Question: What would you prefer: Getting your throat cut over by a group of people. let's say terrorists... or being buried alive?

If you ask me there is no doubt about it, I would much rather be buried alive, than to be brutally murdered.

      And here are my reasons:

      1. I would like to know what is going on, and have the time and opportunity to think things over one last time before I go.

      2. I wouldn't like to be brutally murdered by a group of people.

      3. I would like to be alone.

I guess that's it. The thing is that I think it is important to recognize and maybe even appreciate the fact that sooner or later your life will end.

And when it happens, no matter how soon, I believe that I am prepared to go.

The question above isn't as obvious as it might seem, people have very different opinions on this I think.

To be honest, I think I'd rather be burried alive as well, but yikes, both very uncomfortable ways of dying . I agree though, if you're so close to death, I think you'd be able to quickly set aside the uncomfortableness and pain of it all and have some peaceful final thoughts.

Well, both are very bad ways of dying, but you know, the burning alive might not enable one to have those "last minutes of brain activity after death". I mean, after you're dead, there's still some brain activity for quite a while (10 minutes I think) and that's where those "near death experiences" come from. Bascally a massive head-trip before everything is just over. I would like to have that, so I don't want to die in a way where my brain is destroyed (for a little while at least). Kinda hard to explain. But I don't want to be killed by a bunch of idiot terrorists either, so I can't really choose...

edit: oops, I read the previous post wrong, it was buried, not burned... well, it's still a difficult choice.
      Yay, I posted.

Hehe, the alternative was being BURIED alive. I wouldn't want to be burned alive either.. like you said: It wouldn't exactly give you the chance of some final, peaceful thoughts if you're in an Inferno of flames and your flesh is burning...

But if I'd have to choose between the burning and the throat cutting, I think I'd have to go with the throat. Cause I seem to remember from the discovery channel that burning is the worst kind of pain, and it might take a little longer..?

But it is a difficult question..

But anyway, I think I would be buried alive over mostly anything..

You would probably faint before you start to choke anyway, since you'll be re-breathing your own air.

I think people fear death because it is the ultimate uncertainty, that's the reason Religion, Science, and Philosophy were created, to eliminate uncertainty. Am I afraid of death? No. I am afraid of pain, but not of death. Once you realize that nothing is certain then death doesn't seem so scary, nothing does really.

Grieving isn't selfish, it's just a product of an emotional addiction to something one can no longer have. Better than bottling it up and ignoring it. It's just good to know when enough is enough and that life must go on. Ignoring the needs of the body and loved ones is what is selfish, not the grieving process itself.

I think there's a good chance that we go on. If we don't then why did we exist in the first place? So we start with nothing, continues with nothing and end with nothing. It doesn’t make any sense that there is something in the first place. If that were true then once upon a time there was nothing and then there was something and then there will be nothing again. Maybe forever. It does not make any sense; it is harder to believe we came from nothing and going back. It’s easier for me to believe we came from something and that there is a purpose. If no purpose then why not chaos.

I belive that we will just die, and that will be the end of us. Why fear death, Its not like we wil even know that were dead, alive, or anything. Your brain will be shut down and we will cease to exist.

A fear of death is irrational; if there isn't an afterlife, then you will cease to exist and thus have no fear (nor anything at all; memories, emotions, it will all be wiped clean). If you believe in an afterlife (as I do), then I'm sure it is nothing to fear.

A fear of the path to death is rational; a third of us will be fighting a harrowing battle against cancer whilst others will be suffering from old age.

      Ditto.

It's not being dead that scares most people...it's getting dead that doesn't seem so appealing.

I like what Woody Allen said regarding death:-

"I am not afraid of death, I just don't want to be there when it happens".

"I was looking back to see if you were looking back at me to see me looking back at you".
