I don't understand this dream at all. It's completely strange & unexpected to me. Yet it reoccurs a lot.
Mystery Man,

I wake up in a strange white bathroom. Completely white. Reminding me a little of a hospital. I'm watching from across the room as my other self [[we'll just call her muse]] is bathing in bubbles. She's covered in foamy white, just sitting in the porcelain bathtub crying. Her hair is long & black, cascading down her back. Suddenly she screams in great pain & brings herself to stand. Her naked body is covered in cuts & blood is pouring everywhere. She drops a razor blade on the tile floor & continues to scream & cry. I look at the bath water that was once a foamy white, it's now a horrid red. The entire bathroom is blood splattered. Muse falls back into the tub splashing the bloody water everywhere. I run to look in the bathtub but it's empty. Despite the sloshing water. I pull the plug & fall through the tub. Suddenly I'm looking at muse, she's falling through a drain that's in the middle of the floor of a white tiled room. Blood again is everywhere & she's still cut up all over. She screams as she falls through the drain, & lands on a fluffy white bed. Her blood seeping into the sheets. A man without a face comes up, confesses his love. Begging her, me, not to die. To hold on, to be his forever. Just as he leans over & kisses muse's forehead, she dies. Her eye's flutter & heartbeat stops. He cries into her, picking her up & placing her into her black casket. The silky red interior molding to her limp body. He rests his head on the rim, crying & saying, "Why did you have to die, when I loved you so?" He gets up & suddenly it's my funeral. He goes up to the podium, telling everyone nice things. Confesses his undying love & how he wished I hadn't of died. He walks back over & kisses my dead lips...

The dream is over. I'm bawling. I shudder as I remember all of this. Seeing my family sobbing, my friends with tear stricken faces. Not knowing who this guy is that loves me so much. This is the only dream that scares me to death & makes lucidity impossible..

Boy thats sure crazy! That you arn't becoming lucid during this dream is nothing to be worried about. We are not naturally lucid in dreams for a reason. Because were not supposed to be! this is your subconsious trying to figure out this problem. If there wasnt a problem.. then maybe your subconsious would let you become consiouse in its domain, enabling you to be free to do whatever the hell you wanted.. but since there is a problem to be solved, you cannot be lucid... so, maybe you should ask yourself... do you have problems such as: cutting yourself, cutting yourself in the bathtub, death, men with no faces, dull men, fear of bathrooms (espceally white ones), fear of that color, fear of letting people down... a few suggestions... next time you are falling asleep, or brushign yoruteeth, think of ways to defend yourself from this... like, you just might be eating strawberries if you find yourself in a tub full of red water..

The white is purity or a need for purity/healing/innocence. You were cleaning yourself or trying to remove something dirty or painful to your subconscious.

The act of someone being sucked into a hole or drain is the fear of “surrendering” or the fear of “losing”. I don’t know enough about you to apply this to your life, but you know the answer. It can be tangible or intangible, like the fear of losing oneself.

The unknown entity at the funeral podium told everyone nice things about you because you ARE a nice person (you sacrificially care for other people in some way). Sacrificial care can be invisible works. (You comfort friends/strangers frequently as opposed to you built an immense, brick, hospital for the indigent.)

The faceless person that doesn’t want you to die is either:
a spiritual entity (God/ His employee or something demonic) or
some part of yourself that has not manifested itself yet --the “future” you.

Why did you select the name absinthe? I’m asking because absinthe is a type of alcohol. Hmmm........self injuring nightmares......alcohol abuse is self injuring.......fall down tub drain nightmares.....losing yourself in alcohol?...losing your pain or losing someone else’s pain that you absorbed by getting drunk to forget it? Violent nightmares are a side effect of alcohol usage. Alcohol causes a decrease in REM sleep and when dc there is temporary REM rebound and nightmares. Are you worried about drinking too much?

Because I don’t know you, I feel the need to add this......Sometimes people absorb all the pain and suffering of their friends’ environments. These actions are usually done out of love but can be dangerous because you can overdose on suffering. If you are one of these people realize that you must take vacations from absorbing others’ pain ( a healthy vacation).

If you have personal pain, seek help from healthy people on how to recover or you will eventually “fall down the tub drain” and lose yourself. ( All of us know people that we dearly love but are unhealthy in which to receive good advice.)

If it's a recurring dream you could use it as a dream sign, which obviously helps lucidity, which in turn can allow you to rid yourself of the dream.

That's a fairly romantic dream if you look past the symbolism of transmutation.

Your dream sums up the cycle of life in a quick flick of the wrist, pun intended. Normally I find mutilation or gore signifies stubbornness, a fear of changing times or of life changing. When I have gorey transmutational dreams I find it's as though I'm trying to purge myself of the weakness of a physical state by imposing my own unnatural laws, when really I just need to give in a little and go along with the oft inconvenient.

Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder? Absinthe is a liquer flavored with Wormwood, a bitter form of Artemisia, which is poisonous, so is illegal in the U.S. unless they substitute a different bitter ingredient. The bitterness seems to me to fit this dream, which I personally don't find the least bit romantic. Another name for Wormwood is "Boy's Love." Is it the love of a boy you are seeking, or that of a man?

