That isn't the longest word you know. That's the longest word you know OF.

Anyway, I believe O'nus knows of one...or somebody like that.

[edit]By the way, this has been done before. Recently.

THAT SEARCH FUNCTION REALLY IS HELPFUL, TRY IT ONE DAY n_n[/edit]

      methylenedioxymethamphetamine (hehehe)

The longest one I knew up until now was "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis " and its a disease you get i think from breathing in fine volcanic dust. (yes, i unfortunately DO know this one by heart ). Character count: only 45 .

If you count it as a word. A lot of people don't because you can just keep hooking stuff on the end to make it longer and longer.

This is an ambiguous question. Do you count prefixes and suffixes? Chemical names?
Because I can easily beat CT's word...

      What about pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis?

At least that's a disease. Better than your stupid "aspartyaspartyasparty" chemical word that no one gives a shit about. Even this chemist sitting next to me is like, "No way, that's just stupid."

chemical compounds should not be counted because the criteria is words that you know... Not even chemists use the really long names in practice.

the longest word I know of is smiles. As far as length goes, there is a mile between the first and last letter.

yes but scrabble words do not include hyphens, underscores etc. so the scrabble dictionary does not contain ALL words

      Hehe..........oopths

It's more commonly known as "black lung" disease - miners would get it from breathing the silicone that was in said fine volcanic dust.
(had to contribute that so I wouldn't feel like SUCH a smacktard for stealing your word )
