Huh? Oh, heh, don't mind me...just sightseeing down memory lane... Having pleasant memories involving non-kosher foods is all right, isn't it?

I swear, I hadn't eaten the stuff even for weeks before I converted. I admit sometimes I lose myself in the greasy memories, though luckily, not in a situation that might tempt me to violate kashrut.

Nowadays, I find that lox gives me all the salty greasiness that bacon ever did...

I guess you could put lox on a potato -- although you couldn't put any cheese on it then (I think)...

When I was in Israel, they mixed fish with cheese all the time. Just not other meats with dairy.

I guess they weren't uber orthodox but what do I know

Well, there are the the "uber-orthodox" as well as the "secular" Jews in Israel. Where in Israel were you, anyway? And when was this?

      lol Kula!

Ramu, I was in Tel Aviv summer of 1996 for a gig. They provided a complimentary breakfast buffet at the hotel, and I remember there being all this smoked white fish and sliced bread with sliced cheese. And all the locals were making little open faced sandwiches out of them. And I remember thinking, how odd, they're mixing meat and dairy. And someone told me that fish wasn't really included in that, reason being: they keep dairy and MAMMAL meat separate due to the whole "don't eat an animal that was boiled in it's mother's milk" kind of thinking. So then I said, "What about poultry? Chickens don't breastfeed their young, but you're not allowed to mix them with dairy." "Well, uhhhhhhhhh..............."

Ok I'm going to shut up before I go on another religious rant.....

That's cool Ophelia, I went to Israel to visit what family I have left there in Nazareth. I think I was like 12, but it was really cool. Sorry to go off topic but:

I remember being excited to go and visit Jenin (the city that I was named after) but my dad said it wasn't safe there. I guess he was right.

One of the most notorious and controversial events of current conflict between Israel and the *Palestinians was the April, 2002 Israeli invasion of Jenin Refugee Camp.* For weeks, *the Israeli army assaulted the camp with helicopters, tanks, bulldozers, and troops.* *Almost immediately, reports began to trickle out of Jenin about massive human *rights *violations occurring in the camp.

The Jenin Inquiry consists of a team of *international human rights volunteers who began investigating the Israeli actions in Jenin *even before the army withdrew from the camp.* Members of the group remained in the *camp for weeks and months documenting personal testimonies and eye witness accounts of the *atrocities committed by the Israeli army against the residents of Jenin Refugee Camp. So sad that a city that was so famous for selling its fruits and vegetables, a city that I was named after, is completely destroyed.

So sorry to hear that! That's awful, the kind of violence that goes on...sometimes it's just such senseless killing, really!

I still disagree with nightowl and paperdoll.

I recognize your opinions and see that they are valid.

But I am building a rebel army of senseless banterers. Our name is "the skjdfgisudfw874e47rt army".

No seriously, I think that if posts like mine became the norm, then it would degrade the senseless banter page, but once in a while, youve gotta have some actual senseless banter. But alas, you guys are admins/mods, not I (even though my member join date places me decently up there in terms of oldest).

Too many things make sense, and there is not enough bantering going on here. You people are a disgrace

So often a sensible thread gets derailed into nonsense -- so go figure a completely sensless thread eventually becomes a relatively sensible one.
