      Exclamation Stream of Consciousness

Before I go into the dream I'll give a very brief (and hopefully not boring)dream history.

Ive been flying in my dreams since I was 4 or 5.

Ive always had very vivid, color dreams and great dream recall even before I knew what that was. I can still remember my first flying dream like it was yesterday. You've probably guessed Superman has been an icon to me since I could walk (and immediately wanted to leave the ground)

I've survived tornados, fires, nuclear blasts, earthquakes, plane/car crashes, being shot, etc. Just about every disaster you can think of- Im never hurt and very rarely scared. That being said, a vast majority of my dreams are happy and not nightmares. Even the disaster dreams hold a sense of calm. I often find myself beginning to turn away or run, only to hear myself say "no" and turn back to face it.

A LOT of my dreams connect. Im not fully sure what this means, but I can look in the distance and see places I have dreamed about before. Its a vast, open expanse of mountains and forests, lakes and rivers, oceans and fields. Its like most of my dream world is one enormous, interconnecting landscape. And its really a beautiful place.

Ive had a couple of dreams come true. I dont say that lightly. I dream constantly so the law of averages says some of them will in a loose sense. And I know our minds are built to make connections, its how we learn, but the two I speak of were beyond the pale. Warnings of future events I wish I had listened to more closely, but how are you supposed to know? Its a dream, right? Since the last one Im trying to pay more attention. Always with a grain of salt, but it cant hurt.

Within the last 10 or 15 years Ive had Lucid Dreams (that I remember) sporadically. Only a few of them have I been able to control for fleeting moments, but this last one sent me for such a spin that I began researching what Lucid dreams are and how I can better control and induce them. I think sharing with you on this site might help.

      So, on to the dream...

I layed down to sleep after a long talk with my girlfriend on the phone. A very deep conversation I wont go into, but I do know I was feeling particularly grounded at the time- hypersensitive and connected to myself and my "reality". Very content. Im sure that has something to do with what followed.

      I never lost my consciousness.

I closed my eyes thinking about what we had talked about and mulling over the conversation. When I opened my eyes a second later I was standing in long a hallway. Like an old hotel with red patterned carpet and beautiful woodwork, ornate light fixtures and doors. Something like out of The Shining, except NOT scary or creepy. I immediately realized I was dreaming. I laughed and looked around to take it all in. I tried to absorb every sensation and highten my awareness and it worked. I was FULLY awake and in a dream. WOW! I did what I always do, I started to fly around a little, but I was in a hallway and limited by the ceiling, so I tried to land. As soon as I looked at the floor I started to float out of control. Sort of like when you see astronauts in the space shuttle, weightless and powerless to my inertia. My feet started to drift over my head. I told myself to concentrate on what I wanted, think about it, and that worked too. I felt myself become heavier and touched down softly on the carpet. I laughed again- this was too %#@* cool! The sensation was unbelievable. I walked down the hallway and sort of went James Bond for a second, ducking around corners and just playing around, trying not to be seen by anyone and just enjoying the vividness of the dream. I jumped into one room full of people and ducked behind a couch. It felt sort of like playing army/spy when I was a kid roaming the neighborhood. They saw me and I jumped back up and laughed. They gave me a weird look like, WTF are you doing? I thought that was pretty funny since I wondered that myself for a second. I walked out and thought, okay, enough of this, I want to go outside so I can really fly. I walked to the next door and willed a staircase to be there when I opened it. It was. An amazing and massive spiral staircase that went up 20 flights or so to the roof. I could see up through the middle and decided to see how fast I could run to the top. I whizzed up the stairs at light speed. So fast it was a blur, yet I experienced it almost in slow motion. Hard to explain. If youve ever been in a car accident you know what I mean. Things happen in a split second, yet you are hyper aware on a timeless level. Also pretty fun. I got to the top, opened the door, ran out onto the roof and took off, straight up like a rocket. I looked down and watched the building get smaller and fade to black along with everything else including the dream and myself in it. I didnt try to hold onto it, I just let it fade.

I felt my consciousness being poured back into my body- reconnecting to my physical self almost (that was an odd and fantastic feeling within itself, not to mention a completely new sensation). I sat up and reached for a drink of water as if no time had passed. WHOA! What the **** just happened?! Ha! I sat there remembering the details and feelings letting it all sink in. I felt incredibly focused and centered.

I have flying dreams all the time, lucid or not, so that was nothing spectacular. Ive also had waking dreams I could control to a limited extent, but NEVER have I gone from awake, to such an amazingly vivid and lucid dream I could control completely and then back to being awake with no break in my awareness/conscious mind. Hours or minutes could have taken place inbetween all of this (I wish now I would have looked at the clock) but I never sensed any lapse. Im going to keep expecting more of these. Im getting better at it. I love it because Ive always dreamed of flying (preferably while awake) but the older I get and the more I practice the thinner the veil between my waking life and my dreams becomes. Its the added level of consciousness and deliberate control that makes it so tangible. Amazing.

I tried to keep that short and to the point, I hope it wasnt boring or old hat for this site. It was a lot of fun for me.

I wondered, too- I find myself teaching others to fly in my dreams. Anyone else have this experience?

I'll be posting more of my past and present dreams as Im able. I hope eventually I can tell you Im lucid dreaming and controlling them at will. Its seems like its just around the corner....

      Wish me luck.

Dude, this sounds like an awesome dream. Personally, i have had no lucid dreams in a while so i have been deprived of this great feeling.

Also, i like how you described your dream history, thats very interesting.

Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?

Man, does anything compare with that feeling? If only everyone could experience that rush at least once. I have to believe the world would be a much cooler place.

      Let's do this every night!

Take a look at WILDing in the tutorial forum. It sounds like that's what you accidentally did.

      Also, great story!
