At first I didn't recognize the correlation between religion and weed but I just realized
      Religion/weed=escapism
I think we should burn religion and leave it behind, what characteristics are worth holding on to?
also Taosaur's avatar is an incense stick burning I thought it was a jelly fish too

And in the ashes, there will be a few jewels of wisdom (mostly from Buddhism and Taoism. But really the mystics of any school) that stand on their own. We can pick those up and appreciate them for what they are with no recourse to children's stories.

I believe in time (Judeo-Christian) religion will be regarded as mythology, in other words a cultural/historic curiosity and not a source for knowledge or morality.
      I guess I'm a pessimist

Pessimist? Hardly. I'd call this a realistic view, based on the past. We don't believe in Zeus anymore, do we now?

Maybe we should just burn everything and completely start over with stoner philosophy

all hail the sacred Doritos bag.

Really, burning all knowledge is a bad idea. Consider the loss of the Library of Alexandria - we'd only consider that negative, right? Knowledge and ideas should be ignored if wrong or misguided, but never destroyed or completely disregarded. At the least, they will tell us something about those who thought them.

We are dealing with the consequences of worshiping things(includes money, weed, etc) over people right now. Although I enjoy a bowl after work from time to time weed isn't really worthy of starting a religion around. Maybe love and a reverence for life would be a better alternative? I could swear Ive heard(read) you talking about that in another thread.

Don't destroy the mythology, simply because it's very connected with culture. Just lower it to a level where people stop being apologetic towards it and claim it as factual.

I agree, we just need look at stories as stories not real events. If they convey a meeaning or moral that's great, but no need to pretend impossible things happend. And we should stop worshiping things altogether, it's silly.

How long do you guys think it will be before the judeo-christian mythology is viewed as mythology rather than facts? I feel like we're still a long way off, at least 500 years.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

Its already happening. There are plenty of christians who don't take the bible literally and view it as a collection of stories that teach us how to live morally.

I suppose, but there are still plenty who believe in miracles and angels and whatnot.

Yes but once so called miracles are analyzed critically they fall apart and the internet expedites this process of falsification.

Jediism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well for the most part that's true, about miracles, but some people are so stuck in their cultural reality tunnel that they refuse to analyze it critically. Other people really want to believe in miracles so while they'll accept that that particular miracle is false they still believe that they are possible.

It's quite possible that in the next 50 years the majority of people will stop believing in nonsense but I think it's a long way of before all or even most people will.

Agreed people will believe what they want but the least I can do is plant the seed of doubt. That might sound kinda sinister but I have good intentions after all I wouldn't be who I am if all my closely held beliefs were never scrutinized and challenged. Confrontation has helped me grow and for that I am thankful. I haven't heard anyone use reality tunnel in a conversation in a long time, you must be a Robert Anton Wilson fan.

yeah big time, probably my favorite author.

As Einstein said, The important thing is to not stop questioning. I try to plant seeds of doubt as well even if they don't usualy sprout.

I think for the most part people have a hard time filtering out the mythology from reality and the manipulation from the truth.

And no one would be able to find their keys. Cannabis is lovely now and then, but living on it diminishes awareness, which is not fun in the long run.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Keep the religion broad and leave people's lifestyle choices out of it. If someone wants to smoke pot every day then that is their choice. If others don't, that is fine also. If everyone was required to, this world would be hell and we would be in the dark ages again. But this is not an issue worthy of religion. We can create a sect for teenagers or a different mythology for teenagers so that when they outgrow their stoner phase they can go through a rite of passage and learn what is beyond getting stoned. They might be more willing to mature but it would be their choice as to when. There could be holidays though where everybody gets stoned. That might be fun.

We should not deify rationality. Rationality is fine, but it needs the checks and balances of intuition and mysticism, just like those need the checks and balances of rationality. A completely rational world does not exist, and if it did, we would all invent time travel to travel back to this time and do genetic experiments on the present day humans to try to isolate the gene of emotion. Some things are mysteries and will always elude rationality.
