When Does Art Become Porn?

I was recently punished for having "Explicit Pictures" on my iPod. My argument was it was surreal art. Yes, it did depict naked people, but it was art! There was no explict positions or anything I cvoncidered graphic, but please tell me When Does Art Become Porn?

My psychology professor defines porn as something that is degrading toward a person, like a lot of porn out there is degrading toward women. It's different from "erotica," where everyone is on equal terms. Can you describe exactly what the pictures were on your ipod? Maybe you could make a case that it was erotica and not porn, in which case they can't really have a problem with it. If they do, you could point out that they need to get their definitions straight first.

Well a mod deleted it (Oneironaut, and I thought you appreciated the fine arts). Long story short, the picture is by Salvador Dali. It is called untitled(erotic scene with seven figures) if you'd like to look for it yourself.

I don't believe that even Icedawg or Seeker would have let that picture stand, so made the call to delete it. They were barely even ok with artistic nudity. That one was a bit over the top.

it would have to be the intent if this picture was made to intentionally be porn, then its porn problem is, not all artists are willing to admit that yes they intended to sexually arose the viewer - thus porn but theres lots of nudes in surreal, and I don't think its porn. its explicit though, theres a slight difference. explicit art can be inappropriate depending on the situation, or perfectly appropriate

Wow. Well now we know that even the most talented people have their shit moments. Edit: Oh goodness, who on earth would start to appreciate THAT picture just because it was Dali? Oh and I don't think "porn" means "that which is arousing." I was specifically taught by professors that porn means something that is sexually demeaning toward a human being. Not that they are automatically right, but that definition makes more sense. I should go search other definitions to see if they correlate.
