When scary things happen in dreams and then you become lucid, it is really healthy to face your fears. Confront the thing that is chasing you or scaring you and it will go away or stop being scary. Sometimes I say outloud "stop being scary," then the dream will take on a much more pleasent, less tense feel.

The best way to get out of the dream is to close your eyes, but this often leads to false awakenings. It is far better to face up to your fears, because nothing in your dreams can really hurt you.
