Seriously. Actually if you look at it as far as the history of the planet goes religion is not that old at all. Compared to the history of the planet all religion and even all of morality is still in it's infancy because humans are still in their infancy. Of course if you mean that the topic is getting rather dry and boring to debate I entirely agree. I am a christian and even I get sick of debating religion on every now and then. I would rather discuss science or art.

And the belief of no Gods is older still. no gods->spirits/ghosts->gods->godhead->no gods Myth, ritual and spirituality are pretty old, religion as it were comes a little later as egalitarian hunter gatherer groups turn into tribes and bands and eventually states. No leaders, atheism; council of leaders, polytheism; one leader, monotheism. It's all politics. If only we could get past all that god business altogether.

Christianity simply means to be like Jesus. Many people have used faiths, and manipulated them for their own benefit.

Who said God came from hope? Theology. The first known god, the sun god Horus, was worshipped for hope that the crops, and civilization flurished. Gods were a supernatural being which were everywhere, and can be looked apon when they no longer had a hand in them.
