      What's Your Enneagram Type?

The enneagram is basically something made up of 9 personalities which are basically suppose to make us up:

      http://eclecticenergies.com/enneagram/test.php

then for the information, this place is more reliable (since it doesn't completely focus on the flaws of our personality as the other one seems):

      http://enneagraminstitute.com

      which one are you?

I'm a 2w3 (the w3 means I contain a part of the 3 which makes a very small part of who I am... like w3 makes the 2 help by what s/he will think others would want the help to be like, while w1 helps others by how s/he thinks it should be like, the wings are adjacent to the basic personality, like... there is no 2w8 because 2 isn't next to 8 )

      That's funny, I'm a 9w1.

You are most likely a type 9.

Taking wings into account, you seem to be a 9w1.

      Type 9 - 10
      Type 2 - 9
      Type 7 - 7
      Type 6 - 7
      Type 1 - 7
      Type 5 - 6.3
      Type 8 - 3

      Type 9 - The Peacemaker

      Keeping peace and harmony

Nines essentially feel a need for peace and harmony. They tend to avoid conflict at all costs, whether it be internal or interpersonal. As the potential for conflict in life is virtually ubiquitous, the Nine's desire to avoid it generally results in some degree of withdrawal from life, and many Nines are, in fact, introverted. Other Nines lead more active, social lives, but nevertheless remain to some to degree "checked out," or not fully involved, as if to insulate themselves from threats to their peace of mind.[/b]

*sigh* I took the test and posted my results, I got to the temporary menu after the post and shut out, but I guess it never registered. Thankfully I remember my results, because that test had a lot of questions.

My high was Type 5, at 12.7, I think. Type 4 and Type 6 were next with 10.9 and 10.3. Type 5 is the Investigator, but more specifically I was 5w4, which is the Iconoclast. After that, I was 4w5 and 5w6.

I'm a type five and it describes me pretty well, but it says I'm a 5w6 and I'm really nothing like a 6. I have aspects of 1 and 4 in my personality and they showed up, but it also shows 6 and 9 which are nothing like me.

      It's an interesting test.

I hate these personality tests, not because I don't believe them, but because they're so damned accurate. My descriptions always come off so negative. I'm a 5w4, by the way.

Hey bob, you are the same as me! Yes, the description is negative, but we are iconoclasts. One definition is "one to overthrow popular ideas", and these test results are no different . Most people don't understand it, so they label it bad. You know what it is, make it work for you.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Ah, the w6 part means that comparing 4 and 6... you're more of a 6 than a 4 (for the second type). I think people with a w6 wing are more anxious and people with a w4 wing are more self-conscious... I'm not sure though.

BTW, mostly they are always focusing on the unhealthy descriptions. All types are pretty ugly when they are unhealthy. They just do it to help people out... but you can always search for the good things of each type.

Here are the good things of each type (this is when they're healthy):

Hmm, no such "tests" are ever precisely accurate as they're not fully objective (and many aren't even close, assume far too much) but the second type of the test, which I took out of curiosity (and lack of patience), seemed more so stable than different other "personality tests" about.
According to it I'm typed 8. Curious.

K, I've translated this from a spanish site (google translated and then translated the rest on my own). Here's what it says about each triad... Instinctive Triad (8, 9 and 1), Feeling Triad (2, 3 and 4), and Thinking Triad ( 5, 6 and 7):

I'll start first with the Instinctive Triad:

      Translated from: http://personarte.com/instinto.htm

      Instinctive Triad

Types Eight, Nine and One have formed around distortions of their instincts, that are the root of their vital force.

The Instinct Triad has to do with the intelligence of the body, the vital basic operation and the survival. The body has a very important role in all the forms of authentic work because returning the conscience to the body affirms the quality of the presence. The body exists in here and now, at the present moment, which is fundamental to be able to make a good work of personal development.

When in fact the instinctive center is inhabited, this one gives a deep sensation of fullness, stability and autonomy or independence. When the contact with that essence is lost, the personality tries “to fill it” providing a false sensation of autonomy. In order to find that false sensation of autonomy the personality creates what in psychology it is called defense mechanisms. The types of personality of this triad try to resist to the reality (creating limits for the "I", based on physical tensions).

These types of personalities tend to have repression and aggressiveness problems; under the defenses of the personality they have a lot of anger/wrath.

