      Yet another Everyman Schedule

      Hello together.

Since I heard about the Everyman Schedule, I've been fascinated by it. I have a very intense semester at University coming up, so successfully establishing an Everyman-2 schedule would really help me. I am creating this thread mainly to record how I'm faring while trying to establish the schedule, but thoughts and any advice is very welcome.

First of all, any thoughts on if my planned schedule would work at all? It would look like so:

      Mondays: Core sleep: 1AM - 5:30AM. Nap 1: 4PM - 4:20PM. Nap 2: 7PM - 7:20PM.

Tuesdays: This is a tricky day. I have University literally all day from 8AM to 9PM. So... Core: 12PM - 4:30AM. Nap: 6AM - 6:20AM.

      Wednesdays - Fridays: Like Mondays.

      Saturdays and Sundays: Core: ~2AM - 6:30AM. Nap 1: 9AM - 9:20AM. Nap 2: 11:30 - 11:50AM.

Notes: I'm not sure about my regular core sleep. It is possible that I can shift it from around ~12PM - 4:30AM. I'm going to bed anywhere around 12PM - 1AM normally. Is it bad if I have a lot of variation there? Or is the one hour variation not that bad?

Also Tuesdays is very tricky. I can only manage to squeeze a single nap in. Would doing a longer nap (say 30 - 45 minutes) help? Alternatively I could do a second nap on the train back from University at ~09:09PM until 09:45PM.

Saturdays and Sundays my two naps are both in the morning / near noon. Is that bad? Should I have a regular time (say 3, 4 or 5 hours) between naps?

Any thoughts on that planned schedule are welcome.

So now for my first day, which is today. I will edit this post later today / tomorrow morning for results on my first core sleep.

      Day 1 (We, 04/07):

First some notes on my last days. Yesterday University started, and I didn't have a lot of sleep the night before. As far as I remember, I went to bed at around 2AM and needed to get up at 5:30AM (which I managed to do). I wasn't too exhausted that day (except for my second lecture from 10-12).
Yesterday, I went to bed at ~11:15PM but I was woken up at 12:40AM by my girlfriend. I went over to her place until around 2AM, went to sleep around 2:15 - 2:30AM. Since I was so tired, I skipped University today, got up at 9AM and studied at home. I was feeling pretty relaxed, but now in the late afternoon, I'm starting to feel the tiredness.

      Nap 1 (4:25PM - 4:45PM):
I lay in bed, but didn't manage to fall asleep. Might be because I had ambient music playing, which kind of distracted me (not used to sleeping with music). I will turn it off on my second nap. I did have a very short dream-like sequence (perhaps 1-2 minutes), where I saw an imagery of a videogame (STALKER for everyone who's interested) before my eyes, I didn't really sleep though. It is now 5:20PM and my second nap is planned for 7PM - 7:20PM. I'm having two cops of coffee right now, but since I've been drinking a lot of it regularly for around three years now, it shouldn't affect my second nap. I do actually feel refreshed by the "nap", although I didn't actually sleep.

      Nap 2 (7:00PM - 7:20PM):
Failure. I couldn't sleep again, and I don't feel refreshed at all, unlike the first nap. No drowzing off and seeing dream-images either. My legs and back hurt a little, but that's probably because I went running this morning (not used doing sports anymore). Before the nap I thought I could fall asleep because I was a little tired, but no. Perhaps I shouldn't have drunk the coffee. Anyway, I'll eat dinner now and go to bed around 12PM - 1AM and try to get 4.5 hours of sleep. I hope I won't oversleep since I have to take the train to work at 7AM tomorrow morning.

Small correction: It is now 7:50PM and I'm feeling pretty normal again. I should probably wait 30-60 minutes before noting down any results on naps/core sleep for a more rational view on it.

      Core sleep (12:30AM - 05:05AM):
I was expecting to be going to bed at around 11PM actually, so I was a little pissed I could only go to sleep at the time that I did. Anyway, I woke up naturally shortly before my alarm. In my sleepiness, I decided to deactivate it and sleep until 05:30AM. I forgot about my secondary alarm (my DS) though, so I woke up at 05:05 (My DS is placed on my desk, halfway across the room, so I have to walk over there and switch it off), since I decided I'd just stay awake now. Not really motivated to do anything with my additional thirty minutes (normally I wake up at 05:30), and I feel pretty tired, but not overly different from waking up early from monophasic sleep. We'll see how work goes today..

