...some of which can be used to justify mass murder moreso than others...

At any rate, I'm not buying the whole "accepting Jesus automatically makes you good" bit. Looking at how hysterical some people get when they talk about God and Jesus, I wouldn't put mass murder in the name of the Lord beyond them. Looking at some of the clips from religious summer camps, I would say that at least 50% of some of the groups would march in the next Crusades if they thought the Lord commanded it of them. Point is, it may work okay for some people, but there are plenty of wackos out there, too.

First of all denying the existence of the Holy Spirit is not the unpardonable sin.Neither is insulting the holy spirit the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.THE blasphemy of the Holy Spirit was witnessing Jesus perform a miracle and attributing that power to Satan instead of the Holy Spirit. This specific blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, the unpardonable sin, cannot be committed today. The only unpardonable sin today is dying in hard-hearted rejection of the salvation that is available through Jesus Christ. God can and will forgive any sin, but His offer of forgiveness is only available in this life.

The Bible i guess you are reading is the New World Translation by The Watchtower society?

      (Romans 6)
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

      (2 Corinthians)
4 For to be sure, he was crucified in weakness, yet he lives by God's power. Likewise, we are weak in him, yet by God's power we will live with him to serve you.

      (2 Timothy 2)
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
      If we died with him,
      we will also live with him;
      12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.

      (John 3)
3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

      You believe
Only a little flock of 144,000 go to heaven and rule with Christ
The 144,000 are born again as spiritual sons of God

      Non- Jehovah's Witnesses Christian Beliefs

      This.

I remember reading that there are only 42,000 saints who get to become rulers of the Kingdom of Heaven, which is on Earth, after the second resurrection.

What does inherit the earth even mean anyway? Is everyone just going to suffer for eternity?

Notice how non of those passages state that we will reign "IN HEAVEN" alongside Jesus. Read Matthew 5:5
"Blesseth are the meek for they shall inherit the Earth" Why would righteous people be in heaven and on Earth at the same time?

Read. Ecclesiastes 9 5 (ASV) American Standard Version
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

Also read the condition of Lazarus after his death. John 11:11-14 (NIW) New International Version.

11After he had said this, he went on to tell them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up."

12His disciples replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better." 13Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

14So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead,

Notice how Jesus never mentioned that after death, Lazarus went to heaven or any other place. He just stated simply that he was sleep. Could he not have explained to the Disciples that he was bringing Lazarus back from heaven? Also do you remember that verse where Lazarus talked about what happened to him after he died?

Where did you read that from? I don't recall this but I would love to take a look at it.

First we recognize that God is the natural owner of this Earth Psalm 24:1.
Seond, those who obey Christ become children of God Galatians 3:27; Hebrews 5:9, and “joint-heirs” with the Lord Romans 8:17.
The Father supplies all our needs Philippians 4:19, we therefore enjoy this Earth and its blessings more than all others.

Errr, I dun think there is a Heaven or Hell. If somebody can point out to me any such passage in the Bible that says the words heaven or hell. Please do. Otherwise Imma just think it's something man made up to scare ppl onto following such religion.

      I really dislike being Catholic.

Um, going to Biblegateway.com and pasting every verse on a relevant topic hardly takes up anytime.

Fucking Christ, Noogah, that's the biggest wall of text I've ever seen. Kudos to your ultimate lack of life.

On-topic, I gotta say that Heaven and Hell make no sense to me. Really? Has anyone ever come back from the dead and told a reliable story? Nope. There are all of those "warm tunnel" bits, but I don't buy it that they ultimately lead to heaven, etc. Take Occam's Razor to it...does it make sense that people travel to a great place we cannot see, nor have ever seen for ourselves? That a matterless form of that individual ascends to heaven or plummets to hell? Wishful thinking, I say.

Yeah you do have way too much time on your hands Noogah.

Yeah but to me, those sentences doesn't really explain what hell and heaven is properly. They're too vague and leave too much for mankind to speculate.

"Isa 5:14 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure"

See, that doesn't even sound like the hell people believe and think it is nowadays.

I'm curious though, if back then they used metaphors and similes. For all we know, hell could be the feeling we get when we're depressed, anxious and guilty. I mean, when somebody goes into a downward spiral it can pretty much feel like hell.

And I'm more inclined to think Heaven is just the sky and everything above it. Not a place of sorts people go there to rest and be rewarded in the afterlife.

But, your post has sparked my interest in the topic of religion again. It may provide me some answers to my insane questions about mankind. So thanks~!

Its easy, he just has to be clever enough to play on God's self-absorbed nature.

Why does the tunnel in the NDE make it "less reliable?" its a universal experience regardless of religious backgrounds?

What NDEs have offered us is great. They create an overall picture of heaven and hell. And if you ask what is heaven and what is hell based solely on NDEs then the answer is, it is what you think it will be. And you go where you think you deserve to go.

The idea behind it, at least from my experience with Christianity, is that when one chooses to accept Jesus Christ as their lord and saviour they've come to grips with the wrongs they've committed and the pain they've inflicted and they've moved past it. I guess it has something to do with the idea that they've reached the maturity level to understand the fact what they've done (in this case, paedophilia) is completely and utterly atrocious, so they're seeking forgiveness for it.

However, all the above text could have been much more easily summarized by imran's quote:

What NDEs have offered us is great. They create an overall picture of heaven and hell. And if you ask what is heaven and what is hell based solely on NDEs then the answer is, it is what you think it will be. And you go where you think you deserve to go.
NDE's offer little to nothing. There is a very great deal we do not know about the human mind; for all we know, the warm tunnel may very well just be a part of the dying process; of the brain shutting down or being revived. The fact that this is a relatively frequent, but not universal, experience, I would not be surprised if this were the case. Very similar results can be achieved from oxygen deprivation, even if the individual is not on the verge of death.

I still see no reason why humans are so special that we get to transcend the physical universe and enter a utopia designed specifically to our needs and desires. Us, tiny insignificant specks of ignorant carbon, sustained on a series of chemical reactions, entitled to some magical realm? Extremely unlikely. The Judeo-Christian sense of the afterlife is even more improbable; you either suffer or get pampered for eternity based on your moral choices. Here's the problem: morality is relative. There is no universal code; it's completely man-made, and varies with the society in which you were raised. And yet somehow, God or the universe sorts people out based on their moral choices, which mostly aren't even a choice, and either sends them to paradise or chucks them into a pit of fire. Really, it sounds more like some fantastic fairy tale invented to keep people behaved. In the end, it doesn't add up.

If all we have to go on for evidence are a few tales telling of a warm tunnel or dead relatives ushering them toward the light, there really isn't any support for any version of the afterlife. Okay, so you have some matching stories. Big whoop. The brain is monstrously complex, and we are only now just beginning to understand how it works. Who knows? Perhaps these fanciful hallucinations are the brain's method of easing the panic one encounters in the face of death. Nobody really knows for sure, of course, but I'm more inclined to go with "poof, game over," rather than "welcome to paradise, fortunate bit of ignorant carbon." Would I love to live on in some sort of afterlife? Absolutely. Is it a probable possibility? As far as we know, it is not.