The Eights, Nines and Ones know how they feel and in general they do not have great difficulty in taking action. They, instead of that, ignore themselves, and is common that they react from the emotional foundation of the rage. It is typical for these three styles to have the greatest difficulty in the field of the reason and fight to remember their own necessities.

In the Literature of the Eneagrama, to the Eights, Nines, and Ones are called the “instinctive types” because they tend to be detectors of the corporal sensation, people that perceive things very intuitively and physically, before knowing them in a cognative way. They are more prone to the difficulties with the appropriate rational conception and often experience a species of mental fogginess(?).

Imagine that you are in a party that is very active with lots of people that you know, and nobody can see you or hear you. Just as the invisible man you can intervene physically, but you remain without being seen. You know that you are present, but for some mysterious reason nobody else knows it. From time to time some watch in your direction, and you begin to correspond with something; soon you realize that they are actually looking at someone behind you. At other moments, you listens “by chance” your friends, babble about you. “In your absence”, of course.

After trying in vain to interact reciprocally, every time you more are frustrated by the situation. But suddenly and gradually, you begin to think: "Maybe I'm not really here.” A type of darkening begins to dominate itself on your perception and little by little you forget why you came to the party, what it is you wish for, and even of whom you are. Parts of you have been convinced and have accepted the situation. But in another level, you feel furious.

Eights, Nines and Ones feel invisible and angry but they each react differently. Perhaps Eight in the imaginary party, solve to affirm their presence using some impossible form of not noticing to correct the injustice of being ignored(?). Perhaps Nines resign to not being seen and might become dedicated to provide the drinks at the counter, burying their rage or expressing it indirectly. A One might work hard on correcting the disasters at the buffet table, channeling their anger by being worried about order.

Generally, the Eights, Nines and Ones are more cenestésicos(don't know what it means, sorry [] ?) and auditory than visual. And even though they can see with clarity the external world, usually they have a foggy or distorted internal vision, especially when it comes to seeing their own necessities and priorities. The three styles tend to lean towards polar thought and can reduce a complex situations to problems of "everything or nothing", or to neither this, nor the other either. This is much more a problem of reason that some limitation with the heart or the will; it is hard to think with clarity when you are not there really.

The thought of Eight will tend to be polarized to the service of the necessity to feel strong, taking the form from “either you are with me or you are against me”. The Nines could be absorbed in the irrelevant things or feel trapped between two opposite options when neither of the options matter to him or her at all. The Ones will twist their reason by means of the reduction of the multidimensional reality to the simplified categories of black and white.

Like detectors of the corporal sensation all Ones, Eights and Nines tend to numb out their emotions by means of its conversion in physical sensations. Instead of saying “That hurts my feelings” or “I am disturbed”, somebody of this trio could say “This boils my skin” or “I am anxious”. The person is more conscious of a physical sensations than of an emotion.

The Eights usually turn their emotions to sexual lust and physical energy, whereas the Nines can turn theirs to salpullidos of the skin, somnolencia, headaches or problems in the eyes. Not yet wide-awake ones usually translate their emotions to tension in the body and rigidity to which is called "armor of the character “. A One could be needing to shout and on the contrary they become stiff and exhausted.

In books of Eneagrama, the tendency to suppress or to neglect the own personal position is called "auto-forgetfulness"(It's spanish guys... it's a whole 'nother language), but another term for it could be "Hypnotic Amnesia"(?. This difficulty usually is described like a condition of “sleepy mind”; nevertheless, another term for the polarized and confused reason exists: pseudothought.

The Eights, Nines and Ones generally grew feeling ignored. People with these styles could have experienced their early world as indifferent, an atmosphere where their vulnerabilities and necessities did not find a place. Unlike Two, Three and Fours who felt misunderstood, the Eights, Nines and Ones often felt ignored or invisible.

Still carrying these experiences of their childhood, it is common that when adult they ignore themselves as much as their necessities, anticipating themselves to be invisible for the others. Eights, Nines and Ones all have a tendency towards "Auto-Carelessness" like a process (??? to anticipate and to avoid the negligence of others. As well as Two, Threes and Fours tend to "auto-reject", and the Fives, Six and Sevens tend to fall in "auto-opposition", the Eights, Nines and they tend to "auto-erase".

