I've been getting really sick of the length of time it takes me to sleep (30 minutes to 4 hours). My younger brother and sister can fall asleep in 5 minutes, but it takes me 30 minutes to 4 hours to fall asleep even though I'm only getting a measly 6.5-3 hours of sleep a night. Added onto that, I'm a super light sleeper, EVERYTHING wakes me up. When my brother rolls over in his sleep in the room next to me, even the slight noise that gets through the wall can wake me up. I have learned to live with this, since it's not to hard to fall asleep if I'm woken up before getting 5 hours of sleep, because the problem is getting to sleep at night. Well, last night I decided to use Brain Wave Generator to create a preset to drop from 15 Hz to 3 Hz in 10 minutes, to see if I can drop my brainwaves low enough to allow me to sleep. I put it on my iPod, set the sleep timer so my iPod will shut off when it's finished playing. I have no problem falling asleep with headphones. (at least the ones I use). I'll be posting my results here.

Went to bed at 11:10, fell asleep at 11:30
I went to bed 50 minutes earlier than usual, not because I was tired, but because I wanted to get more sleep than usual. I went to bed, waited 5 minutes for the sleep timer to drop from 15 minutes to 10 minutes. I played it, and lied down. The slowly dropping frequencies sort of felt calming, although it might just be the placebo affect. I just let my mind wander like normal (since that's the way I fall asleep) although my random thoughts focussed more on the sound I was hearing. After what definetly seemed like forever, the noise shut off. I was already in the deep state of thought that comes before sleep, and I quickly got back into it. I fell asleep 10 minutes later.
Result: GREAT!

Went to bed at 11:30, fell asleep at 11:45
This time I went to bad 30 minutes earlier, since I was as tired as I would be at 12 AM. I went to bed, and played the tones again. By the end, I was very deep in random thoughts and my eyes were heavy. 5 minutes after the tones stopped, I was asleep.
Result: EXCELENT!

Went to bed at 11:30, fell asleep at 11:42

I went to bed the same time again, but after the preset played I was suprisingly awake. Somehow I fell asleep 2 minutes after the preset ended!

Went to bed at 12:30, fell asleep at 12:42

I went to bed later because it was Friday (actually Saturday when I went to bed since it was past midnight). I almost fell asleep during the preset hehe.

You can try staying up late one night, then you'll be tired the next, I get 8.5-9 hours eachnight, atleast I plan to, about 7.5-8 now, you should use a fan to drowned out the sound around you, my mom always watches t.v. right down stairs from my room, and it works for me, oh and when you get more sleep you'll find you have less axiety, keep testing BWgen I might use it someday if i could find a good mp3 player the 10min (fall asleep) track takes up about half the space on it .

That's pretty cool, but yeah, I think that you need to get to the root. If you have high anxiety then try meditation or something to relax more during life. Also, can you post the file on the internet. My problem isn't as bad as you, but it does take me 15 mins to 1.5 hours to fall asleep, with an average of 30-40 mins, which is still too much for me.

Well I'm a very stressed out person. I tend to worry about everything, even things that aren't my problem or have absoloutely nothing to do with me. On another note, I usually forget the important things like tests because I'm thinking about other things to worry about that are pointless.....

But I don't see why it affects me at sleep. When I jump into my covers I am as relaxed as can be, nothing can take me out of the bed. I think about random thoughts, not worries. I just can't seem to slip into sleep..... Plus I like BW Gen

And I don't know how to meditate.

I know what you're saying, but sometimes you can be stressed out during the day, and even though you feel relaxed and don't think stressed out thoughts, it takes a long time to wind down and truly relax both physically and mentally, not just mentally.

Also, I can PM you some instructions from STsung on how to meditate which look great (though I haven't gotten around to trying it).

Sorry, Follower, I can't help you; I don't know anything about meditating.

I had the same problem when I was a wee little gaffer, I didn't get to sleep till after 12 when I would get in bed at about 9 (this was a problem up until... I was 14 maybe? 16 now)

Anyhow it can be because of eating habits, maybe you don't have enough iron in your blood.

On a side note I was an extremely light sleeper aswell, my sleeping seems to be alot deeper now, harder to wake me up. And thats the truth brother.
