this is a very hard choice...i use all my senses, a lot!.........i think...that i would probably have to choose being deaf.i can lip read and usually do so in a normal conversation anyways(people find it annoying when i look at their mouth when they speak for some reason...) also if i was deaf i could still remember what things sounded like.i could still feel the rhythm and vibration of most noises so i would be able to know how loud things were by the vibration they made.and i know how loud i speak so speaking normally wouldn't be a problem.it would still suck horribly though.

Hands down I'd rather be deaf.

Agreed I would rather be deaf than blind.

At least if I'm deaf I can see where I'm going and still have most of my major independence...however if I'm blind it would be much harder.

I think the best sense to lose would be smell. However in this choice it would have to be death! Although it would be horrible lose hearing some sounds but then again it would be good as you could see where you're going and still live a good quality of life or, well, better quality than a blind person.
Look very closley at that post... I really hope the choice wouldn't have to be death.

      hehe.

Again, I'm visually impaired...gonna be blind.

Any being blind isn't a big deal once you've coped.

And with the right adaptations it's possible for a blind person to be as independent as a sighted person

You just have to learn Braille

I'd rather be deaf, yeah it would suck not being able to listen to music, but I could just read the lyrics. Plus you could learn sign language so you could still talk to people. Plus I love to read & I just wouldn't be myself if I wasn't able to. you could also write notes to people if they don't know sign language.

Yeah you wouldn't be able to listen to music or anything, but if you were blind then you can't see what's going on during sex AND you can't read AND you can't witness the beauty of the world AND you wouldn't have to listen to people's endless whining.

      That was uncalled for.

I'm sorry, one thing I can't do is of course, drive. But, I don't feel sad about that.

      I've COPED.

I wasn't saying you should be sad about it...I was just pointing out that blind people aren't as independent as a sighted person.

yeah... i'm on the deaf side, as most people would be. I mean... you can't hear: no more music, harder to communicate with people, have to learn sign language or lip reading, can't hear someone when they're calling for you
can't see: much less independence, can't drive, I'd never get to see the world, which has always been a lifelong dream, can't participate in most sports, would have to learn to read braile which seems like it would be harder than sign language, I would feel claustrophobic all the time, it would get disorienting; imagine waking up and not knowing where you are until someone told you, I'd never get to see what my kids look like or would look like as they got older, it would be hard to go out and do things alone... seriously it would be so much harder to be blind.

Im suprised how many people chose deaf, i would much rather be blind. Music would just be too much of a loss, there are easy ways to make up for transportation besides driving, and movies and video games i wouldnt miss that much.

      You can still enjoy movies.

You just have to listen to a person talk about the movie.

I'd rather be deaf. No contest.

I love both art and music. It would be more horrible than I could imagine, to not be able to hear again...

...But to not be able to see again...see anything...No artistic works. No natural phenomena. None of my loved ones' faces. No graphic novels. No anime. No CGI. No epic, SFX blockbuster movies. I could never draw again. I could never play ball again. No more fireworks. No more mountain biking. No motorcycles. No martial arts. No museums. No sunsets.

      No thanks.

Stab my eardrums out with an icepick, plz. K thnx.

In a different culture, maybe blind. But in todays, (I can't think of an example in which this sin't the case, actually,) I would go deaf. We are so sight oriented. So I'll keep my eyes, mmkay?

it seems like most you guys are basing your choice off of entertainment - music/movies/video games. I just think about what my life would be like... and there are a lot less things I could do being blind than being deaf. You would be so much more dependent on other people if you lost your sight than if you lost your hearing. But then again, i guess some people are more free spirited than others...