The adult Eights erase themselves and then compensate by overexaggerating their presence. The Nines erase themselves and then they concentrate on adapting themselves to their environment. Ones "auto-supress" themselves by relegating (???) their necessities over their objective principles (???), forgetting what they really desire and concentrating on what should be done.

The main wound that these styles share lies in their sense of the being; it is a loss of recognizing oneself, hurt by the scorn. The paradox that reigns in these styles is: “To be taken care of and taken into account, I must try not to be here.”

The general challenge for the Eights, Nines and Ones is to begin to see themselves themselves and to recover their presence, to become aware of their own necessities, and to focus on their personal priorities and the inner sense of themselves. They learn to reveal a real being, once invisible, and begin to reason and to see the things from a more loveable attitude.
      Center: Instinctive
Interest or preoccupation: Resistance and control of the surroundings, power, fear to be dominated and to be operated
Problems of: Aggressiveness and repression that are translated in “bad” relations with the others and the surroundings in general.
      They look for: Autonomy
      Buried feeling: Wrath/Anger

Now to continue... the Feeling Triad (2, 3 and 4)

      Translated from: http://personarte.com/sentimiento.htm

      The Feeling Triad

In this triad, the energy is centered entirely in the heart when this manages to become(or come from? blahblahblah) the essence of each person.

When the heart is open, it really knows who it is, it is not interested the form in that the others see it, since from the heart one learns to value true essence of one's self and the essence of those around him. When the heart is kept blocked and closed, not only does one lose contact with their true identy, but also that one no longer fills loved or valued. This loss is unbearable, therefore the personality takes part to create an substitute identity and to find other things that give the sensation of worth, generally looking for the attention and the external affirmation of the others.

These types of personalities are interested in their image (attachment to the false or supposed "I" of its personality). They think that histories on them and their supposed qualities are their true identity; under the defenses of they personality they carry lots of shame.

Twos, Threes and Fours share a permanent tangle on their identities, that confuse who they are with how they shine before the others. To a certain extent, all the styles of personalities do this but they are Twos, the Threes and the Fours that are more prone to confuse "seeming" with the "being". The people of this triad tend to neglect how they feel in reality in favor of how they are suppose to feel, according to the roles they're exectuting.

Twos, Threes and Fours are sometimes called, the types of the “heart” or of “feeling”, it would seem to indicate that they were skilful in the fields of “emotion”. But in fact, it's the opposite: their greatest difficulty is in the subjects of the heart.

A key to understand this contradiction is in which the PNL (Neuro-linguistic Programming)(lol... no clue, I think it's some part of the brain or something) calls direct feelings and derived feelings, in reference to the feelings that you experiment directly versus the feelings that are derived from their other senses.

Imagine skiing down a hill. While you are concentrated on the descend, you become more and more immersed and implied in the experience, feeling the direct pleasure of the wind in your face, the snow trail that you leave after, the increasing acceleration, the vibrant sensation in your legs and trunk, a feeling of excitation and vitality in your chest, and deep inside, you grow with joy and fullness.

Now imagine skiing down that same mountain but with a different mentality. This time as soon as you begin to descend, you begin to wonder how your skiing outfit compares to the latest fashion, and you begin to evaluate your performance down the slopes: perfection of your style, your impressive speed, what observers down at the bottom can be saying about you, what your friends would think if they could see you now, how proud your first ski instructor would be…

In the first description you experienced your body and emotions directly. In the second experience - by a derivation of images and words - your feeling of genuineness “was immediately replaced” by an idea of what you did.

The difference between direct feeling and derived feeling, is equal to the difference between drama and melodrama or love and sentimentality. In general, the direct feelings are deeper than the derived feelings, and too many of the latter can surrender to the fraudulence: to try to feel the way that they think they are supposed to feel, according to their self image. In books of Enneagram, the tendency to interpret scripts of Twos, Three and Fours is described like vanity, but another denomination could be identification with the image. Another term for the derived feeling is pseudofeeling.

When young, Twos, Three and Fours were misinterpreted often, this is, were praised or criticized with too much emphasis by their external behavior. The deeper emotional necessities of the boy/girl were neglected and who pretended to be became more important than who they were in reality, something like a clinical case of erroneous identification .

