got up from my bed knowing full well I could remain in control and master this dream. The bed sheeets slid off me as I stood in the middle of the room contemplating my next move. I decided to go for broke and leapt straight up and right through the ceiling ghosting right through( amazing!). as I drifted through my apartment's attic, my experience was spoiled by a sence of fear of an antagonistic presence I somehow simply knew was present in this attic. I did not see my antagonist but Knew it was a dead woman. Decayed and reanimated and with nothing in her heart but hatred for me. I recalled the dream control techinques and willed myself to fly horizontally like a shot and ghosted right through the wall and into the street about, oh mebbe 50 feet in the air. It was glorious! My antagonist far behind and forgotten. I dimly remember seeing perhaps one more person in the distance also flying. On the ground I remember one woman pointing @ me open mouthed incredulity and awe written on her face. I couldn't help but wonder what she would make of this naked flying man that had come from nowhere. I chukled @ the thought. Right. so across the street moving like I got a rocket booster strapped to my butt and into the next block, much to my chagrin I find myself losing altitude. I am going down and doing my best impression of Ralph Hinkley I slam into the asphalt (ouch) and wake from my LD.

I notice the recurring equipment failure in my Ld's anyone else experience this? Anyone actually achieve complete mastery over their LD's? I have so many questions.

      Any comments would be appreciated.

Yeah I read in a book I had that equipment failure is common. I tested out trying to change the lighting of your dream, because the book said you couldn't. I pulled a light bulb string and I heard a short fizzle and that was it.

The equipment failure is actually quite common. It's happened to me. Especially when I was facing off against the zombies and my gun stopped working.

Equipment failure can be a common dream sign, but isn't fool-proof. I'd combine that with another reality check, just in case it doesn't work.

However, there was one time when I was here on DV and was posting something about light-switches not always working in dreams. That night I was dreaming that I was in a room and was trying to turn the light on, but it just wouldn't work. I was becoming more frustrated and was about to just give up, but then I remembered that I had just been discussing this very issue that same day! Too bad I couldn't keep lucidity on that one.

The same thing happened to me. The thing with the light switches.

Great job on handling your dream fears. That's an excellent start to your LDing career.

"Believe it or not I'm walking on air... I never thought I could feel so free..ee.ee. ... Flying away on a wing and a prayer... Who could it be... Believe it or not it's just me..."

Haha, I remember watching and enjoying that dumb show.

As others have said, equipment failure and anomalies are common in the dream realm. As far as complete control goes: I doubt any one ever has or ever will achieve "complete" dream control. But, many people have achieved a very high level of control.

Keep in mind, however, that control varies from dreamer to dreamer and dream to dream.

I wonder why equipment would fail in dreams? If you in your dream, knew that this was "real life" then why wouldn't it work? Congrats on both your lucids. I have been trying for a month and haven't suceeded, your lucky.

Infinitly greater than you are... Damn that missing E.