      Day 2 (Thu, 04/08):

Currently at work and I'm feeling surprisedly good, considering I only drank two cups of coffee until now. I actually kind of feel that the coffee makes me more tired than when I'm drinking none at all. My legs still hurt, but again that's probably because of the running yesterday.

Back home and I'm noticing I'm quite awake if I have stuff to do, but I'm getting tired quickly if there's nothing specifically I can do. Work was okay except for some phases where I just sat around, the train to and from work was okay too, I was playing the DS. Looking forward to my nap at 4 though.

3:50PM now, shortly before my second nap. I kind of doubt I will fall asleep, I'm feeling pretty awake. Gonna try the ambient music again, since it seemed to work a little better than having no sounds at all yesterday. After napping I'll do some Kanji-studying, hopefully I'll be a little refreshed then, I'm filling a little sluggish.

      Nap 1 (4:00PM - 4:20PM):
(Partial) success! It seems that I did manage to fall asleep at the end of my nap, since I noticed after waking up that I didn't hear the music any more. Also I think I've been having the beginning of a dream, and I've been seeing some images at the beginning of the nap. And I actually feel refreshed!
I will now learn some Kanji and play some videogames.

Note: The day feels somehow much longer, even though I only woke up half an hour earlier. AND took a 20 minute nap (next one coming up in half an hour). Strange.

      Nap 2 (6:55PM - 7:20PM):
Meh. I went five minutes earlier because I thought I could fall asleep easier then, but I only started seeing some dream images shortly before the alarm got me up again. Didn't sleep at all and I'm only feeling slightly better than before the nap. It's probably because I have been feeling pretty well all day, I don't know. I'm hoping I can get to bed early today.

      Core sleep (12PM - 04:35AM):
When my alarm went off, I was practically dead. It felt terrible and I had a hard time getting awake. But after my secondary alarm (I had to get up to my desk to turn it off), I actually feel pretty okay. Still a little tired and my legs and my back hurt, but it feels alright. My brain was kind of .. "out there" yesterday, as I needed exceptionally long to take a pill out of its packaging o_o Don't know if it's related to my sleep though. Anyway I thought it might be good to add a little "counter" to keep track of how much time I gained in comparison to a normal day:

      Time gained: ~1hour

I'm doing a little coding for an outside-University project to put that little extra-time to use.

Also I'm interested in how today goes, since I'll be with my girlfriend starting around noon. I don't know if I'll be able to hold my second nap and was thinking to hold the first one on the train on my way back (1:28PM - 2:15PM).

Oh and another thing: I'm trying to reduce my caffeeine intake to one cup at the morning at home and maybe 2 or three at work.

      Day 3 (Fr, 04/09):

It's now 8:40AM, and the morning went pretty good. Had only one coffee until now and I only feel a little sluggish, but mostly really relaxed and not too tired. My body is still a little overused (I'm REALLY not used to doing sports anymore) though. Anyways, on the train to work I closed my eyes for the last ten minutes or so and nearly fell asleep, even started to see some images. Felt really good afterwards though.

      Nap 1 (2:09PM - 2:40PM):
More like a relax-period than a nap, I closed my eyes during the train back home. I did completely miss a stop though (luckily not mine ), so it seems I was asleep for a while. I'm feeling really refreshed, too. I'm feeling like on a normal day, even though I got up at 4:35AM, that's awesome

      Nap 2 (7:00PM - 7:20PM):
Got woken up one minute early actually by the telephone. But it was a really great nap, I was half-asleep the whole time and had some dreams, something about a cell phone that turned into a monster Feeling really refreshed now!

Tonight, my girlfriend's gonna sleep at my place so I'm not sure I can stick to only sleeping 4.5 hours. I'll probably just fall asleep sometime and then get up when I wake up.

So, it's now 11:40PM, I'll head to bed soon and set my alarm for 9:00AM. I'm kinda hoping I'll wake up naturally earlier though, even though I feel really tired (we watched The Godfather I ). Anyways, it wouldn't be too bad to have a night with a little more sleep since I'll need to head to the woods tomorrow to cut some trees.

