What about energy? |

materialism: a theory that physical matter is the only or fundamental reality and that all being and processes and phenomena can be explained as manifestations or results of matter. |
|
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Can it be explained as a manifestation or result of matter? If you believe the two are interchangeable, I would think that counts as a yes, but it's your call. |

Yes, substituting "Matter" with "Energy" would make more sense to me... |

Has anyone observed anything that wasn't made of matter or energy? |

- Are you an idiot?
- No sir, I'm a dreamer.
Matter is made of energy. |

Isn't conciousness simply a complex way to control stimuli response? |
|
And deterministic is? |
|
Action-reaction, basically the entire universe (excepting consciousness). |
|
- Are you an idiot?
- No sir, I'm a dreamer.
But conciousness IS action-reaction |
|
Well there isn't. |

Who voted "no" in the poll? |

First define "Fee Will". |

Webster to the rescue: |

- No sir, I'm a dreamer.
Guys, there's a dumpster full of determinism/free will threads out back |

Meh. |

- Are you an idiot?
- No sir, I'm a dreamer.
Then free will does exist. |
|
So are you saying it exists or it doesn't? |
|

Wow, I'm pretty out of the loop. I've always heard that materialism is the belief that material possessions bring happiness, or something to that effect. It was a subject a Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. |

My answer is yes, though I can't exclude say, a 4th dimension where matter acts different than in the 3rd dimension. |
