      Is this for real?

      http://www.i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=24299

Seriously, is this footage for real? I mean, it looks more badass with the music and editing and everything, but do they really have conventions like this? Are people seriously this brainwashed? It looks more like a (badly) acted TV show to me.

Don't mean to offend anyone, I'm just saying that I don't understand this sort of thing so if someone can explain this, that would be great.

To some it is real. To those who are conducting it, it is like a magic trick. Its an act that becomes more believable because the people in the audience want to believe. There is a mob mentality that builds because everyone there feels like they want to be a part of something. Beliefs are powerful.

It's shocking how many stupid, easily manipulated, and brainwashed people there are out there. I also find it hard to believe that this crap exists, but it really does.

Yeah I've seen similar demonstrations (ha, Borat, anyone?? :p).

I wouldn't call them brainwashed, I'm pretty sure these are all regular people (well maybe except for the evangelist guy). It's all the power of hypnosis. The people who go up on stage are already expecting to fall over because they think this guy wields some God-given power. So when they get up there and the evangelist does his thing, they fall over. They either pretend to or they trick themselves into thinking they've actually been touched by something divine.

Or whatever. What is the purpose of them fainting like that btw?

Edit: Ooh I had to watch the beginning again. Hehe I love when the song fits so well.

Oh god. I really want to go to one now.

Edit edit: Anyway, in the end these conventions have positive effects on most people who attend. I mean it's a positive, liberating experience that unites you with your fellow (believer) man.

      Hahah!
That's so funny! With the music it all looks like some epic battle between the zombies and some person-guy.

That is real and I think it's some religious "spirit goes through you and knocks you off your feet" thing. The funny thing is Derren Brown did the same thing, showing us that it's just psychological tricks, hypnosis and stuff like that.

Edit: The link is fixed. But you could have just clicked the video response under the 1st part.

The link Burns posted is about the people falling back and raising their arms. Stuff like that, edited to look funny.

My links are of a "mind controler" Derren Brown doing the same thing.

It's fake, you can totally see the wires. Wire-Fu!!!

Seriously, this looks more like an Aikido demo than a religious event. It's like Stephen Segal's out there beating the shit out of all those people.

It's amazing that nobody's ever gone into one of those with a hidden camera and made sure not to react/flinch. I bet they wouldn't get out alive (it's the devil, get him, my monkeys).

Personally I suspect there are unbelievers in that audience already who succumb to that "holy spirit" mumbo jumbo all the same. I think that I myself in that situation, standing in a crowd of people who are all tumbling over wave after wave, would probably fall too. Touched by god? No. Trying to win favor with my evangelical buddies? No. Overridden by a reptile brain that sees thousands of people doing something which then decides for me that I'm damn well going to do the same? Hell yeah. Groupthink and the concensus of a majority hold a far stronger subliminal hold over us than we might think.

      It's still retarded, though.

BURNS, Oh no! You've crossed over into the religion/spirituality forum!!! You were so innocent....

Heh, well that was amusing. I don't get one thing, though: do they screen the people before letting them in? I mean, you know there's people out there (ehem... like you know who) that would love to get in there, and once on stage totally just stand there and not even flinch at this a-hole's gestures. Or maybe bitch-slap the guy right back - hasn't anyone done that yet?

Yeah I just saw that today. I found it to be extremely hilarious. How he actually knocks people 'out' with his first.

It's all the power of suggestion (the reason they drop to the floor like ragdolls).

And one of the most stupid forms of religion.

You shouldn't bash it quite so much, I mean it looks like a pleasant and spiritual experience (even if at the end of the day it's fake).

Yeah, it's great to mesmerize people in such mass-hysterias. And for 'god' sake, there probably are children there. Like with that documentairy, 'jesus camp'. Real 'fun' to have children pledge crying how they will do everything for jesus, what happens to be exactly what they minister says.

Getting people together in large groups, and work them like this is the most vonerable and suggestive you can get a mind. Really, if you look up the great book of "how to brainwash", stuff like this will extremely probably be in that book.

I personally don't approve of religions or any form of system of ideas that appears to have the need to spread like this, working in on people when they are the sheepyest of sheepy.

Well I didn't see any children there, and I didn't see anyone hysterically crying. I'm just trying to have an open mind here. I doubt these people attend these conventions as regularly as they do church. And I doubt they remain "brainwashed" afterwards.

      Haha.

If you want to win souls for your chuch, and keep them, what better way to trick them into 'feeling god/jesus/allah/vishnu/satan/easterbunny'.

I mean, this isn't even fate on an intellectual level, it is just purely on an emotional and happy-together-feeling level.

      -

Anyhow. If people are stupid enough to believe god communicates to people by letting some ADH guy pushing them over, that's with me... at least it would be, if they would be declared mentally retarded and not capable of voting ^__^

I agree that it's a positive experience for these people.

THAT is not what disturbs me. What DISTURBS ME...is that people are so effing easily hypnotized, brainwashed, manipuated...or whatever you want to call it.

These crazy people all vote by the way. That scares me. I mean, it's so easy to convince these people of anything. This is why we have so many ignorant people in this country who haven't the slightest idea about what's really going on in the world, let alone the destruction that our country is causing around the globe.

      This....is America. Cheers.

Well a lot of people are easily hypnotized. A lot of normal, intelligent people.

I agree, but might have phrased that "A lot of normal, otherwise intelligent people."

You guys are so cruel!! :p

I bet if I put all the repliers of this thread on a stage somewhere and had someone try to hipnotize you all, most of you would fall for it. Granted you would have to go there not consciously fighting it like some stubborn smart-ass. :p

Well, I'm not trying to be cruel. It's just my opinion that allowing yourself to fall for this is not intelligent behavior.

Perhaps I could be hypnotized. Maybe even someone could make me fall over or get the shimmy-shimmies. But there's nothing that guy could do to me to make me come back the next week for more, and that's all the difference in the world.