The people with these styles experienced their early world like socially conditioned. The price of family and social acceptance was to interpret or to recreate a role, and then "perform a serenade" to obtain the supper. Twos could be compensated by the useful functions that they carried out, Threes by their external profits, whereas Fours could have obtained recognition to by seeming different than everybody else.

Still carrying these experiences of from their childhood, it is common for the adults of this triad to reject their own true feelings in favor of external validation, resulting in a representation of roles without a connection to who they really are. The Two repress their personal necessities to play the role of rescuers. The Threes reject their imperfect and uncertain self, in exchange for one that is reliable and successful, which is exactly the opposite of how they, in truth, feel. The Fours reject themselves from feeling spoiled or ordinary, and compensate interpreting the role of a unique and special person.

Subconsciously, Two, Three, and Fours often ask themselves, “ Who am I know?” The main wound these 3 styles share lie in their sense of identity and their daily life can be seen as a type of permanent identity crisis. The paradox that reigns in these styles is: “In order for me to be loved, I must pretend to be someone else.”

The area of greater confusion offers the greater potential for the growth(can't... trans...late...). The general challenge for both, Three, and Cuatros is to learn to distinguish their direct feelings from their derived feelings: to get to be real for themselves and the others. As they change and they grow, the people of this trio recover and welcome their real being who usually is eclipsed behind a representation.
      Center: Feeling
Interest or preoccupation: Love to false own image, self-esteem, the fear of rejection and dispproval.
Problems of: Identity and hostility, that are reflected in unsatisfactory intimate relations, as much for itself, as for the others involved.
      They look for: Attention
      Buried feeling: Shame-Vanity

Last but not least, the thinking triad (5, 6 and 7):

      Translated from: http://personarte.com/pensamiento.htm

      The Thinking Triad

The dominant feelings in the types of personalities pertaining to this triad are anxiety and the insecurity, to say it of another form, the types of this triad are more worried about the future in search of security and tranquillity, that in the present realities or the memories of the past.

The Thinking Triad has become disconnected with the aspects of true nature, which some spiritual traditions calls “the silent mind”, ready and awake. This is the source of inner direction that gives us the capacity to perceive the reality as it is, and allows us to be receptive of the inner knowledge capable of orienting all actions. When these types of personality are disconnected from the essence they count on a talkitive mind, it is for this reason that they which to quiet their anxious minds in search of that silent mind. When they are blocked from that essence they feel fear, which fills them with insecurities.

Types Five, Six and Seven tend to lean towards the anxiety (they experience lack of support and direction). They give in to behaviors that they think are going to improve their security; under the defenses of this personality they carry a lot of fear.

Unlike Twos, Threes and Fours, the Fives, Six and Sevens are not confused about whom they are nor how feel. They, instead of that, tend to anticipate, in an unconscious way, the dangers of life, and it is common for them to react from the emotional foundation of fear. In general, the Fives, Six and Sevens find the greatest difficulty to be in integrating their personal power and taking action in the world, of assertive and consistent form.

In the Literature of the Enneagram they call the people of this trio the “thinking types”, because they go by life fighting with their heads. They are in general thinkers that overuse their minds to compensate for the repression of their physical instincts. The Fives, Six and Sevens suffocate in the dilemmas of doing and usually experience some sort of "knot" in the will.

Imagine how it is to see the world like the most dangerous place, populated by forces that can be unfavorable, and against which you lack safe defense. It is as if you were not in the top of the nutritional chain and had to keep guard of the predators greater than you which can defeat, damage or catch you. With similar vision of the world, you absolutely lack the election power, to say “Yes” or “No”. Your personal preferences are less important that those of others; they have right and you don't. Any demand for you, and you feel that you must say "Yes", when your answer is really “No”.

Because your will is crossed over with the desires of the others, the Fives, Six and Sevens, whether they're conscious of it or not, question their capacity to handle imminent challenges. In order to compensate that, they tend to live in the future, preparing mentally for what it will happen by means of lucubrating in “visual and auditory curls”. They see the images of the future with their minds eye, later speak with themselves; then they see more images… and then they speak more internally. All, in an effort to prepare themselves for what is approaching. It looks like to narrate homemade videos or to see the advances of the next openings of the industry of the entertainment.

