      Too much sleep?

I know the average recomendation is 7-9 hours per night for most adults, but is there such a thing as too much sleep? What if you're out for 12 or 14 hours?

And how does sleep affect dream recall. I've noticed that if I sleep for an extended period, my recall is iffy.

I only know about the recall part, and only my personal experience.

If I sleep too much I can have terrible recall, but not if I wake up when I normally do and tag my dreams. Then If I go back to sleep for an hour or two I normally have 1 really really long dream that is very vivid. Very good for LDs for me, and it gives me an extra dream per night.

I hear about "tagging" dreams a lot in the forums but I don't know why it is. If I may ask, what is tagging a dream and how would I do it? Are there any benefits?

I think I've attempted sleeping for 17/18 hours. 12 to 14 hours is actually no big deal to me and I can accomplish it easily if the house isn't too noisy. I like it that every time I go back to sleep after the 7th hour onwards, I get really nice, long and vivid dreams. Such that it is easier for me to attempt lucid dreaming if I have longer sleeping hours too because you'll tend to wake up for brief moments if you have slept too long and those are unintentionally WBTB which helps me to identify that I am sleeping and dreaming.

You know you're having too much sleep when you wake up feeling tired instead of refreshed although you had lots of sleep. And when it comes to the extreme, you'll realise you're no longer able to sleep. You just can't get back into sleep any more. 18 hours of sleep at once is probably the maximum for me and my mind will be very awake after that.

You need a notebook and a pen. Instead of writing down the whole dream you write down keywords. I don't use my actual DJ because I do it in the dark. Lately I have found it better to just get up and write the whole thing down though. It keeps me more aware through the night.

Check out the dream recall compendium in dream signs and recall. Can't link since I am on my phone. hope this helps.

You should try and wake up as much as possible. Haha.
