      "Once saved, Always saved"? Hmm...

I read somewhere that people who accept Jesus as their savior once are always saved, and that brought up some questions.

When I was little (like, 7 through 12), I was a Christian because my parents were. During that time, I did the little "accepting Christ" thing multiple times. At that time, I did this so often because I didn't believe that God cared about me since I was always miserable in school. Later in life, I got some sense, and when I was 13 and given the option to stop going to church, I did so. Over a spiritual journey the next few years, I rediscovered myself and became a New Age Atheist very happily.

So, do I still have that lifetime guaranty, or is it taken back? Not that I really care that some "God" is going to be mad at me for not believing in him, I just need to know. You know, to shoot back at the people who tell me I'm going to Hell.

Good question. This was highly debated between people I hung out with when I was a teen. I was a highly devoted Christian until 17 in which I really felt "god's presence" and went to Christian camps and youth group every Wednesday and Sunday. Now I am, like yourself, a pretty firm atheist (simply because that is where the evidence points). I was always told by my parents once saved, always saved. So I guess either I'm going to go back to god some day (not very likely) or they were wrong.

Oh yeah, or salvation is bullshit. Which is where my money is going.

If that's the case, that means I'm saved. Then I can be an atheist without care, great

I remember hearing somewhere that the only way you absolutely can't go to heaven is if you deny the existence of the holy spirit or some such nonsense.

To seriously approach this question one must first get at defining just what "accepting Christ" is , what the term "Christ" is itself, and what "heaven" and Hell" both are.

I have been baptised so I get into heaven for free. I also did the nessasray things for Hinduism, Islam and Judiasm so I can get into heaven if those happen to be right too. I'm a paranoid atheist.

As an attempting practicer of Buddhism I have to remind myself of buddhist law weekly in order to make sure the ideas remain systemized. So a ccording to those ideas, I think church attending born agains probably much more pious. But then again I don't really believe one can be Saved just by realizing a higher power than themselves. Being saved is letting go of hateful behavior

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

What I think the biblical Authors were saying about acceptance is that it equals belief so as long as you are a believer no sin that you can commit will keep you from being saved.

Do not Catholics believe that if you accept God and Jesus right before you die, no matter what atrocities you have committed in live, you will be saved?

Technicalities on your different beliefs of what it takes to be "saved" which is another term for whatever it takes to gain access to a plentiful life after death.

I've heard that many a time that once saved, always saved... I was baptised when I was a baby, and I was "saved" years ago.

So now I can be Agnostic and still loophole my way through Christianity just in the offchance that it is true? Sweet. Reigions really need to think these things over if they want to maximize power and profit. And I'm sure you want to do that don't you Mr. Christianity? I thought so. Like you don't have enough already.

I read it. It is of no consequence or relevance to me which is why I did not respond to it.

      The first bit.

He's buddhist. His definition of what it takes to get "saved" is going to be different than a Christian's. Which is explained in the first sentence somewhat.
