Monty Python's old. It was funny because it was often risque for its time and used very unconvential surreal ideas. First time I watched it, it was very funny. Rewatching something that's meant to shock and surprise confuses me sometimes.
The modern equivalent would have to be the Mighty Boosh.

British humour nowadays is probably far more irony-weighted. It's our more intelligent humour that I'd say defines our humour now. People like Ricky Gervais, Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr, Simon Amstell. Whatever.

I got all patriotic about our comedy then.

All of the comedians you mention are funny, with the exception of Jimmy Carr 90% of the time. The Mighty Boosh is good (I would obviously say that) but how is Monty Python being old a negative thing? It's still as ruddy funny as it has ever been.

Also where does that smiley come from? My first experience of him was on the very NSFW (and very funny) www.jj.am

No, Monty Python is still funny, but I think it is subject to ageing more so than other comedy might be. It lacks the edge of controversy it once had, and that we tend to be rewatching it now means the surrealist edge is also fairly lost.

It remains a classic, obviously.

You don't like 90% of Jimmy Carr? His delivery is perfection, and he has a clear love for humour and the technique of it that is nice to see.

Fuck it, I'm not even going to try staying on-topic now.

What is it with Americans and the word "British".

English.
Scottish.
Irish.

Three very different nationalities.

The problem is Americans tend to refer to the English as "British" and the Irish as Irish and Scottish as Scottish.

If you say British you mean all 3.

If somebody is from England, they are english.

I don't know how this came about but the americans always call the english the british. Why do you do this?

Oh and do you expect there is a British place other than Britain?!

Trust me you ain't the first person to this on here and you certainly won't be the last. Just let the baby have their bottle and ignore being classed as British.

Besides we all know America and Canada are the same things too!

*is not British, is English*

Officially deemed?

The names of the countries aren't?

Actually, we are British. And English.

It's wrong to refer to an English person as British and a Welsh person as Welsh. Either you use the name of the kingdom, or the name of the nation.

I think it was a demonstration of how much of a useless twit Carousoul was/is, and why I am entirely confused as to how anyone would want to protest his ban.

England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Channel Islands.

But as AlexD says, English people are usually labelled as British. I think it's because 90% of UK citizens live in England so...
