That reminds of a keychain I once saw at a novelty shop some time ago.
      It said:

"Lord Save Me From Your Followers."
"dreaming permits each and everyone of us to be
quietly and safely insane every night of our lives."

God favors no groups. For him, everyone is the same - no matter if Nazi, Moslem, Jew, Communist, Rapist etc.
      Okay.

Religion favors groups. For religions, there is a difference between people. Not in their value - others are not necessarily better or worse, but concerning enlightment, position to THE truth etc.
If there was this one "universal god" like in the quote - how could there be so many different religions (way of practice, dogmas, rituals etc.)?
Because of so many different thinking/believing people? Did they make up the religions?! Or how is it to be explained, that (it is said) there was a Jesus - sent by god, and Mohammed, also sent by god (both being way different with practicing/believing in their religion/god)?
How could they come from the same god? And what about all the other views of the world claiming to know something of the way to get closeŽ to god (truth), the one they can hold onto and feel secure with...

So what are you trying to say? - There is a universal god, and all religions are made up? Or: There are a lot of gods, every religion has, pretty much, its own? Or: god tricked us and now we have a lot of religions, made by god?!
      Religion is curable.

I agree, very true indeed. The politics of religion are what make it unappealing to me, not the spiritual aspect. Any religion that muddles in anything other than god and morality is overstepping it's boundaries, IMO.

As far as Slight's post goes, I think I'll do the lazy thing and play the transcendentalist card. We can never know the true nature of god, whether there are many or one or none, and so all we have to work with is how it affects man. It doesn't seem to me like god would have any reason to favor groups. Red ants and black ants on my driveway all get burned alive with the same magnifying glass. I'll never know how god plays with his ants, but I do know that the red and black ants killing each other over their opinions on the nature of he who burns them is a bit silly and ultimately futile. It yields no answers, only shifts paradigms. And whether the black ant or red ant philosophy is king at noontime when I go out to play makes no difference to me whatsoever.

That is very true in the end I think God hates us all equally
Life dreams and pain are all of the same thing in one way or another they are all unreal as they are existant they define the way you see things something very few can figure out

i think religion has been hijacked by politicians. looking at the supposed teachings of jesus, for instance, there seem to be many more people still buying into the whole money=absolution (which happened a long time ago in europe, but i can't find the details on wikipedia) instead of the notion that the entire religion can be summed up by "love everyone else as if they were you...because they are you." if that one rule is followed there is no need for anything else.

It reminds me of the Apparition of Our Lady in Medjugorje Hersegovina.

She pointed out that the person in the villiage closest to being an actual Saint was So'n'so, who turned out to be an Islamic Woman. Well, that cause a great feror and everything supposed that this Apparition from Heaven must have misspoken.

But She explained that apart from whatever the Catholic Diocese might think, that regarding the Status of the various Saints, God has His own Criteria.
