Although I've never experienced it, I'm familiar with that conditon (I usually call it hyponatremia). I'm a biker, and when I go on long rides, I have to be sure to drink plenty of electrolytes, because I can drink a lot of water.

If you must feed your addiction, drink some gatorade. Sports drinks prevent hyponatremia 'cause of all the salt and other electrolytes in them.

there was a story on the news, cant remember if it was local or national, but there was this guy taking part in a hazing ritual-if i remember correctly-and he was made to drink a full vessel of water, you know those big containers that you place upside down on those water fountains that they have in many workplaces? it was one of those. and he died, too. they said that he basically drowned to death on a cellular level. it sounded pretty horrendous.

Yeah, I heard a story a while back about a girl who tried a drug (cant remember which one) that made you thirsty, and she drank so much that the water was channeled to her brain which expanded and eventually killed her.

So I was on a ski lift this one time with this random guy, right? So it turns out he's a track coach and an old marathon runner so we get talking about running, right? Anyway he was talking to me about this girl that he knew who he happened to be running a marathon with this one time. So she drinks a lot of water and she's acting funny. Of course, when you're running a marathon you go through all kinds of delirium so he didn't think much of it. Suddenly, she collapses. I guess she was so fucked up on water and on running that she didn't realise how much she had been drinking. Think of the last time when you were too fucked up already and someone keeps handing you beers, well it was exactly like that except with water, and a thousand or so more opportunities to grab one. So she just keeps drinking all that free water and she becomes hyponotremic and is running no longer in a marathon but some kind of water/fatigue trip. Anyway she got rushed to the hospital and almost died, but she was alright.

edit: oh and patrick, sounds like something ecstasy would do. People I see on that are always drinking 5-gallon jugs of water, I always wonder how they avoid hypotension.
