      The T.V. Controls us all

The purpose of this thread is to discuss how the T.V. controlls us all, and how we bend to the wishes of this new media culture. Of all the news you watch 80% of the facts have been misprinted, mislabled, or the FACTS HAVE BEEN ALTERED.

I think the media and marketing industries are brainwashing us...we are now buying rediculous stuff we DO NOT NEED. I understand luxury's and all, but this is going way too far.

To quote the movie Fight Club: "The things you own, end up owning you"
It is an amazing move, i suggest everyone watch it a few times at least.

And finally to quote Incubus, from the CD S.C.I.E.N.C.E.

      "Idiot Box"

You keep your riches and I'll sew my stitches,
you can't make me think like you, mundane.
I've got a message for all those who think that
they can etch his words inside my brain

      T.V., what do I need?
      Tell me who to believe!
      What's the use of autonomy
when a button does it all?

      So listen up,
      glisten up closely all,
who've seen the fuckin eye ache too.
It's time to step away from cable train
And when we finally see the subtle light,
this quirk in evolution will begin
to let us live and recreate

      T.V., what do I need?
      Tell me who to believe!
      Whats the use of autonomy
when a button does it all?

      T.V., what should I see?
Tell me who should I be?
Lets do our mom a favor and drop
a new god off a wall.

Let me see past the fatuous knocks.
I've gotta rid myself of this idiot box!
Let you see past the feathers and flocks,
and help me plant a bomb in this idiot box!
From the depths of the sea
to the tops of the trees
to the seat of a lazy boy...
      staring at a silver screen!!

kill your tv. -- survivor. fear factor. the real world. the newly weds. ALL SHIT. south park pumps it's propaganda into every episode. cnn. abc. nbc. cbs. fox. mtv. ALL SHIT. do yourself a favor and kill your tv. listen to talk radio... they at least stick to the "down to earth" issues, while giving you a heads up on what bias is talking. on tv you have to sift through the shit, you have to understand motives... sports are ok though seriously, you can't get a bias baseball game... you can get bias announcers... but the game is the game.

*holds fist in the air* fight the man! kill your tv!

I've stopped watching TV, simple as that.

It's subliminal suggestion. If you're told to do something enough times you will do it.

I've stopped watching it, save for every now and then. It's amazingly addictive, and I don't even turn it on anymore. Programming is funner anyway. (And more productive!)

      TV controlling us.

I completely agree with the notion that the TV networks are the true power brokers in the American State. They decide who the president will be, they decide who will and will not have human rights, and the list goes on and on. One sucj example is what is going on with Sen. Edwards and Mr. Kerry. Once the people hear a good debate between the two, most people are checking their voting intentions and are reconsidering their vote. Edwards has a clean background, is less contraversial, and is a moderate. The conservative media however, do not want a democratic nominee who is capable of beating President Bush. Thus, they are doing everything in their power to pursuad the public that Kerry will be the nominee. It is sickening to watch.

I haven't stopped altogether, nor have i consciously tried to cut back - i just naturally do not want to. i never really did enjoy it much, it's just always been a decent way to spend some "quality" time with others. i'd say i watch about an hour, hour and a half a week...and approximately all of that feels like a chore.
i can scarcely see myself owning a TV when i'm on my own...well perhaps to occassionally project my movies and nintendo. 8)

ooh and LS, how about some new incubus? "Talk Shows on Mute" or "Made For TV Movie" are also very fitting...

so much more...endearing with the sound turned off"

      First, Welcome dreambahai

Interesting screen name! What does it mean?

Secondly, i watch about 1 hour a day, mainly when trying to relax with my wife before bed.

I wish all TV's would turn into small mushroom shaped clouds. Useless little boxes!!!

They want bush to win? Most the Tv networks want to see him lose badly.

Personlly I say its up to the person to decide. If your to lazy to think for yourself tv is going to do it for you. If tv doesn't newspapers will, and if they don't your just going to listen to anyone who happens to walk by.

That is really only news on tv though. Most tv is entertainment though. I think most people tune out commercials, there so many of them and no one buys any of that stuff.

