      USB reinstalling drivers/not registering

This has been going on for just about the last few weeks, I have no idea what caused it. Basically when I plug something into either of my USB ports, it makes the "da-duh" sound it's supposed to usually, then it says "installing device driver software" even if it's something I've used a million times in both ports before. Occasionally nothing happens at all, but it usually just reinstalls the drivers.

Not being able to sync my phone is driving me nuts, and I can't even do the stupid wifi sync because itunes can't detect my USB cable. Help please?

      -Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
-I have not added any hardware recently, the most recent thing was installing a new laptop screen maybe 5 months ago and I put everything back together great and it's been working fine
-Most recent software I can think of is my Bamboo tablet and Photoshop
-There might have been an update, and I wouldn't put it past those asses at Microsoft to screw up Win 7 so I'll buy their shitty Win 8 (Ha no.)

That's all I can think of.

Plug in your device and go to device manager, tell me what it says under Universal Serial Bus.

Also does the device still work after it reinstalls?

This is what I would do initially.

Start button > Accessories Folder > Right click mouse on 'Command Prompt' and select 'Run as administrator'

At the command prompt I would type CD.. plus enter key repeatedly until it reads C:\>

      Eg.

      C:\Users\Me>CD..
      C:\Users>CD..
      C:\>

      Then I would type -

      C:\>SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
      C:\>DEVMGMT.EXE

Device manager will now open as I have asked it to. From the 'View' menu I would select 'Show Hidden Devices' and then start to carefully delete the massive amount of repeatedly installed removable device drivers that your machine has been installing and hope that this would solve the issue.

If that failed I would physically test the USB ports by running a Windows PE environment from a CD such as Mini Xp found on Hiren's Boot CD.

If that worked I would then know that it is definitely an issue with Win 7 and start searching forums for why the drivers might be repeatedly installing themselves.
