A technique to help you sleep

Ok my mom told me this:

When you are in bed look up, then close your eyes so that while your eyes are closed they are still looking up. And leave them like that. (Looking up produces serotonin, or some other chemical, I forgot what she said).

Then count from 100 down to 1 while imagining yourself descending down a flight of stairs.

Do this for 10 days. After 10 days only count from 50 down to 1. Repeat this 10 days. Then when those 10 days pass, count only from 25 down to 1.

The goal here is that eventually you program yourself to fall asleep after counting down from 10. It takes 40 days in all.

By the way I tried this last night (the night before I had trouble falling asleep). I kept my eyes up (which felt a little uncomfortable since I wasn't used to it, but then i adjusted). After I counted 100 down to 1 I felt relaxed. After a few miutes I turned to my side (with my eyes still up). And then I fell asleep after a short while.

Woho! i tried tried this a couple of times now, and it just failed twice. When it failed i was to awake to sleep at all, not even sleeping pills would make me tired then.
it's like when i come to 30 i use to forget the counting and some other thoughts get into my head and a short time after i'm asleep.

I am so gonna try it! If it works out would be really cool - 10 seconds to fell asleep sounds pretty cool.

Methods for getting to sleep always seem to be like this. I feel ashamed I didn't try something like this sooner though, I've had trouble getting to sleep my whole life .

When you say "look up" do you mean, roll your eyes up and "look up" into your head? Or do you mean to look in the direction of the cieling?

This sounds nice. Gonna give it a shot. (or 40 shots)

I find that my almost obsessive attempts at WILDing is causing sleep problems for me It takes me atleast 2-3 hours to fall asleep each night because, even if I dont intend to try WILD, I do it anyway.

As in, when I try to fall asleep i'm just lying still and keeping my mind relatively clear and BAM! There's that uncomfortable feeling of SP and stuff kicking in, making me wake up.

Anyway I decided to stop WILDing alltogether for a while and just sleep.. Just bloody sleep hopefully this method will help

Serotonin is converted in to melatonin when "sun"-light stop stimulating your retina.. And more meatonin is released.

Serotonin is also that which makes people trip on MDA/MDMA, so just so you know!

If you can't sleep in 40 days you may as well give up

I used to and sometimes still do something along those lines. Except it's more about focusing my eyes. I notice that when I close my eyes, they tend to try and focus on near-distance giving a cross-eyed type of feeling. So I open them again, briefly, and focus on whatever I can see across the room (sometimes isn't a lot) and close them, trying to keep them relaxed. Eventually the eye-tension starts again etc etc etc. After a few cycles of that I'm asleep. Unless there's something keeping me awake

Gah! Me too. I usually just lay and wait awhile and I get this weird sensation, like my eyelids getting just a little bit heavier than before, and I try to imagine that sensation as a door far in the distance. I run towards to door in my mind, and I usually find that by the time I reach it, I'm asleep.

I've read of this exact same method as a WILD technique, except it didn't say to look up.

I am doing this in the past 7 days, but I am going polyphasic in 2-3 days, I will speed it a "little" and start to count only 50 from today, and 10 after 2 days. Its working pretty fine for now.. I think.

Looking up is probably a form of drishti or staring. It's said that drishti performed on the brow activates the subtle-wind vortex located in the head that's allegedly connected with the pineal gland and paranormal abilities such as clairvoyance. So I'm almost positive that the technique comes from yoga.

Someone please answer this mans questions I wanna know too. I'm gonna try this tonight. Does it matter if you don't fall asleep before you count down to 1 from 100? Lately I've had a bit of trouble falling asleep and find myself laying in bed for hours. The fact that it's summer isn't helping either. Anyway I'll try your method and if it ends up working I well be VERY grateful!

I am gonna try this .
Sometimes I take about 2 hours to fall asleep(...
That really sucks, those 2/3 Hours could be very useful while LDing...

That sounds interesting, but what if you don't fall asleep in 100 seconds?