The Fives, Six and Sevens can have most complicated strategies for the decision making, because usually they try to make two things simultaneously: to choose and not to choose. For an external observer, the people of in this trio give the impression to be replacing "doing" with "thinking". But, internally, that way of thinking feels like a form of doing which could be called "pseudoaction". The generalized fear is described sometimes in books of the Enneagram like cowardice, but another term for it is "Auto-opposition". Whereas Twos, Three and Cuatros tend to "Auto-reject", the Fives, Six and Sevens tend to "auto-opposition", to return their power against themselves.

It is very frequent that Fives, Six and Sevens have grown feeling unprotected, overwhelmed, or supported in an inadequate way and they have perhaps perceived life as dangerous from very small. Real desires of the child clashed with those of others which needed to overprotect, control, or abandon them. The people of these styles experienced their early world as nonnegotiable. The young Fives might have felt pressured by a swarm of people or overwhelmed with social expectations. The Six could have felt unprotected or dominated, whereas it is frequent that the Sevens has felt imprisoned or overloaded with duties.

Still carrying these experiences of their childhood, it can be common in the adults of this trio to suppress their desires and to deny their true preferences as a process to anticipate the external opposition. The Fives, Six and Sevens tend to project their power on the others so that they can then react against that. After they found the opposition in the others, they are then against themselves.

The Fives adults can feel as if others had the power to request any thing to them and they could not say “No”. They avoid self-affirming themselves directly and once they feel invaded design strong borders for the future. The Sixes are able to resign to saying "no" directly, and, instead, they delegate their options in idealized figures of authority. The Sevens decide things that they do not wish to do or avoid the suffering of the others. After catching themselves in expectations or commitments, the Sevens feel that they did not have election and then they compensate by making their options more flexible to evade them.

The main wound these 3 styles share is in their sense of will. While Twos, Threes and Fours worry about their identity, the Fives, Six and Sevens worries about their competition. Their recurrent unconscious question no longer is “ Who am I?” but “ Am I capable? Can I truely do this?” The prevailing paradox in all and each of these three styles are: “To be the owner of my power, I must first put it out of the reach of others.”

The general challenge for the Fives, Six and Sevens is to integrate, in themselves, their power and to assume the responsibility of their actions. As they change and they grow, the people with these styles connect themselves with their instincts and begin to exercise their wills instead of projecting them in the external thing. They begin to say “Yes” and “No” from the sensation of the free election and learn how to "self-affirm": their certainty.
      Center: Thought
Interest or preoccupation: Strategies and beliefs, distrust.
Problems of: Insecurity and anxiety that distort the will for the "to do".
      They look for: Security
      Buried feeling: Fear

Almost equal for 5w6 and 5w4, which is about as accurate as it gets. I voted 4 though because I thought I remembered that from a previous test... oh well, it's not that far off.

I did the instinctual one so it seems a bit different. It says most like type 2, then 9, then 4, with social instinct across the board except for one or two sexuals and one self-preserving. I'll try the classic one now.

      2w3 says the classic test.

      Type 2 - 12.7
      Type 9 - 11.3
      Type 3 - 9.3
      Type 8 - 9
      Type 7 - 9
      Type 4 - 9
      Type 5 - 7.3
      Type 1 - 4.7

I'm not sure I like these things. I always feel like I have traits from every basic personality so i could get any result and somewhat agree. I feel two ways about everything, too, so i hate these forced answer deals.

I guess... it's sort of accurate... i can't really put my finger on the type of personality i am.
I just leave it to others to decide.
I'm a chameleon if i ask myself. I help people that want to be helped, but i rarely want help myself.
I have an implosive temperament, so i mostly appear calm, even if someone is screaming in my face... until i burst.
I am very open with my feelings, and dislike people who shut in their feelings.
I think to much, i easily get anxious and worried over small things.
I am often wandering in my own thoughts, thinking about everything, i pay attention to details, and over-analyze most things.
I am quite confident in myself, but still shy to other people and suspicious about them, i like to be alone, or with close friends.
      I'm open-minded, but not gullible.
I dislike conflict, but don't avoid confrontation.
I act like myself, and hate people who don't.
I have a hard time trusting others.

That probably says most about my personality, might have forgot something, but i'm tired at the moment,
though The Reformer(1) seems to be pretty accurate to me in most parts, with balanced or close to balanced wings.

I'm definitely a nine. None of the others it suggested even loosely fit me. Don't like that wing stuff either.
