I have night terrors occasionally - suddenly waking up from Slow Wave Sleep (not dream sleep) yet seeing things vividly in the bedroom right in front of me. It sparks terror which I can't explain and I often scream and jump out of bed. It takes 30-60 seconds to accept that the thing I saw wasn't real. |

Hmm, it seems to me like you are waking up and experiencing hypnopompic imagery/hallucinations. These are basically the same as hypnagogic hallucinations, but they occur upon waking from sleep as opposed to falling asleep. I'm not sure as why you are suddenly experiencing this now. I remember having this happen to me often as a child, but it rarely occurs now. Once you wake up, simply lay there with your eyes closed for a few moments until you feel you are fully awake and grounded in reality. Even if you hallucinate now, it will likely be basic stuff in the darkness of your eyes (better than actually moving around in your room). I am curious, how long does it take for these hallucinations to pass upon waking up? |

I've only once experienced something like this. I woke up in the middle of the night, and it was like a man (more like a black shape in the form of a man) was standing in front of my bed and I wanted to cower under my covers or close my eyes, but I couldn't move. After a while, I could move again and the shape was gone. It was really scary, so I'm glad that I've only had it once. Even though I knew it wasn't real, I was really shaken from it. |

I am also an arachnophobic. In all seriousness, I try my best to pretend that spiders are extinct. It sounds stupid but after a couple years of pretending this, my fear is now much more manageable. I have even cut back on looking in common "spider places" which makes me find them and freak out. I simply don't look for them and pretend they do not exist. |

I also have arachnophobia. But now it isnt AS bad. Heres what i did to make it better. I typed spider... on google images, then i closed my eyes and clicked enter. Then i slowly opened them, and looked at every spider pic there was. And then touched one of the pics and touched all of them ... |

For those who have a sleeping partner who is suffering from night terrors it is a wise decision to slip out of bed and into another bedroom following the initial stages of the condition take place. Legs and arms hitting out can be painful for the sleeper lying next to the dreamer. |
