      Basic video editor

I find myself wanting to do some basic video editing (cut/copy/paste for the most part) of movies from my phone and digital camera, but have no software for it. Does anyone know some decent freeware?

Both phone and camera have some onboard software for cropping, but I'd rather do it on my computer rather than continually move things back and forth, and of course I can't edit multiple vids together.

Windows Movie Maker comes with Windows, I think, and it works quite well as a simple editor. I use it for my juggling videos, it's very easy to trim, arrange, and add music to things. There are also some useful effects like slowdown, speedup, etc.

I don't believe that windows movie maker will encode in H.264.

Quicktime does those simple editing things very nicely. All drag and drop. It's what I used for most of my videos.

I don't know what that means. I think this is part of the reason it's the right program for me

      Thanks guys

Quicktime's free viewer doesn't include the editing functions, but Windows Moviemaker should do the trick. I figured I had something on my machine already that would suffice, it just hadn't come up yet

I would still be interested in any open-source recommendations.

H.264 is the best video codec out there, it makes the videos smaller and have better quality. All the big players in video (except for Microsoft) use it (Apple for both their store and editing software, Pixar, Youtube, Redtube, Flash...)

Is flash free? You can always do the editing in Windows Movie Maker and save it at high quality then convert it to a better codec to make it smaller.
