Stupid teen puts his Xbox 360 power supply in a...

A North Carolina teenager who decided the best way to cool his Xbox's overheating power supply was to stick it in a bowl of water was knocked unconcious by the resulting electric shock and earned himself a trip to hospital with "minor burns to his right hand and foot".

According to local news reports, the 14-year-old Brevard youth was having a spot of bother with his console which would shut down every five minutes. His mum told the press he "thought the problem was likely linked to overheating" and duly "tried to fix it on his own based on tips he found online".

This apparently involved wrapping the offending power supply in plastic and tape and dunking it in said bowl "while it was still plugged in". His mother explained: "When I left to go next door he was playing a game but when I got back he was laying on his back on the floor and unconscious."

The young man was subsequently detained overnight at the local Transylvania Community Hospital.
      This guy deserves a lol.

      Heres another dumb one:

And finally, a round of applause for the Brazilian who "tried to disassemble a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) by driving back and forth over it with a car". The citation continues: "This technique was ineffective, so he escalated to pounding the RPG with a sledgehammer. The second try worked - in a sense. The explosion proved fatal to one man, six cars, and the repair shop wherein the efforts took place."

Sorry but there's nothing funny about the 14 year old kid, especially since he was following instructions found online. That's just extremely worrying, as I'm sure there is a plethora of misinformation online, and probably alot that could be harmful.

The second one...I gotta just shake my head at. But it's nothing to laugh about when people die.

I'm not laughing at the death but at the absurdity of these things. Of course it's funny. Imagine that crazy dude going back and forth over a freaking rocket, that's hilarious - it could be straight from a movie. It's not worrying that the internet says to dump a power supply in water, it's worrying that someone would be dumb enough to do it. People should learn that you shouldn't play engineer if you don't know what the hell you're doing. Especially if you have a fartbrain anyway. That's why there's customer support, to protect you from your own stupidity.

This is the type of philosophy that has parents restricting their kids from ever going on the internet. It's not the internet's fault at all, that kid was just a goddamn dumbass.

Yeah, seriously you are stupid if you put a friggen power supply of ANYTHING let alone a 360 in a bowl of water.

And Aquanina, I didn't try to make it sound like I thought it was funny that he died, I think it is funny the kid got electrocuted by the power supply but I wouldn't have if he had died. He deserves a shock for doing that. I didn't say I think the RPG one is funny, it's just dumb.

      EDIT: Why not, Mark?

I'll have to agree. Since he wasn't seriously injured I think he actaully got a good lesson in the art of common sense. Something that seems to go unpracticed lately.

The dude running over the grenade though... I will admit I laughed pretty good after reading that, for good reason. Though i'm not some heartless bastard, I can't believe he decided hitting it with a sledgehammer would be a good idea, no humor there, just the sad truth of how ignorant (stupid, insane, many other words fit there as well) some people are.

It would be the philosophy that has parents restricting their kids from the types of sites they go to. I would imagine that that kid wanted to see if he could do it himself (experimentation) and figured that if he wrapped it up well enough in plastic that it could work. The theory is sound, but "theory" doesn't always work for a 14 year-old.

I bet if he'd asked his mom or dad what to do in that situation (which theoretically could have taken less time than going online), "wrap in plastic; put in water" would not have been on the list of things they'd suggest.

$10 says that kid's back on the 360 next week (or the week after he left the hospital) with a brand new power supply.

I dunno about you, but one of the first things I ever learned was electricity + water = bad. Yes, this has to do with good parenting, but restricting the internet is not good parenting. For one, how would they be able to specifically restrict sites like that (there is no "restrict all retarded sites" filter) without restricting a ton of more very helpful things. The good parenting here is about giving their son some common fucking sense. Lack of education is not solved by keeping their kid from going on the internet. If a kid doesn't know not to put plugged in appliances in a bucket of water by age 14, restricting the internet is not going to help him from being retarded. Obviously his parents did something wrong (or probably didn't do anything at all).

if he'd been told this verbally
would he be banned from socialising with people....

      anyway,
goes to show you how crappy their trip circuit is
any electrical short should be nipped in the bud by a decent, working electrical trip

I didn't mean "restrict" internet sites, but rather have an idea of what their kids are doing. You don't have play watchdog, but just see what they're doing from time to time (such as not talking with men twice your age and agreeing to meet up with them... unless you're 48, which in that case it's a fairly safe bed that they're not going to jump you, but who knows?).

It could have just been a bad case of stupid. Who knows?
