      Participants Needed!!

      Lucid Dreaming Study - Effects of Techniques on Lucidity

      Hi all,

      Thank you for taking the time to click on this thread!

      I'm an undergrad at Heriot Watt University, located in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK (this is for reference, do not worry, you don't have to travel anywhere to participate). I'm doing my dissertation on the effects of different types of lucid dreaming techniques to see whether there's any significant effects - whether there's one particular technique that's the most effective.

      If you're interested, I'll be happy to send you an information sheet outlining what it is I require from you. It would also be over a two week period, and is voluntary.

      Reply below if you're interested and I'll PM you details (consent, information sheet, debrief, etc.)

      I just want to thank you for your time and for reading this. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

      Kindest regards,
      Connor

      Hi Connor,

      I think you’re likely to have better turnout for your study if you post a more detailed description of it. I believe it’s standard practice to include a link to a survey and/or a post outlining what will be asked of participants. Not only will making this information public help people decide whether they’re interested without having to inquire, but it makes it clear up front that they won’t be pulled into some kind of scam or other deception. Not so long ago, we had somebody post here with a dubious-sounding research proposal, insisting that everything be carried out via PMs. They proved unwilling or unable to answer even the most basic questions about it, and so people may be justifiably wary about this one without more to go on than you've given above.

      Must you be a frequent lucid dreamer to participate? I'm trying to LD but havent had a lot of success recently.

      Also would like to know a bit more details as LeaningKarst mentioned
      "Lucid dreaming makes us kinder in everyday life. It shows us how our mind creates illusion, which allows us to see how other people's mind do the same. Once we see that, we realize that everybody is trying their best and that we're all in this together. We become a bit more tolerant and responsive, rather than closed and reactive."-Charlie Morley, Author of 'Dreams of Awakening: Lucid Dreaming and Mindfulness of Dream & Sleep'

      Thank you for your response. I can understand why people would feel that way.

      I'll include the debrief and if anyone is interetsed, I'll include the consent forms too.

      You do not need to be an experienced LD to participate.

      Information

      Because I'm unable to include the word document here, I'll have to copy and paste the information, so headers won't appear when they would normally. If you wish to see the original document, I can email it to you.

      DEBRIEF SHEET

      PROJECT TITLE: Effectiveness of lucid dreaming techniques on lucid dreaming frequency

      INVESTIGATORS
      We are a group of researchers studying lucid dreaming, when you are awake within your dream. The research is supervised by Dr Lauren Potter. The investigator is Connor Courtney.

      INTRODUCTION
      The study builds upon previous research, primarily research conducted by Aspy, Delfabbro, Proeve & Mohr, (2017) and LaBerge & Rheingold, (2007) prominent researchers in the field of lucid dreaming.

      AIM OF STUDY
      To observe the effectiveness of lucid dreaming techniques on lucid dreaming frequency.

      PROCEDURE
      You may have been asked to:
      1) watch two videos containing subliminal messages;
      2) set an alarm and wake up 6 hours after going to bed; remain awake for 30-60 minutes before then going back to bed;
      OR
      3) repeat to yourself, before you go to sleep, “I will have a lucid dream tonight and remember it in the morning”.

      You would have also been asked to keep a diary where you record the number of lucid dreams you had along with whatever information you can remember about the dream. This was all to see the effectiveness of each technique on the number of lucid dreams you have had.

      FOR FURTHER INFORMATION
      Dr Lauren Potter will be glad to answer your questions about this study and provide additional information on results if requested. You may contact them at [email protected] or +44 (0)131 451 8439.

      I have a hard time falling asleep so I would not be willing to stay up for 30-60 mins after 6 hours. Good luck with your study!

      If it's not too late, I'll volunteer. PM me whenever. I've been interested in lucid dreaming for a long time. I'm familiar with techniques (though haven't practiced in about two years). I'm currently not working (awaiting back surgery) plenty of spare time on my hands next two months. Peace.
