It's usually estimated at every 1.5 hours from the time you fall asleep, regardless of when that is. Although I'm told being more or less regular with your sleep is quite helpful.

Try the calender app. It allows you to set an alert at a specific time, which will play a short alarm. You can change the alarm by going to Settings>General>Sounds>Calender Alerts. Hope this helps :D
