      Router troubles!

      Hey all,

I have an extremely odd problem with my current router and I'm not quite sure exactly what's wrong! I'm no networking expert so maybe someone in here could help ^^

My router model is a Netopia 3347 with wireless support (that is both cable and wireless options).

My problem is that even though I can connect to the internet no problem, I can't connect to the router in any way (to access the admin panel). I've pretty much tried everything I can think of so far. I started by checking out the support page on the netopia website which mentions that the default gateway address to the admin panel is 192.168.1.254. The problem is that when I check out my own configuration under CMD -> ipconfig /all, it says that my default gateway is 192.168.1.1, I don't know exactly what that's supposed to mean in terms of devices it's connected to (The above IP is also the IP of the DHCP Server), but no matter what of the IP's I've tried, there's just no way I can connect to it.

It should also be mentioned that I'm trying to access it by cable, and that the cable is hooked up directly from my PC to the router.

I've also tried restarting the router, switching my ethernet cable to new ports in the router (for whatever reason, I'm becoming desperate here) to no avail!

So I've pretty much hit rock bottom here, and there's no way up! So I figured I'd try here to see if anyone haves any idea on the matter.

Did you try to connect to the 192.168.1.1 address? That is usually what it is for many home routers, including mine.

There is--though I do not know how there is or why there is--a sense of infinite peace and protection in the glittering hosts of heaven. There it must be, I think, in the vast and eternal laws of matter, and not in the daily cares and sins and troubles of men, that whatever is more than animal within us must find its solace and its hope. I hope, or I could not live.

Ok, A) how are you trying to connect to it? Cause your suppose to do it through your browser. Only put "192.168.1.254" into your URL bar. B) Can your connect to the net through the wired connection? It might be you have a static IP set.

As a last ditch attempt, you can reset the router back to default, and go from there.

Of course ^^ My initial step was trying the default gateway address, as that's generally supposed to be the one.

      Yep, obviously

I've tried resetting the router once before... but it seems like I'll might have to do one last attempt before calling support... (lol).

Thanks for the replies though ^^

Alright, seems like I found out what the problem might be... apparently the model of router I have is used as part of a business solution (It's a router we use through internet provided by the company my mom is currently working for). Apparently you're not even allowed to edit any settings through it, and if you'd really like to, I have to call up the ISP and pay for them to open ports O_O And lemme tell you it's fucking expensive aswell. So I'm gonna look into a possible solution of simply getting my own router and hook that one up instead...

TDC... I found the exact same problem on a danish hardware forum, and one of the members basically said that the Netopia 3347-02 model isn't supposed to grant you access to those kind of features as it's part of a company package kinda deal, which is exactly what my mom got. Ontop of that it's supposed to be a cheap ass shit model (sorry for the language ). I tried to switch out the routers, and basically I could connect and get into the admin panel, but it wouldn't connect to the DNS. Maybe I just needed to alter some settings but I'd have no idea where to start...

Getting a package from TDC where you have a router with full control isn't terribly expensive. I think you should talk to your mom about changing your internet plan. You don't need to make any convincing arguments, just check out the actual prices and show them to her.

hah, yeah that would indeed be the best way to go Unfortunately I'm not quite sure whenever or not she'll be willing to change too much, as it's provided by her company for now. I actually don't know whenever or not you're able to individually upgrade your packages from there on... but it would indeed be the best way to go. It really, really sucks not having control of anything when I start experimenting with network coding... (well without being able to open any ports myself, that's definitely not going to happen) oh yeah and obviously the occasional Minecraft server, hawhaw

OR, simply just change our internet plan myself and pay for it, not like it's all that expensive anyways.

I'd think one of the biggest reasons your mom wouldn't want to do it, is because it sounds like a lot of work. If you can convince her you can do most of the "work" and she just needs to sign things and speak to a few people, then maybe you can work something out. Suggar coat it as much as you can

hehe, I could totally try and do that But before I do I want to take a quick look at some other possible solutions... my dad might have some tricks up his sleeve aswell, he knows a whole lot more about this kind of stuff than I do. If it fails, I'm gonna convince my mom that I'll do aaalll the very hard work