      Core sleep (12AM - 10PM):
Okay, had a normal night of sleep. I hope that doesn't set me back too much, I'm taking no naps today and I'm trying to go for 4.5 hours of core sleep tonight.

      Time gained: None

      Day 4 (Sa, 04/10):

As I said, I didn't take any naps. I felt pretty tired when I went to bed.

      Core sleep (2:10AM - 6:45AM):
I set my cellphone alarm to 6:40, but it was so comfortable and I was still tired so that I waited for my secondary alarm on 6:45 on purpose. Feeling okay, I actually planned to drink some coffee, but it feels like I won't even need it.

Starting tomorrow, I'm also planning to put some use to my gained time and start studying for my new courses this semester.

      Time gained: ~3 hours

very interesting. I wanted to try the everyman sleep schedule because of the added time into your day it gives you. But on the days when I don't get any sleep or get 4 hours of sleep, I feel horrible the whole day, mentally and physically. I feel sad, my stomach and back usually hurts, and my head is just in a fog.

I would like to try it one day though, but for now I like my 8-9 hours of sleep a night. Good luck with continuing the schedule! keep us updated!

Maybe you should start by a week of doing Everyman-1, then your phase of getting used to it won't be that hard? I found that I wasn't too tired the first few days now, but maybe that's because I'm used to getting only 5-7 hours of sleep a night on weekdays (although I prefer more like 8-12 hours on weekends and holidays )

      Day 5 (Su, 04/11):
I'm not feeling sleepy at all, so I didn't take any naps yet. Perhaps I'll try to take one at 7PM, but I don't know.

      Nap (6:35PM - 7PM):
I was pretty tired after dinner, so I took a nap. I obviously fell asleep, but I didn't notice it. No dreams or anything, but the 25 minutes seemed to be over in the blink of an eye. I'm feeling really awake again now, so it's all good :3

When that happens to me(not in a nap, a whole night of sleep), i feel really tired throughout the day.
I hope the everyman's schedule works for you

I haven't had that with a full night of sleep in a long, long time, but I remember that I loved it when that happened when I was a child. The night was over in a matter of seconds and I was just as relaxed as if I had slept normally.

I'm going to bed now, I'm sleeping a little longer though, since I have a slight headache and feel pretty worn out and I plan to study for my courses tomorrow. See you in the morning

      Day 6 (Mo, 04/12):

      Core sleep (~1:30AM - 6:35AM):
... ugh. I haven't felt this tired on waking up in a long time. I'm drinking some coffee now to get me going, but I don't feel relaxed at all. I'll probably take a nap right after I've organized what I have to do for University today.

      Time gained: ~3 hours

Okay, after taking my time waking up, drinking coffee and reading news on the net, I've been learning for three hours now. Time for a little nap.

      Nap 1 (11:20AM - 12:00AM):
I extended my nap a little since I couldn't fall asleep and was pretty tired. I did sleep from ~11:40 to 12 and I feel really good now.

I went to the tennis court with my father from 4:30PM - 7:30PM to get it up in shape for summer matches. So I couldn't take a 2nd nap obviously, and when we returned I did feel exhausted, but not really tired, so I skipped it.

      Day 7 (Tu, 04/13):

      Core sleep (12:10PM - 6AM):
I'm feeling like any other morning. Probably because it pretty much is one. I'm excited to see how I fare today, since I have University from 8AM - 9PM, and no possibilities to take a nap inbetween.

Note: My sleep-cycle seems to resemble a bi-phasic sleep more than Everyman-2. Meh. I'll try to fix that in the next week, since I felt pretty good on the days I could take 2 naps and sleep ~4.5 hours.

      Time gained: None

      Hello friends

I continued my everyman sleep schedule for a couple more days, but I have to admit, I definitely cheated a little bit, especially with my 5-6 hour core sleep session last night. Oh well, as I read online, you can gradually adapt to this schedule, unlike the Uberman schedule which is all or nothing. The reason for this is that the core sleep in the everyman schedule is what keeps you sane and out of the zombie state, which adapting to the uberman schedule causes.

      Thanks for all friends
      Have a nice day
