again, everyone knows the damned word, but being constantly exposed to it causes one to pick it up as a word one uses. that's how it works. i'm actually really surprised at you: i thought you'd know about conditioning. conditioning is very simple psychology, and exactly why your parents or teachers don't use those words around you; it's not that they're so naive that they think you don't know them. us resident adults have every right to decide what is, and is not, acceptable on the forum.
btw, thanks for showing some solidarity with management man.
haha, funny how that actually proves itself to be quite counterproductive seeming as how the fact that the words are deemed to be forbidden, makes them so much more attractive to those young people out there. It is not the word itself that is so interesting to them, but the cencorship and taboo surrounding it that entices these young people to use them and therefore validate themselves. Lets face it, they know the words, they've seen the same people that forbid them to use the words do so themselves(do what I say not what I do), and they know they are not supposed to use them, then what good does it do to place even more false restrain on them when it will just make them fixate on them even more?

I say if we really want to censor them then we should just ban the whole word, rather than just placing these nice little stars on them that are only good for multiplication and password encryption purposes

Truthbearer just said what I was about to..heh.

The more a kid hears that 'fuck' is bad, the more they'll want to do it, just like he says. Perhaps you haven't had to witness this, but, seriously, it's true.

I'm young enough to have witnessed this myself; kids just like to say it anyway, like, all, "HAHA .... PS: FUCK". It doesn't matter if they hear it here; they'll hear it anyway and want to do it. It doesnt matter that their parents aren't naive enough to think they don't know it but perhaps naive enough to think they won't use it..the kid will still do it.

      Take a look there.

It has nothing to do with the topic; it's just funny.

so you're cool with f***. it's still exposure isn't it? i really don't think replacing some letters with asterisks is all that much more respectful. as we've clearly established, they can figure out what it means. if there is a 13 year old out there that actually doesn't then well, i think it's safe to assume that they aren't allowed on the internet, or are and the page will be blocked, or don't even have the internet because they are amish. so, if a 13 year old comes in and sees f***, they'd know the word and see it in their mind, it wouldn't be any different than typing f*ck or typing out the whole word.

Ignorant bliss is an oxymoron; but so is miserable truth.

i kinda agree with the last few responses...it's just like drinking laws here in the states...they don't have problems with kids going and getting retarded all the time in countries where there are no drinking laws because like the rest have stated when you take something and shroud it in mystery by making it taboo/illegal you only spark people's interest in it even more...yeah the D.A.R.E. program works wonders for kids...whoa you say this makes me hallucinate?? Oh no...I better never do that (thinks to themself how much fun it really sounds...)

Anyway this whole topic is starting to make everyone..."tense" so let's loosen up a bit eh?

EDIT: Oh yeah...I agree with Fetish...rape is bad...

      Use some Tact

Just as you buy a CD that has parental discretion or they bleep out the bad words. The listener knows what they are saying but the message is that it is not advocated.
By rendering the word withasterisks it shows some discretion.
And not that most care but it reflects on your personality as well.

The fact is that we have a lot of young viewers. If it is freely used then it seems cosure to use it.

Well I do agree that it's the ASSOCIATION to the F word that is the problem. IE. if I say 'the F word', it brings the full word to your mind. On the other hand, it's not AS graphic.
But I guess I should simply not say it at all.

PS: the amusing part is - what constitutes a 'swear word' ? If I say 'pineapple' with contempt, is it a 'bad word' ? Is it simply because the F word denotes an activity that we feel uncomfortable with talking to children about? Just me thinking aloud...

you guys could discuss it all day and night. until something more pointless came along.

      EG

Nirvanastarseed: I left a dirty tissue on the floor yesterday.

Leo Volont: what? You discust me indeed, you deserve if anything to atleast be given a good beating for your lazy attitude. if one was impure enough to do such a thing, which you obviously are, it is indeed a reflection of one of two things. Perhaps ones circumstances made it not possible or one and one lacked time or didn't notice, which in such a case. one could be somewhat forgiven depending on ones situation. If it was not cleaned up over a period of time however, This is no excuse. I am insulted you are even at DV. We deserve some respect, if only some of the time.

Icedawg. Since it has nothing to do with DV. The tissue does not concern me all that much. ofcourse its not something you should do everyday. I would suggest if you notice that you do leave one of the floor that is is picked up obviously. It does not effect the running of DV in this case.

      seeker
I agree with icedawg. A tissue should be picked up if it is left behind.

      hysteria.
YOUR FACE IS A DIRTY TISSUE.

      ROLF. LOL ahahahahahaha.
thats F*** halarious. That has made my day.

      Kaniaz
Comon, thats just totally unfunny. like it will make a whole lot of difference because someone left a tissue on the floor. Everyone at the age of 5 knows they have at some point left a tissue around somewhere its not exackly uncommon.

      haz
      you left a tissue?
      why?

      Rakkantekimusouka
like kaniaz said ts not uncommon, but like seeker said you should pick it up
either way its not right I might add.

      placebo
I agree with a mixture of everyone.

Nirvanastarseed: I picked the tissue up. Now everyone shut up

I know I just made a totally fictional conversation up.That is even more sad.
A quick attempt to imitate someone is always fun. Even if it's myself.

Sorry guys, I've got to side with Ice on this issue. Constant use of the EFF word does lead to desensitivation or however you spell it. It is inflamitory and does tend to set people off. In my opinion, constant use of the EFF reduces your credibility. I mean come on, even though the EFF word is highly versitile, there are so many more intelligent words out there you could be using to get your point across.

I've been know to use the EFF word, but sparingly. It is not a part of my day to day vocabulary.

I am sure that my kids use the EFF word when I am not around, however, they bloody well know that they are not allowed to use it around me or in my presence.

All that begin said, I fully support your constitutional right to use the EFF word, but do tire of seeing it.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Good point, however, why are so many folks thinking so binary? No one said \"Ban the word \"fuck\"!

And remember, while yes, anyone knows that by forbidding something, you make it more appealing. Well, does that make condoning said \"thing\" any better? Again, try balance, discretion, moderation...all signs of maturity.

I'm young enough to have witnessed this myself; kids just like to say it anyway, like, all, \"HAHA .... PS: FUCK\". It doesn't matter if they hear it here; they'll hear it anyway and want to do it. It's those parents' responsibility to instill a sense of discretion in their children. It's really a shame that so many of you have to become adopted by a forum to gain some sense of discipline and standards for behavior where your parents have failed you. But it's not the forum's responsibility to raise you. At some point, you all have to learn balance in life. And preferably not at the expence of others who are trying to enjoy a free forum.
