Thumbs up I realized something today.

Please allow me to start with a short rant: When I first woke up a little while ago, I was disappointed because of the extremely large number of dreams I had missed recording. Insomnia is definitely a curse; I'm awoken so many times during the night that I often can remember (with the help of calea, mugwort, etc.) at least 8-10 vivid [although short, but still, new] dreams in a normal night, but I'm so tired and sick of waking up that I'm usually very reluctant to do anything other than lay there until I fall asleep again. Last night I was so worn out and sleep deprived that I was in bed for about 15 hours (fell asleep around 3:30 PM). The number of dreams I could have recorded is absurd.

But the good news is, one of the last ones was actually lucid. It was pretty brief, but I did get to have a good bit of fun just flying around above a school parking lot. And that's when I realized that flying is, and always has been, even in my lucid dreams from back before I knew what lucid dreaming was, completely effortless for me. Not once in a dream have I ever even had to think about it to accomplish it, and it's by far one of the most common things I do in my lucids, so much that I haven't even really thought about it until now. I'd say I fly probably more than I walk, it just seems so natural. I just wanted to share that... it made me happy despite the number of dreams I missed writing down.

Very nice! Congradulations on the lucid.

I too like to fly in my dreams, but I always have a really hard time controlling them. I fly up into the air really high and then usually lose control and fall back down to the ground, crashing and waking myself up or making everything go black. How do you steer your flying and control it easier?

Well, like I said, it's not really that I have a certain method of balancing or controlling it, or anything like that. It really is my primary mode of travel. I generally begin the lucid phase of any LD by making a quick dash forward and leaping off the ground, then zooming around the scenery at breakneck speeds. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it stems waaay back to when I was a little kid; I remember excitedly telling my dad about a dream where I was flying, and it's become a fairly regular thing since then. Therefore, it's pretty much just built into me.

So in summary, I guess the best advice I could give would be to... just do it!
Don't think about it, I suppose. Just know that you want it to happen. Sorry I can't really give better advice than that... but please give that a try and see if it works! Given that it's lucid dreaming, it could be the fact that you're focusing on the mechanics too much, so it wakes you up, or your subconscious is having trouble keeping up with the exact details you're trying to impose upon it in real-time.

Alright, thanks for the advice. I suppose it just will take more practice.

Yep, practice makes perfect. Think The Matrix.
