      scary lucid

i hate being lucid, because every time i think of a scary thought it turns into an image, i keep thinking to myself "no scary thoughts" but its too hard to avoid, does anybody elese here understand me?

That's how my very first lucid ended. I realized I was dreaming, took a friend along flying with me, and thought, This is so cool! Anything I think of will happen! Oh, wow, I'd better not think of anything scary... *cue horror movie monster*

If it's any help... the concept of lucid dreaming has helped me overcome a lot of my fears of the dark and horror movies. I used to hate going to sleep every night and would never sleep in the dark. Now I almost go out of my way to think about scary things, because I've realized that if I DO see a monster under my bed, there's a 99% chance that it's a dream, and that I can control it. The excitement of having another lucid far outweighs the fear of having to deal with something scary. It's actually been quite therapeutic for me.

I hate horror movies and NEVER watch them anymore, and I haven't even had nightmares in a while. You may also want to try planning out what it is that you want to do in your lucids before you have them... having a strict goal seems to take care of thinking about scary things, or giving them importance and therefore "power". Also in the dream control forums, there are a lot of methods to take charge over your dreams, even the scarier aspects.

I agree with what shift said, when I was younger I had.. alot of nightmares because of movies, as stupid as it sounds, it carried out into my late teens, I mean to have a nightmare about a monster coming and eating you or w/e used to just scare me shitless , However I have found that.. if you find yourself in this scenario.. instead of getting scared, or trying to "run" away.. try and recognize.. wait a minute im in a dream, what im seeing doesnt exsist.

I usually then look back or concentrate on the bad image/surroundings.. and honestly they usually just go away, sometimes THEY get scared of me, sometimes I just run over and round house them out into space

The key is remembering its a dream, its no different then a good dream when you see yourself flying.. Your able to manipulate nightmares as well sometimes, and it can actually be a very fun process to sit there at night and literally "conquer" your fears

Hmm, well serial killers and rapists do exist, so I guess that's one thing to keep in mind as that 1% of "this isn't a dream, you ARE about to die.". But I think I'm usually safe in that if it is something form a horror movie near my bed (more specifically, Zelda from Pet Sematary and the girl convulsing during the Exorcism of Emily Rose) that I'm probably in a dream. It still gives me a heart attack when I'm awake and think of them, but at the same time I'm almost exhilarated because it means I may be in a dream!

Yeah same, but now if I see something scary, because I know I'm dreaming I'll simply go up to it and tell it to take a flying...... well, you get the picture. Once you realise it's a Lucid Dream, say to yourself you can control it and it'll go away, because you can.

      Good Luck

This situation could be worse. With sleep deprivation it is indirectly easier to become lucid. Also, when sleep deprived and in a state of lucidity, it is less likely that you will wake up, and, you may be unlikely to voluntarily wake up at will.

Now imagine being chased by a guy with a chainsaw when you are unable to wake up.

Now imagine that he runs out of gas, and stands there looking awkward . All of the sudden your arms turn into chainsaws and you chop his head off. Or something. Then they go back to normal, and you leap into the air and fly away, enjoying yourself immensely

The trick is keeping in mind that you are in charge! I think it'd be cool to not be able to wake up. Then you could do all the lucid experiments and craziness that you wanted, with a reduced risk of waking yourself up!