I have read fantasies, seen soap operas, with the girl who uses suicide attempts to get her lover back or get a man to feel sorry for her. And that's not a good thing! It portrays the woman as weak and helpless, and the man, whether he's worthy of it or not, as the savior. One big problem with the plan is that if the man doesn't show up, the girl dies, which is the most likely outcome of such a scenario, since most men don't respond well to such obvious manipulation. But then, maybe with a screen name like Absinthe, one wants a boy's love, not a man's?

This whole dream reads more like a fantasy than an actual dream, really, so leaves me wondering if you were more lucid than you think. If anything, I would say it's a cautionary tale against using self-harming behaviors to manipulate others into feeling sorry for you, or confusing feeling sorry for you with loving you. They are not the same, really.

What can you do for yourself to make yourself love yourself enough to also feel that others can love you too? I think that is the question you need to answer. Don't wait for a man to rescue you. Find the lovable parts of you, and feed and foster them.

I really don't think you understand me well enough to judge in saying I need to cut myself for a man to save me. My name is just Absinthe bc that's what it is. There are no undertones, or anything like that. Yes, it's a drink. Yes, it may mean "boy's love". But that doesn't mean that I need that. You are being way too critical & analytical of the name, when I'm posting a dream. I already have a "man's love", so in turn, I don't need to find one. I don't know why I have the dream, I really don't like the dream. I don't see how in the world you could portray it as a fantasy. When in all actuality, it's really scary to me. My boyfriend has really helped me in decoding the dream, which has turned up nothing about fantasies & boy love. So, in conclusion. I'm sorry but you are very wrong.

If you want a dream interpreted by someone who KNOWS you, then you don't post it on an internet forum, or you don't post something that heavy for your first post, but let others get to know you first. I said the dream reads more like a fantasy than a dream, because I've been working with dreams for many more years than you've been alive! I know what dreams look like, and what you posted reads like a bad fantasy, not a dream. Either way, it's not a healthy dream or fantasy, and you need to look at that. Dream interpretation is supposed to be critical (in terms of using reasoning skills) and analytical, actually, that is a large part of what interpretation is, with some intuition tossed in some of the time. A lot of people are into this kind of fantasy. I've also done a lot of writing workshops and interactive fiction on the internet, and you'd fit right in with the darker stuff I've seen.

I have to suggest that if you are really having these feelings, and aren't just writing fantasy to get attention, you *really* need to consider seeing a professional psychologist or psychiatrist. If you are at any level contemplating harming yourself this way, you need to consider seeing a psychologist. If you actually believe this stuff is romantic, you need to see a psychologist. Okay? Seriously, it's not good. Not fun. Not romantic. There is nothing romantic about a guy falling all over a woman because she slashed herself all up. You should be scared, and you should take it somewhere where someone can actually help you.

As for your screen name, you chose it. Either choose something else that suits you better, or expect to have people comment on it. Absinthe has a rather sordid reputation.

I find it remarkable that we are differentiating dreams from fantasies as if there is such a distinction. Both are an action of the imagination, both are unrealistic, and it really comes down to a prescription of moral intent. Obviously no one has suggested anything to do with this dream being a wonderful moral reality due to the violence involved. Regardless, there is a theme of jilted love, which although tragic, is in essence romantic since it has to do with love and lively hood.

Sure, everyone should see a shrink; but that won't make us any less crazy.

Psychotherapy is not a fast perfect process, and should not be a substitution for simple moral values. Since this is a dream, it is open to interpretation, granted one can approach it from several angles, but that approach in itself is just theoretical. Does it have any bearing on reality? Maybe. Maybe not. It could just be a dream and nothing more.

Actually, dreams and fantasies are quite different. Fantasies are projections of one's own imagination. Dreams can be connections with the Universe, and are more like interactions with Spirit, guides and angels, deceased family and friends, other people currently incarnate in the earth plane, etc. Dreams come for all kinds of purposes. They are not simply fantasies or just imagination. Many dreams are precognitive of real events. Many come to bring help and advice.

I did not suggest psychotherapy was either fast or perfect. It takes time, and I have been through psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy back in the 70's for nine years for a clinical depression. I'm quite sure it saved my life. I'm worried about Absinthe, as dreams of cutting oneself, or fantasies of cutting oneself are what the psychiatric profession would term "suicidal ideation." It's dangerous to play at! There is nothing wrong with getting a professional assessment.

And again, there is nothing romantic about this. It's darkness does not speak of love, but rather of co-dependency, which is not love, and which is common amongst people with drug and alcohol addictions and other kinds of addictions.

And, again, I don't believe from the way this is written that it is an actual dream. It reads like a fantasy. A dangerous one.

I also minored in psychology in college, worked as a therapeutic recreation director in a nursing home, and did volunteer work in a state mental hospital in that capacity. I have a son with drug addictions and drug-induced schizophrenia. I'm not just talking out of turn here... I'm concerned about Absinthe. An assessment by a professional can't hurt her. Not getting one might.
