Thread: What the hell is going on?

Okay, I've been having some problems with my monitor.
At first, it was only when I tried to play a game called Team Fortress 2.
My monitor would go black and I would get the message "VGA: No Signal" like it says when the monitor is already on and I start up the computer, until the computer starts to boot.
Then it started to happen more frequently, when I was just surfing the web, or sometimes even just if I was sitting at the desktop.
Sometimes if I wiggled the video cord it would bring the picture back. Sometimes I could unplug and replug the video cable. Sometimes I had to restart the computer multiple times before I got my picture back. Sometimes, if I could bring up Windows 7's crtl+alt+del menu, I could get my picture back.

The other day my dad noticed that I had recently, by accident, plugged my video cable into the slot that connects to the onboard video card, instead of the newer video card I installed. I switched the video cable to the other video card input, and it seemed like the problem was fixed.

However, last night I got the message "VGA: No Signal" again. We unplugged the cord again and plugged it back in and it worked for the rest of the night.

This morning I tried playing a little Team Fortress 2, when I got "No Signal" again. I tried to quit the game (hard to do when you can't see it) and hit crtl+alt+del to try to bring up the menu. I tried it a few times, but couldn't get my picture back. So I shut down the computer and started it back up again.

But it didn't start back up. Instead I hear "beeeeeeep....beeeeeeep....beeeeeeeep" and then I shut it down again.


Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

Well, I don't know what happened but now the computer starts up without beeping at me, but the monitor still isn't working properly.
I'm still getting "VGA: No Signal".

I get the feeling that the cord or the card is busted.

It's the only thing that makes sense.

Could it be overheating?
My friend took my computer apart and saw that the video card's fan was not working, at it was hot to the touch.

The video card's fan wasn't working? Yeah, that's definitely the problem. Those fans are there for a reason; Video cards get HOT when they're working.

I don't recommend completely replacing the video card. Get a new cooling system. Most cooling systems you can get on Newegg are generally better than the stock ones that come with a pre-built computer anyways.

Seriously, video cards should never be operating without a cooling system of some kind. Bad mojo, there.
