Thread: 2012 Mass Panic?

well for me i do not beleve in the "end of the world" (the earth is round duh) but i blelive in "the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT" i have heard this one alot "bla bla bla the end of the world as we know it yada yada bla bla..." i take this as one the 2012 if it is based on the mayan civilization the world as we know it will be gone giving us unlimited possibliitys

1. "The great flood possibility" there could be a great flood purging the world of evil.

2. "Return of Christ possibility" this could change the world as we know it for sure

3. "Nuke possibility" we could have a nukular war

4. "Alien contact possibility"
A. this could cause world wide panic and they could rampage cities to rubble
B. we gain a giant leep in knowleage from them

5. "cure possibility" We find the a cure for cancer or parkinsons or other desises like them

.... as you can see there could be many ways to change the world AS WE KNOW IT.

I bet on that fateful day in 2012, I will have no clean pants anywhere in my dorm, therefore causing mass panic, and forcing me to go down to the laundry room in *gasp* dirty pants..

And yes, that would change the world as we know it.

The Panic may also be caused by increased military tensions near the year 2012--reposition of forces near crucial targets, biological attacks in other countries, etc. Maybe even similiar "Patriot Acts" in other coutries. Maybe 2012 may bring revolution...

But yeah; even though I of course welcome all forms of praise to myself (who wouldn't?) We have gone off topic...we're chronic off topicers on Dreamviews, but Philosphy has pretty much always done an excellent job at staying serious. Anyway, it could be the goverment step in and lean heavily on the press to make sure that they don't incite fear and/or cash in on the 2012 thing. While it defintely seems like a radical step for a goverment to take in some cases, if it was required to keep law and order and no mass revolt, then I am sure that they would do it, along with one of those mass-mailings where they mail you a leaflet explaining everything (Like they did with the Y2K thing, outlining stuff like "Nothing's going to happen" and "You can't dodge your taxes this way").

i think everyone has the wrong idea about 2012. i dont think its about the-end-of-the-world ... i think its more of an end of THIS world (or reality) and the ascencion or evolution into the next stage of existance, or dimension, which will be a non-physical reality. i believe the people who are ready for this (maybe spiritually aware people and such) will evolve, and the ones who are not will continue on the physical plane of existance, or the physical will no longer exist. if you read prophecies from every religion and philosphy, and DONT TAKE IT LITERALLY but more symbolically, they all lead to this

:| I doubt that. If you look at the world today, crime runs rampant and personally if I was to walk out into the street at night then I'd probably get kidnapped. Wars happen over nothing, and basically everything is in a right state. If on 2012 the clouds part and suddenly god gives them a gift of eternal love, they'll probably start shooting at it.

i think it will be more like, those ready will realise that "gods eternal gift of love" was always with them. we already have the eternal gift, we just choose to ignore it. thats what "awakening" or enlightenement is. realising there is no external god judging or loving you. the only one capable of tragedy or miracles is your self.

and thats why the year 2012 will be like any other, but i know now already there will be some fools among the worlds population who will (indeed) believe this so much they will go mad.

and i think why so many people "believe" in it, is because it is just a few years away...

2012 was never about the apocalypse, where does that come from? 2012 is the end/beginning of the Maya long-term calendar, based on the movement of the stars. There is a movement to change our Gregorian calendar to a 13 Moon calendar, one of many that the Mayas used. It is believed this will change our equating of time as money to a more natural time as art. The League of Nations tried to change it in 1933, but the Vatican wouldn't allow it.

Even if this prophecy is correct, it does not mean that the world will end on Dec 21, 2012. It would be a gradual change up to that date where then we would be on a natural time with the universe rather than a mechanical, man-made time.
