If the DNS servers provided by your ISP are failing at times, you might try using some publicly available servers. This site also provides some assistance on how to set these up in your computer or router.

Some good ones that I often use, grouped in pairs:

8.8.8.8 (Google primary)
8.8.4.4 (Google secondary)

209.244.0.3 (Level3 primary)
209.244.0.4 (Level3 secondary)

4.2.2.1 (Verizon/Level3 primary)
4.2.2.2 (Verizon/Level3 secondary)
