Hi guys. Good to see the flames still burning in R/S.

UM - I would say that it is perhaps not the actual 'believing' which is the choice, but rather the choice rests with you to seek all you can.

      You could argue that you have done all the required seeking and that it would be Gods fault and you're gonna stick with the beliefs you have - but, as a smart chap once said;

      Ignorance is not a defense.

That's like saying you didn't know about a law, and thus must be excused from the consequences of breaking it.

      It is written; A gossip betrays a confidence;
so avoid a man who talks too much.
      ( Proverbs 20:19 *NIV )

Unfortunately, almost every Church has a gossip one must
deal with. Sadly to say sometimes they even run new members
off. They should remember that our Savior, Jesus Christ said,
"Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn
not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and
you will be forgiven. ( Luke 6:37 )

Therefore today's message is about the way a new Church
member handled the Church gossip. This is a little story I heard about how one church goer handled gossip and I hope it will make you laugh as it did me.

Sarah, the Church gossip and self-appointed arbiter of the
Church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's
business. Now several members were unappreciative of her
activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused George,
a new member of being an alcoholic, after she saw his pickup
parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon.

She commented to George and others that everyone seeing
it there would know what he was doing. However, George, a
man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just walked
away. He didn't explain, defend or deny--he said nothing.
However, how fitting it was that later that evening, George
quietly parked his pickup in front of Sarah's house and left it
      there all night.......

That is why any kind of belief system that requires 'faith' is bad, as it requires you to disregard logic and evidence to support a specific idea no matter what.

      It is written:
In six days the Lord made the heavens
and the earth, the sea, and all that is in
them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath
      day and hallowed it.
      ( Exodus 20:11 *NKJV )

Today we will look at who changed the
day of Worship from Saturday, as the Ten Commandments
      require, to Sunday.

Now even the Solar calendar used in the time of Moses declared
Saturday as the seventh day. So does our calendar today.
So what changed to make our day of worship the first day
of the week, or Sunday? We must go back in time to about
300 A. D. to find that answer. You see, the Roman Ruler
Constantine, changed the day of worship because
he felt since Christ was resurrected on a Sunday, it was The
Lord's Day, and the best day to worship HIM. Therefore he
ordered all businesses closed on Sunday instead of Saturday.
He also pushed the Church to follow that order as well.
Now they eventually did. Thus Sunday became the day
of worship instead of Saturday, something still followed by
most Churches today. This is another example of man
      changing God's Holy Word.

Now not all that Constantine did was against God's Word.
On the plus side, he was the one that made Christianity legal
by proclaiming "The Edict of Milan." That Edict established
tolerance for all religions including Christianity. He further
gave large sums of money to help the Christian faith become
what it is today. So it is not ours to judge him, after all that
job belongs to God, not us.

So, now; You shall know the truth, and the
truth shall make you free." Amen. ( JOHN 8:32 )

      For this God is our God for ever and ever;
He will be our guide even to the end.
      ( Psalms 48:14 *NIV )

When we ask for God to lead us, He will, for He has
promised us; I will instruct you and teach you
in the way you should go; I will counsel you and
      watch over you. ( Psalms 32:8 )

After all it isn't easy trying to live a righteous life in this
      World, and never was. Even the Apostle Paul complained;
I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot
carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want
to do; no, the evil I do not want to do this I keep
      on doing. ( Romans 7:18-19 )

So, as part of your morning prayer each day, why
not ask God to lead you? For He is waiting for you with
      open arms!

This message reminds me of a poster I once saw. I will
share it with you right now, and hope that you enjoy it and
perhaps have a laugh or two as I did!

      Dear Lord
      So far today, God, I've
      done all right.
      I haven't gossiped, haven't
      lost my temper,
      haven't been greedy,
      grumpy, nasty, selfish
      or over-indulgent.
      I'm really glad about that.
But in a few minutes, God,
      I'm going
to get out of bed, and from
      then on
      I'm probably going to
      need a lot more help!

rofl!! That last one was GREAT!
I watched "Fiddler on the Roof" for the first time yesterday, and I got a laugh at the way the main character kept shooting glances heavenward as if to say "Why? Why me?"

Bah... I can't paraphase the Daily Text, so instead of being tempted, I'll share parts from a couple other books I have "Finding God in the Broken Places" and "Overcoming Fear". Both are from "Women of Faith Study Guide Series".
Scriptures used are from the New King James Version, The Message, and from The Holy Bible, New International Version.

Chapter One is titled "Outside my comfort zone" with the scripture
"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of slef-discipline"- 2 Tim. 1:7

The chapter speaks about things which might make a person anxious or apprehensive such as public speaking, spiders or flying in an airplane. She speaks about how she overcame a fear of flying.

