      2012 Mass Panic?

I just realised something about 2012...

After reading the end of the world thread by wer, i noticed him saying that people belive in this so much that he closed his pension and anything after the year 2012 was cancelled.

Well now i think if people belive in it that much then a couple of things will happen.

      One
People who belive they will die tomorrow, who are so convinced that that will be their last day, will go into panic. There will be looting, rape, murder and anything people repressed due to laws and such. All ties will be forgotton, because there is nothing to live for the next day.
your next door neighbor shagged your wife? Why not kill him,hes gonna die anyway and so are you so why not?

      Two
People who belive in the 2012 end-of-world throries so much will, like the scientist who i cant remember name of (wers thread), spend all their money. All of the pension, the kids' inheritence and will commit atrocities like in number one. When they wake up the next day, theyre either already dead because the world has ended, or if the theories are all false and shit all happens, then not only will they all be standing there feeling like fucksocks but will be so ashamed, bankrupt, wanted by the law etc that there will be mass suicide.

      Anywone have any questions?
i, myself have no idea what 2012 will bring,im fully prepared to not think too much of it until the actual day happens. And then ill either have died in my sleep or woke up and laughed at the world...and realise that a lot of 2012 fanatics have committed suicide and blown a few things up because they thought 'What the heck,it aint gonna be here tomorrow, lets have some fun!'

First off, very few people believe anything at all will happen. Secondly the people who do believe most likely has huge doubts about it.

Anyone who believes in it enough to hurt people and don't have a problem doing it, is crazy anyway and most likely would do the stuff anyway.

Hmmm...so you're saying that by thinking the world will end in 2012, people will just not give a fuck, thus creating social disorder that actually creates the destruction of society and the end of the world? That would be quite ironic...but highly improbable. Of course, what you're saying makes sense, and brings me to think of some humorous things about humans. However, this scenario might only work if say, all world leaders and their congresses and such believed it to a large extent, as well as corporate leaders and businesses. You know, they would create a stock market crash that would shake the whole world and etc. People might starve, leaving them to do a lot of bad things...

      Pretty good thought though.

i agree with Alric. Normal people would have to be really really convinced to do things like that.

you never know, its still a few years away,a lot can happen and the minority of belivers might turn to the majority...
or maybe theres just simply not enough people to make this theory plausable.

a lot can happen in a few years.

People can't predict the future but they can make assumptions. I believe in the Armageddon theory but things change, logics change, I highly doubt it will be in the date he presumed... Maybe it will be before maybe it will be after, but keep one thing in mind. Humans are the ones the destroyed the ozone layer of this planet, and the blindess will cause their downfall.

the zone layer naturally regenerates itslef constantly and the hole in the ozone layer has been around as long as the ozone layer itself. It naturally moves and sways and mostly rests on the poles.

Our unatural heat of lighting and cities would change that. Duh... Not only will our resources diminish, but our ozone layer will eventually break down letting the sun melt the poles creating doom for us all!

Earth is becoming more and more unatural as we speak.

Since the beggining of time people fear change and evolution. The world cant be anytthing but natural. WHy exclude us? The world is changin rapidly but that is part of the natural process. Maybe part of the natural process is to grow and then for all of the planet to undergo an armageddon. Its still natural and part of the mysterious ways of the universe.

You can fear change or embrace it. It's inevitable.

      Your right... my bad.

Time can not come with out inevitability. I was just saying that in human definition, technology is not natural. While anything in the flow of the universe is.

Actually, the latest studies suggest that the hole in the ozone is actually regenerating itself for the first time since we began observing it. Things are looking up...

As for the whole "End of the World in 2012" theory...I wouldn't worry. Remeber Y2K? Gameover is right, every generation worries that the world is about to end, but obviously its still here.

Man, I was really hoping for another Dark-Age....

Well which is impossible now because of the internet, so the cultural/science loss would not happen.

Yeah, you'd have to have a big world explosion to get every last peice of decent information.

But anyway; just thought I'd mention good ol' probably fictional John Titor (look it up on google). He says the global warming thing never becomes a problem:

Actually, the latest studies suggest that the hole in the ozone is actually regenerating itself for the first time since we began observing it. [/b]
So that could be the turning point of that fixing. Oh well, it will be immensely intresting to see if everything he says turns out true. Defintely so. If it does, then you can bet somehow time travel is real....

No offence to anyone on here but I never heard of any of that 2012 stuff except for from people on this forum. Which to me says, no one really cares.

It's simple then. I mass-pile nuclear weapons at the Earth's magnetic poles, and detonate them, resulting in a mass gravitational disturbance that will send us into another ice-age. That, or I destroy thousands of miles of ice and rocks, and create a strangely shaped Earth.

I'm longing for something to happen already. I'm more optimistic about the whole 2012 thing - rather than being armageddon (providing anything happens at all), I'm hoping for a global fulfillment of some kind. I think it will be a breakthrough to a new, better way of life.

Has anyone seen Super Size Me? The movie about the guy who eats nothing but Mcdicks for a month? Near the end they showed an artist's "conception" of Ronald McDick's gravestone, and for the time of life, it was 19something - 2012. Death of capitalism was the idea, I suppose?

If the post-captilist anarchy is not "togetherness" form, then maybe the end of the world will come....eh i dunno.

If people get hyped up over y2k, people will run around with no pants and buy an unbelievable amount of water in 2012.

Y2K was an opportunity for businesses to cash in on fear.

Y2k was a big thing, this isn't. This is like the thing 3 months or something before y2k that people never talked about again.

I just found it funny how scared some people were - a friend of mine was convinced that his fridge and oven would stop working
