I was doing some wiki reading on OBEs...which led me to astral projecting...which led me to a page on Eckankar: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eckankar ...which I found to be extremely interesting. I was wondering if there are any Eckists on the forum, or anyone who knows anything about this religion. I guess it's the astral projecting, etc. that got me interested in it, since I believe I've had experiences with AP.

I've heard of it, but never really knew what it was. Thanks for this, its pretty interesting. Though, to me it doesnt seem like an actual "religion" per se. Just the way its said to be run. Though that just may be the way its written on wikipedia. Though pretty interesting nonetheless

i'm superficially familiar with it.

my mom's best friend (as a child) became an eckist. i met her a year or two ago. she has even written literature for (on) eckankar, though i cannot remember her name, or book titles.

we didn't get too in depth in converstation about it, or anything else. but i was unusually impressed by the lightness with which she carried her beliefs...none of those grating "i am a carrier of absolute truth" vibrations.

she had exceptionally shining eyes...and you could feel the love and undivided attention when she spoke with you.

p.s. i would love to hear about your potentially astral experiences, as such accounts are invariably fascinating.

if you have recorded any of them online, a link would be much appreciated...or if not, no worries.

Honestly, never heard of it, but I'm not surprised something like that exists. I've definitely experienced many an OBE that would have me question the validity of anything I experience.

Been to the realm of sound with visuals many of a time.

Thank you for the link, that was very interesting. I had never heard of this movement before, but I will surely seek more information about it, since as many I am interested in OBEs.

I still have one of Paul Twichell's books that I got in the very early 80's. Check your local area for an Eck group if you are interested in their philosophy and practice. There are quite a few groups across the country that remain active. You can check out writings by Robert Bruce as well if you are interested in the OBE experience.
What a long, strange trip it's been.

Thanks for the feedback. ^_^ I am interested in it...but I'm still not really into joining any sort of organized religion. I just find it all very interesting...like...the existence of "universal knowledge" that can be found on higher astral planes and such.

Ive never had a OBE or a AP before. Something I found really intertesting is in my religon (i'm muslim) they say that when you fall asleep you soul leaves your body and floats above you. And when you die your soul leaves your body also

Eckankar is a cult that is based, as far as I can tell, largely on plagiarism despite wikipedia's claim that this has been refuted.

I've found a website that lists all of Twitchell's (creator of Eckankar) plagiarisms and gives examples of the text as compared to the original copied text. Take a look here.