The third question she asks readers is:
"3. Take a moment to read Psalm 91:5-10. Reflecting on this passage, make a list of the types of fears mentioned. What would be the modern equivalent of these fears for you?

      4. As you study Psalm 91:5-10, it's important to note that God never promises that fears and even real danger will not come. What does he promise instead? Why is it so important to put your faith in God?

Not only does fear limit your ability to place your faith in God, but if left unchecked, fear can also actually cause you to pull back from your relationship with God, to choose to sin, and miss out on God's best for your life."

The moon marks off the seasons, and
the sun knows when to go down.
      ( Psalms 104:19 *NIV )

Autumn is one of my favorite seasons of the year.
For,Then the land will yield its harvest, and
God, our God, will bless us, with the beautiful
      colors of Fall. ( Psalms 67:7 ) This is because;
He has made everything beautiful in its
      time. ( Ecclesiastes 3:11 )

After all, "As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest, cold and heat,
summer and winter, day and night will
      never cease." ( Genesis 8:22 ) Thus God's
beautiful creation is with us all year long, and
blessing us in every season with colors galore!

Have a Wonderful Day and may it be filled
      with peace!

These things I have spoken to you,
that in Me you may have peace. In the
world you will have tribulation; but be
of good cheer, I have overcome the
      world."
      ( John 16:33 *NKJV )

Now in this World today, there are times when we may
feel overwhelmed by what is going on all around us. After
all with terrible disasters, wars and terrorist's threats, etc
happening, it is enough to make one wonder what is
      happening to this World today.

If all of these events cause you to feel overwhelmed, and the
tribulation in this World is weighing heavily on your mind,
remember that God is always with you, and these events are
unfolding as prophesied. Also remember that our Savior Jesus
Christ said, "Let not your heart be troubled; you
believe in God, believe also in Me. ( John 14:1 ) For when we put all of our trust in Jesus'
hands, we will find peace; He Himself is our peace,
      ( Ephesians 2:14 )

      Finally, whatever things are true,
whatever things are noble, whatever things
are just, whatever things are pure, whatever
things are lovely, whatever things are of good
report, if there is any virtue and if there is
anything praiseworthy meditate on these things.
(Philippians 4:7) and you will know true peace as you have
never known it before. Amen, Amen Indeed!

Was this the thread supposed to be E-Book of the Bible or am I missing something?
Jujutsu is the gentle art. It's the art where a small man is going to prove to you, no matter how strong you are, no matter how mad you get, that you're going to have to accept defeat. That's what jujutsu is.

Then don't kid yourself. If he doesn't post anymore, someone else will, and they won't be thanking you either.

I quess your expectation was incorrect then.
Devotion can also mean insanity, depending on the object of the devotion. I just had to comment since this thread seems pretty much your own monology, which no one else understands or particularly cares of.

I think you mean, YOU don't care. I understand what he's saying, and I think it was a good thought.

Listen davej, if you really wanna have a nice devotional thread without intrusion from these people, you're just going to have to ignore them.

      Remember the motto:

If you guys are going to come and try to ruin davej's nice devotional thread, you will be ignored, by me anyway.

Davej, I suggest that you do the same. Don't stoop so low as to argue with someone who is trying to make you mad.

EDIT: Also, do you think that you could start listing these texts from the KJV?

      Love the picture, Noogah
The KJV is copyrighted in GB?
The version I use, the New World Translation, is copyrighted. But we can still post the Scriptures. We just can't make it in other forms and charge people for it (We give Bibles to people for free).

Anyhow, this thread wasn't rezzed, Dave has things to do and can't be here every day and my internet connection has been splotchy so I've not been here for awhile.

I have nothing to post at this time, but I've enjoyed reading the thread

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn
us, we have confidence toward God.
And whatever we ask we receive from
Him, because we keep His commandments
and do those things that are pleasing in
      His sight.
      ( 1 John 3:21-22 *NKJV )

Now would you change the way that you live if you
knew that God knew all of your thoughts, heard all of
your words, and knew all the desires of your heart? Well,
He does for it is written; The Lord knows
the thoughts of man That they are futile.
For He also; knows the secrets of the heart. .
      ( Psalms 94:11 ) & ( Psalms 44:21 )

Now when we try our best to have pure thoughts and
desires and follow the Commandments put forth by
God, we often get our prayers answered. For it is
written; The effective, fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much. ( James 5:16 )

So, when you speak be careful of the words you
use, and keep them soft and sweet. For we are to
always encourage one another and build
each other up, Most of all, always think before you speak so
that; The words of my mouth and the meditation
of my heart be acceptable in Your sight O Lord ,
      my strength and my Redeemer.

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." - Richard Dawkins
