I went to a used game store (It wasn't one of those major game stores like Electronics Boutique, but it was pretty great nonetheless) and bought the red Game Boy cartridge we all know as Pokemon Red, along with a Game Link Cable (because none of my friends had any :/). I was pretty excited, to say the least. I didn't bring my Game Boy Advance SP with me, so I had to wait until I arrived at home to play. So I'm in the car for 15 minutes, and when I finally reached my destination, I immediately took off my seat belts, opened the car door, and sprung out of the car. I dashed as fast as I could to the door and opened it. I plugged Pokemon Red into my GBASP, and turned it on. It said 'Game Boy' on the top, but a black bar was at the bottom! Clearly I must not have put it in deep enough, so I turned the Game Boy off, pushed at the cartridge until I heard a click, and turned it on again. This time it was a go.

I turned my full attention at Pokemon Red. The frenzy of buying and playing a new game was shooting through my body, kinda like when you strike your funny bone and your hand tickles. I managed to defeat Brock by using Charmander (it was pretty rough; I had to rely on Growl). I also managed to catch a Pikachu in the Viridian Forest, which I considered pretty lucky. I was heading for Route 4, when my mother yelled from downstairs, "Dinner time!" So I saved the game, and went downstairs for dinner. I had rice: it wasn't too special, but I didn't mind. All I could think about was Pokemon.

When I finally finished my supper, I walked up the stairs and into my room, trying to restrain my excitement. I turned on the Game Boy, expecting to defeat Misty by the end of today. I pressed start, anxiously expecting to continue the journey of STARMIE (yes, that's what I named my character), when my mind was trying to grasp upon a logical explanation as to why there were only two choices I could make, which were 'NEW GAME' and 'OPTIONS'. I was frightened, worried that my game cartridge was defective. I thought to myself, "Maybe I turned the Game Boy off when it said 'Now saving...'" so I started a New Game, brushing away the idea that my Pokemon Red was flawed. This time I chose Squirtle, and played until I arrived at Viridian Forest. I decided that I had to use the restroom, so I saved. However, this time I kept a close look on my screen to reaffirm myself that I sturned the GBASP off at the right moment, and headed for the bathroom door.

I returned from the bathroom, and decided to play some more Pokemon, maybe about 10 minutes more, I thought to myself. I turned it on, and this time I saw the option 'CONTINUE'. So I chose that option without hesitation, and I was controlling the body of STARMIE once more. I defeated a few trainers in the Forest, when suddenly a thought occurred to me to double-check that the last game deletion was just a coincidence. I restarted my Game Boy, and bam! I was back to square one. 'NEW GAME' or 'OPTIONS'. I once again made a new file, but this time, I didn't bother with the character names, and chose RED for myself, and BLUE for my rival. I saved as soon as I found myself in the room upstairs, and restarted Pokemon AGAIN. *sigh* 'NEW GAME' and 'OPTIONS' were the two options once more. This is probably the moment where I got ferociously livid and took my cartridge out and in, out and in, out and in. This didn't help at all, obviously.

Oh well, back to the used game store tomorrow.
