Yeah I wonderd about that. They allsom accept jesus as their lord and savour (or as biggest douche in the universe). Yet they are way different from plain christians.

-

And I think the internet, for them, is a tool of satan.

About weird cult-like christians radicals, I havn't seen any amish around here. Why is that?

Do you think a JW could be open enough to be interested in the phenomenon of dreaming - even lucid dreaming?? idk ..
Don't they interpret the bible always in a very negative - the end time is coming - way? I hear them talk about a cloud that'll appear on the last day of the world .. and they'll be saved ... I also heard they give a lot of money to their church... I had a grandma trying to get me into reading those magazine's when I was working .. she was really just coming out of her house to try to get me into it .. she couldn't even walk right .. weird.
They have this temple in my hometown, too ... there live like 2000 people in this town .. and the JW got a temple here ... and I mean, they call it TEMPLE ...
Religion is curable.

Jehovah's Witnesses, if anything, are MORE Christian that most "modern day" Chrsitians, who tend to read down the bible, or not take parts of it literally, and have accepted the "evolution" of the Christian faith. Christianity has changed a lot since its origins. Jehovah's Witnesses, largely, try to return to that original faith. A large amount of the religion is based around Christ's Second Coming.

With respect to the focus on the literal interpretation of the bible, particularly with relation to the Second Coming, Jehovah's Witnesses are sort of similar to Seventh Day Adventurers (adventists, I cann 'em adventurers to poke fun). But, other than that, the two religions are very different.

I haven't done a whole lot of research on JWs, but I do know that they believe that when Jesus returns, only 144,000 people will be saved / allowed to enter Heaven.

They are a religion that tends to be slandered and there's a lot of urban legends floating around about them, though. Quite similar to Mormons. Neither are as crazy as they tend to be portrayed as, though both do have unique and certainly odd characteristics.

My old adopted newb DewDust was JW, but she hasn't been around in almost a year, I think. Anyway, I've seen a couple of others around here, but not many.

...
I can't resist.

Yeah. I have to agree. It's not the community as a whole, who are usually fairly coureous, helpful and reasonably intelligent. It's just a few select idiots who ruin things.

What I want to know, is how come a thread titled "Who in here is a faithful Jehovah's Witness? Just asking." , and on which the first post is "I haven't seen any JWS here is there any at all?"... how the hell does this generate abuse?

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a militant atheist, and vocal and argumentative. But, have some maturity, guys! There is a time, and a place. Sometimes, people wish to have a peaceable chat without an argument from nutters, whether religious like Leo Volont, or atheist nutters like myself and some others on this forum. In those situations... grow up, and leave them alone? If you want to start your own thread entitled "Jehovah's Witnesses are so frickin stupid" then go ahead and do so.

This is an unmoderated forum, and you are free to express your stupid views as long as you do not insult or abuse other members with stupid names you've probably got from South Park. But, there is simply no freaking NEED to ruin this peaceable thread. I sincerely hope a mod, somehow, comes in and cleans this thread up.

Rest assured, my goal is not to irritate people or to make them cry, my goal is to give them my view of how absurt their way of thinking is. My way to achieve that is irony, sarcasm and such, yes.

Some actual debate is taking place here, if you want a reasonable debate. The christian person that we debated with has left, you are welcome to fill the gap to defend and re-enforce your point of view.

I do find that there are alot of smart people here that offer the oppertunity for good discussions. But yes, it is the internets, there is some 'low' humor every now and then.

I don't see your point. Why are You offended when I call some (in my eyes) fictional character a douche. I don't think the teachings of jesus say that you should hate people for that. Let your gawd decide.

Don't fall for what some people say, sometimes they are not even JWS and they try to lie to people so they can be against JWS but that about the cloud or all this stuff is a lie. And your grandma is just trying to help you plus those magazines are nice they have interesting topics like the magazine AWAKE it talks about a lot of stuff sometimes it has nothing to do with the bible or any of that is just information like any other book, and about the WATCHTOWER that one does talk about the bible content.

I have a few relatives that are Jehovah Witnesses.

They told me that the foundation of the belief is that, after the end of days, the Armageddon (which will come and go almost unnoticed), the only people left on the planet will be those wise enough to have noticed (and survived) the passing of the event (helped by the belief in JC but not required). They will be in charge of creating heaven on earth as the actual heaven cannot by accessed by man.

So, no ascension to heaven, no 144000 beamed to paradise, no “left behind” stuff (though, I guess if you are the only ones left, chosen to stay and create paradise, you are kinda left behind), oh yes, hell is the grave.

I'm a jehovahs witness

if anyone wants explanations to what we really believe than i can tell you.

About lucid dreaming, we have nothing against what the amazing mind can do but just when it comes to spiritism and contacting false gods or spirits we avoid. I think lucid dreaming is awesome.

A synopsis would be good. Life, death, JC and the second coming, the end of days and paradise. Would be nice to have first hand information. I, for one, would like the info. I promise I won't pass any judgment.

We believe that Man was meant to live on the earth forever in paradise just like the original pair in the Garden of Eden.

Also that hell is not a place but it simply means "mankind's common grave," where man is unconscious in death. The word is Hades in Greek but then there is another word called Gehenna used in the bible and this is the worst punishment because it means permanent destruction which means they have no hope for the ressurection like the others who are in Hades. (But it is not eternal suffering) Also we do not believe in an immortal soul. We believe that 144,000 go to heaven only and the reason for this is God's purpose. God mentioned this select number because these will rule over the earth as judges during "the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ." This thousand-year reign is the final judgement which comes after Armageddon. The people who remain faithful will then live for everlasting life in a cleansed peaceful world. We don't believe the "once saved always saved." or that it takes only faith alone to be saved. We believe Jesus was God's first creation which is why Jesus is called God's only-begotten son. (Beget means to cause to exist). We do believe Jesus died for all mankind to free them from sin and that he is appointed by God to be king. We believe Jesus's second coming is very soon. We believe that we are living in "the last days" referred to in the bible and that there is only one more prophecy we are waiting to be fulfilled before the Great Tribulation comes with Armmageddon coming right after.

Thanks for answering some of their questions, I don't know some of the stuff they talk about because I stop attending after I moved and had my baby.

Well, it's a reference to the idea that Joseph Smith, the founder of the Latter Day Saints movement, "translated" the "Book of Mormon" using "magic glasses." Or, something similar.

Yup. They're called the Urim and Thummim, and basically, according to Mormon mythology, are magic glasses that translate text, among other things.

Hmmm. Wait a sec. I seem to remember Urim and Thummim are mentioned in the standard Catholic bible as well...

AH! Gotcha:

1 Samuel 14:41

"O Lord God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant today? If this guilt is in me or my son Jonathan, O Lord God of Israel, give Urim; but if this guilt is in your people Israel, give Thummim."

This appears to make reference to some sort of method of truth-telling or divination. It seems inconsistant with the idea that Urim and Thummim are an actual physical object, such as a pair of glasses. Ah:

Wikipedia on Urim and Thummim, in case anybody is interested.

What I know about Jehova's witnesses:

I know you believe God works through Science, which is cool, and that all those who do not accept your faith will burn for all eternity, which is not cool. Jehova's Witnesses have found where they stand opn an ideological conflict, where does the all knowing idea of live and let live stand against saving someone's soul?

I also know that a requirement of being a Jehova's Witness is that your are a closed-minded dogmatist, they won't let anyone who isn't be in their religion and yet they want everyone they can get to join it. Sounds like a contradiction. Don't worry though, I say the exact same thing about most religions, Jehova's witnesses have a more level-headed belief system with a more boligerant organization, that's the only difference.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.