To quote some more INCUBUS, from their new CD: A Crow Left of the Murder

      "Talk Show On Mute"

      Take a bow
      Pack on powder
Wash 'em out with buzzing lights
      Pay an audience to care
      "Impress me" personality

      Still and transfixed
The electric sheep are dreaming of your face
      Enjoy you from the chemical
      Comfort of America

      Come one, come all
      Into 1984
      Yeah, three, two, one
      Lights, camera, transaction

Quick, your time is almost up
Make all forget that they're the moth
      Edging in towards the flame
      Burn into obscurity

      Still and transfixed
The electric sheep are dreaming up your fate
And judge you from the card castle
      Comfort of America

      Come one, come all
      Into 1984
      Yeah, three, two, one
      Lights, camera, transaction

      Your foundation is canyoning
Fault lines should be worn with pride
I hate to say it but
      You're so much more
      You're so much more
Endearing with the sound turned off

      ================================================

      "Made For TV Movie"

I heard a word from on high
Glare like a light in the sky
It said, "quit blowing each other up"

The voice seemed so crystaline clear
      Something's unclean in your ear
When only blood fills your cup

      Hello
I'm trying to focus, but my eyes decieve me
      Focus
      I'm witnessing history repeating

It fell like a tear from my eye
      Flying machines so up high
      Well, there goes the neighborhood

A scene set to singe innocence
      Upheave, unhinge, and pit against
Like every made for TV movie should

      Hello
I'm trying to focus, but my eyes decieve me
      Focus
      I'm witnessing history repeating

      Focus, Focus
      Focus (I can see now)

We are, we know, we see, we think for you
The who, the what, the when, the where, the why
We build your young, we build you too, we see you all

      Hello
I'm trying to focus, but my eyes decieve me
      Focus
      I'm witnessing history repeating

TV is more addictive the heroin, then crack...
It is the most major epidemic of social sickness we face today.

Every corporation has the RIGHT to lie about EVERYTHING they say
Every corporation is the same, their are only 7 ceos in the world
(the rest are poser bitch ceos who are fronts for their true masters)

Every show I have ever seen is completely biased to the right
The left is right, too.. This is simply shown:
      EVERY TV SHOW WORSHIPS CONSUMERISM
      EVERY PRESIDENTIAL CANIDATE WORSHIPS CONSUMERISM
EVERYTHING ON TV WORSHIPS THE GOD OF IDOLISM

The ONLY Tv worth any truth is

      FREE SPEECH and
      WORLD LINK TV

that's it!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes Simpsons, Daily show, South Park, Chapelle,
      ...sometimes...

But TV is like shootin up, Commercials are Burkean.
Burkean speech: Defined by Burk, first used in mass communication by none other then Adolf Hitler, now employed by corp commericals.
      The speech works like this:
Tell the crowd how much they suck, how bad their lives are
      Attribute this to your opposition
Tell the crowd that it is not their fault, that they are controlled by the opposition
Tell the crowd that you have the solution, tell them that you have the truth, tell them anything they wanna hear, cause you are their salvation.

It is truly evil. Burk HATED being associated with this speech method, he merely defined it, he never used it.

TV is evil. It is a Nazi propaganda machine to keep us semi-sick, working, and at WAR. The sins of American media cannot go unpunished like this!!!

But the addiction...ppl won't leave Tv, cause they WORSHIP it. They BELIEVE in it. Tv is this nation's god....football, movies, sitcoms....

      IDOLISM!!!~

      ...to be continued....

TV plays a major role in today's world.

For example, if TV did not exsist today, the Twin Towers would not of collapsed. There would not of been extensive coverage of it.

Perhaps more people would have car accidents. Adverts today urge us to wear our seatbelts.

England would be German. Television helped create the radar in WWII.

As long as I can afford my own house, support and love a family in the future, have enough money for a TV, nice computer, decent car, vacation once in a while, and food on the table every day, what do I care about big ass corporations. I spend my money on their mars bars and coke cans once in a while, so what.

Its not really about the programs that we watch, although there are only a couple of exeptions to otherwise mindless programs. I is about the lifestyle, the culture that we live in is based on it. I won't lie to you, I love to watch T.V. I watch plenty of it everyday. I just don't believe anything they tell me too. That doesn't mean its good, it just means that hopefully I am more resistant to the crap they feed us everyday, and the lives they teach us to live.

I only watch about 10 shows, and every so often I will watch something that seems interesting. Most of these are pretty much comedies, such as Seinfeld(my personal all-time favorite), Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, Futurama, Family Guy, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, News Radio........

      Nothing to be taken seriously......

Anyway, we are already in to deep, the downfall of T.V. wouldn't even do much good now. We have already assimilated its culture into our lives, and people are living the ways that we are told to so we can be as cool as the pretty people wearing the X brand genes. It is alive, and in every one of us. All we can do now is to try to refuse every single thing we are taught, for it all comes from the same source, the same idolized idiotized lifestyle...

Go and watch fight club again....and again....and again. Perhaps it is the only answer, the only way to live.......
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
