I Finally Flew in my Dreams!!!!

A few months ago I posted about my first semi-lucid dream, where I was aware of the dream and tried to levitate. After that day I kinda got lazy and stopped keeping a dream journal. I just recently began to do reality checks and stuff and last week, I dreamed of this wonderful and scary adventure that took place in a mansion. In the dream, it was time for bed so I laid down on the floor and went to sleep in the dream. Seconds later I open my eyes and jump off the floor. I bounce from wall to wall, levitating from one spot to another and it was awesome. Last night, I dreamed another adventure but this time, I just randomly went to a window and realized I was dreaming so I jumped out and flew into the sky and then right over the surface of a lake. lol I actually remember me screaming, "WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!!!!!" in the dream. Both times, the dream took over after just a minute or two of flying. I need to know some tips how to gain better control, and keeping the dream from taking over again.

Someone here will give you a better answer than me, but i'll try to give some advise When you first realize that you're dreaming, take a moment and make sure that you now that everything is just your imagination. I lost control in one LD because i didn't realize that the people were just my imagination, i felt guilty and soon after that lost my ability to fly, and the dream ended up taking over. I don't know if you have the same problem, but as i said in the beginning, wait for some more answers Good Luck!

Just keep practicing! One thing to realize is that for many people, the act of flying seems to diminish the vividness and duration of the dream. I've heard it theorized that when you are flying, there are fewer landmarks to anchor your conciousness on and you soon lose concentration. Something that has bothered me for a long time now.... How does your mind know what flying is like?

Possibly your mind compiles it from memories like rollercoasters and swings? Or possibly that's the reason why our dreams disintegrate so often when we begin flying - our mind doesn't know what to do?

Yeah, that fascinates me too. That Van Eeden guy wrote about flying in his lucid dreams, back in 1898 I think. There's probably written records of dreams of flying both lucid and normal dreams throughout history, before people had any way to get off the ground at all. How did the mind come up with this stuff back then?

The subconscious is a lot less grounded in physics, and flying is simple. I remember a few dreams where I've done it, starting with one I think is fairly common for a lot of people in some aspect or another; you're riding a bike, or snowboarding, or something to that effect and you hit a jump, and instead of gravity reacting like it would in the conscious world, it just seems to... dissipate and you keep going up instead of coming back down. I remember one in particular where I believe I was playing a form of paintball, but it was in a rather large warehouse situation that was constantly evolving and changing around us, and well, nobody was really stuck to the ground. I could fly through obstacles, away from people, anywhere I wanted, and despite it not being lucid, I remember thinking it was quite normal to be able to fly. This goes back to a previous post of mine about people keeping themselves grounded in reality during dreamtime.... I'm very much the opposite. I love my dreams, because nothing that happens there would ever happen in waking life.

Well, how does my subconscious know what its like to be a female? It doesn't, but I still dreamt about it ... hehe Your subconscious does what it can to piece together similar experiences to make an estimation of what it should 'be' like. I agree then with the others that its based on your closest experiences and best guesses at to what it should be like. Thus if you want your flying to be 'accurate'... then take up skydiving

Ya know, instead of all that other looney stuff I was talking about, what about this, it's really looney - placebo mentioning being a member of the opposite sex reminded me. What's your thoughts on shared consciousness? I'm sure there's better scientific terminology out there for it, but I can't think of it. I'm going to go pull up some of my old research on it this morning and brush up for sure though. But anyway, the idea is that the more people as a whole know in general, the more a single person should know, by being able to tap into sort of a "global knowledge positioning system" hahah. Like, they did this one test (and I like, totally said like, like wow) where they had a focus group of people doing a crossword every morning. The average completion rate was I think between 60 and 70 percent, then one morning they slipped in a crossword that had appeared in a major newspaper the day before, and without any knowledge of this, the focus groups percentile shot up to the mid 80's or so. That's quite a jump. Obviously I don't think this means *I* can run out and do yesterdays crossword today any better than I could've done it yesterday, but I'm just dumb... and it's just a baseless example, tho I hope it serves to portray what I'm talking about. There's more tangents to that study as well, especially if you start getting into the whole indigo children theories and what have you. Genetic knowledge, and the list goes on and on...

Good point, incognito Its called 'Global Consciousness'. Princeton has an experiment on it, where they use things called 'Eggs' (no not the edible sort) to determine if people communicate globally. They have some interesting results. As to the shared dreaming - I have no idea what it is, but it's happened to me once. Until I decide if telepathy is for real, I'll remain confused (Of course, some sort of communication in dreams is possible, according to my experience... but what is the nature of it?... dunno)

Oh wow, I've been on this site for maybe five minutes and I've already got four other googles open and a page on this guy named Teilhard de Chardin, who upon reading a little bit about suddenly explains the reasoning behind the name of the princeton website. Is it a full on seperate plane of existence? How many of these planes could there be? Or is it just your subconscious tricking you into thinking you're communicating with them... or is it a direct link, nothing more spectacular than a form of direct communication without the verbal aspect (which is pretty spifftacular if you ask me actually). OR Or is it a build up of gases in the lower abdominal region resulting from that quiche you just had to have earlier, even tho you knew you shouldn't, and added to the fact that you've been lazy and haven't gone to the gym the last three days in a row like you were supposed to. I like this theory best.
