I'm not going to go into an epic post on why is it good/bad to commit suicide . lie etc. Though, I agree with what "bradybaker" said that people who plan to commit suicide are not in their right state of mind. Yes some people lives do suck and believe there is no other way out. I find it to be giving up and personally I am not one to give up but I can see why people decide to do so.

Though on the other hand you can look on suicide another way : "Suicide is way of telling God: You can't fire me, I quit!"

oh, that sounds bad cause of the seriousness of this topic .. don't hate me.

In order to shed light I will expound on why I believe all of us are under a imposed path of suicide.
We where born, and therefor alive, all we see is death and things coming to an end, so deep inside we all conceive our eventual end we call our death. This is basically forced upon us through the advent of life.

This suggests that our finite reasoning brings our eventual end. If it is prudent to observe that there are those who seek to destroy another to create the self. It would also be prudent to assume they are actually engaging in their own self-destruction.

It is fair to say that death is the only thing we are guranteed in life. But I'm not sure this constitutes us all as suicidal or self-destructive, imposed or not. We just chose our path of death.

Of course not. I completely agree - a suicidal persons mind completely introverts and is completely clouded.

I made this thread for philosophical discussion and perhaps for all those who read it to keep in mind if these thoughts were to ever come to mind.

Lets not take cyanide pills if you are 99.9% certain you will be tortured to death over a timespan of the next 3 weeks.

What is that sound? Is it sarcasm? :0

Besides that, I myself do not like to lie. However, the first post in this topic implied some 'higher' truths that exceed humanity. Unless you believe in a higher being, I think saying 'you should not lie' is silly.

I just feel people should be kind to each other. I think(to know) that is pretty unlikely however.

I would like to examine the act of suicide based on what I remember from Camus’ Myth of Sisyphus.

Let us examine the world as we know it. The world in which we live cares nothing about us. When our lives are ended, by whatever means, the world will continue with life as normal. Those around you will greave only as long as the world dictates. Soon after our expiration we are forgotten and those with life continue to follow through with their own plans. To come to this conclusion, this idea that the world truly has no position on the fact weather you live or die is to understand that we are insignificant, and to the grandiose plan, isolated. Also we are completely void of any true meaning in life. There is no set means by which we can create value of ourselves. So as we stare introspectively in search for some sort of meaning we encounter that there is none. So what do we do in the face of this void? We do like Don Quixote and create meaning and value in our lives by our own volition. But what of those who refuse to create their own windmills to defeat? Those who would rather not engage the idea of meaninglessness? They are given value by the collective. Those who refuse to create value in their lives will have value and meaning imposed on them by an outside force.
Now let us examine suicide. Suicide as I see it is a loss of value and meaning in ones life. We can see the connection to this broad idea of suicide easily in the description of egotistical suicide presented earlier in this thread. As for Anomic suicide, we may discern that the meaning and value in ones life is lost due to the breakdown of social standards and values. Anomic suicide shows a prime example of how those who will not formulate their own values assimilate the values of society. Fatalistic suicide, as listed above, is a loss of value that comes from the inability to carry out our meaning and value. The only form of suicide that is not in line with a loss of value is the suicide that is value, altruistic suicide. This idea of suicide being a key value or meaning shows us the absurdity of suicide itself. For if Suicide comes from a loss of value and meaning then it is a result of illogical thinking (as we have covered thus far in the thread) because we have the ability to choose our own values and create our own meaning.
The world is completely devoid of meaning. There is no true universal reason to go on and we are incapable of surviving in a world without meaning, therefore we create our own, each of us, as a means to survive. Since we are capable of creating meaning in our own lives when our current meaning is stripped and we are faced with meaninglessness then it is our prerogative to create something new.

      Sorry if this seems disjointed

This is fatalistic suicide, please consider the previous posts.

Besides that, I myself do not like to lie. However, the first post in this topic implied some 'higher' truths that exceed humanity. Unless you believe in a higher being, I think saying 'you should not lie' is silly. [/b]
I never implied a 'higher' truth or 'higher' being. I am not a theist. I do not believe Kant was truly a theist as well considering his theistic solution.

I am saying that those things I covered are not logical actions. Consider to logic process posted earlier for why.

I just feel people should be kind to each other. I think(to know) that is pretty unlikely however.
      [/b]
You make statements here derived from your own form of logic. Consider what they are. You feel/think certain things but you had to employ certain forms of logic in order to reach those conclusions. I am tackling that logic in order to exemplify why things like suicide and lying are illogical. For example: why do you feel people should be kind to each other? Why do you think it is pretty unlikely? The commitmental words you are using are simply another form of weasel words to avoid dedication to the logic you are employing. Kant is commited to his philosophy.

Please keep in mind that these are philosophies from Immanuel Kant and Emile Durkheim - not myself. Do not relate these theories to me - I am merely presenting them to the board.

Meh. What is the difference for certain people? Some people are so depressed they are going trough torture (and maybe only have a small chance to escape their depression) And everyone is going to die one time.

I don't see the difference between nazi's taking cyanide and extremely chronically depressed people.

Except for lame kids that are going to puberty and cut themselves, that is just lame.
